Chapter 01

Author: Lilia
Alexander always believed that by giving me the title of Luna, he had guaranteed Mia and me a life of endless comfort within the pack.

I float beside him now, and I wonder what his face will look like when he finally learns we’ve been dead all along.

The private jet touches down at a Manhattan airport.

Alexander, whom I haven’t seen in three years, strides down the ramp.

The ever-pitiful Vivian follows, clutching Oliver, a cub whose wolf scent is terrifyingly faint.

"Alexander, Oliver desperately needs the life essence. Where did Valentina take Mia?" Vivian's voice is a carefully constructed tremble.

His Beta, Marcus, bows his head. "Alpha, the Luna and Young Mistress have vanished without a trace for the past three years. We've exhausted our entire network and found nothing."

Alexander’s brow furrows, and the oppressive weight of his Alpha aura bears down on everyone present.

"Still playing childish games? Running away? It seems the last lesson I taught her wasn't enough."

"Valentina must still hate me." Vivian's tears fall right on cue. "She would rather watch Oliver die in agony than help me. Do I have to die before she'll finally forgive me?"

Hearing that, it takes everything I have not to materialize just so I can slap her.

She was the one who had us killed, and now she dares accuse me of holding a grudge?

Alexander wraps a protective arm around Vivian's shoulders, his tone softening. "Don't say that. I will find Valentina and drag her back. We'll take as much life essence as we need. I promise you."

On the way to the pack infirmary, Alexander reaches for me through the mate bond, sending a mental command.

Before I died, the Moon Goddess took pity on me, and I laid a curse on Alexander to make him feel the pain that I had suffered.

As a result, the Goddess herself blocked his ability to sense my death.

I watched coldly as he sent his commands through our mate bond, receiving only silence. This, I thought, was just the beginning of the curse.

"Three years, and your nerve has grown? You dare to disobey me?"

"Mia is my daughter. It is my right to see her. I suggest you hand her over willingly. Don't force my hand. Have you forgotten your last lesson so quickly?"

My soul shudders. The last lesson? That nightmare from three years ago?

I gaze at the familiar infirmary and the memory consumes me. Three years ago, when Oliver's Bloodline Decay first manifested, he needed a life essence transfer—a forbidden ritual—to survive.

The pack physician's tests showed my compatibility at eighty-five percent. Mia's was ninety-eight.

I knelt before Alexander then, sobbing. "Take my life essence, please! Mia is only five, her wolf spirit is still forming. She can't survive a ritual like this!"

But Alexander just stared at me coldly and uttered the words that will haunt me for eternity:

"Oliver is the heir. His life is not negotiable."

To ensure Oliver's survival, he ordered the pack warriors to seize Mia.

I threw myself at them, snarling and clawing, but the hulking warriors easily subdued me.

Vivian knelt before me then, tears streaming down her perfect face. "Mia is only giving up half of her life essence, but she’s saving my son’s life! I know you hate me, Luna. Hit me, curse me, I’ll take it. But please, don't take your anger out on an innocent child."

Before I could even scream, Alexander's hand cracked across my face, sending me sprawling to the floor.

"As his sister, it is Mia's duty to save her brother. You have no right to interfere."

That time, they took so much of Mia's life essence that she became as frail as a porcelain doll.

But Alexander wasn't satisfied.

To punish me for my defiance, he personally performed the forbidden rite, draining Mia’s life essence to the breaking point.

"I'm doing this so you understand the pain Vivian feels as a mother," he’d said, his voice devoid of all emotion. "As Luna, you are forbidden from ever being so selfish again."

Afterward, he took Vivian and a recovering Oliver to New Zealand. They were gone for three years, never once returning to our territory.

A bitter, soundless laugh escapes me now as I hear Alexander say:

"That woman holds a grudge like no other. Finding her is going to be a real pain. It's a shame Oliver has to suffer so much more because of her pettiness."

My spirit hovers in the infirmary, the sheer absurdity of it all washing over me.

They search for me with all their might, never knowing I am right here.

For the next three days, the screams of Vivian and her mother echoed relentlessly from the back alley. But Alexander's revenge was far from over.On the fourth day, he walked into Oliver's room in the infirmary. The child he had once cherished as his own was groaning in pain on the bed."Cease all treatment," Alexander ordered the pack physician."But Alpha, Oliver's condition will deteriorate...""I said stop." Alexander turned to leave. "Let him rot."Oliver opened his weak eyes and looked at Alexander. "Daddy... save me...""I'm not your daddy," Alexander said without looking back. "You're just a bastard."A week later, Oliver died in agony.Alexander had his body dragged to the back alley and burned in front of Vivian."Do you see that?" he said to the woman who was now barely recognizable. "That's what happens to your son.""I will grind his bones to dust so that he may never find peace."Vivian's sobs were heart-wrenching, but Alexander remained unmoved. At the same time, he bega

"Don't go to the Elders!" Zoe and Vivian shouted in unison.Their shared panic exposed everything.Vivian immediately dropped to her knees before Alexander, tears instantly welling in her eyes. "Alexander, I know you're angry, but please, for the sake of our years together, don't do this to us.""I admit my mother may have done some... extreme things, but she was only doing it for me!" Vivian cried, a picture of sorrow. "She couldn't stand to see me get hurt, so she...""Extreme things?" Alexander laughed coldly. "Murdering my mate and my daughter... in your eyes, that's just 'extreme'?"Seeing that Vivian's tears were having no effect, Zoe switched tactics. She laughed maliciously. "Alexander, stop pretending to be so heartbroken. Weren't you happy the bitch was dead? Why play the good guy now?""If you hadn't said yourself that she should die, would we have even done anything?" Zoe grew more smug as she spoke. "She got what she deserved! An ungrateful bitch who didn't appreciate her

Seeing Alexander's rigid expression, my mind drifted back to the past.He wasn't always this cold. The first time our mate bond connected, he held me tight and whispered in my ear, "Valentina, you're a gift from the Moon Goddess."But then, Vivian and her mother moved into our territory.Alexander started calling me petty, saying I wasn't forgiving enough, that as Luna, I should take care of the other she-wolves and their cubs.Later, no matter what I said to him, he would reply with irritation, "Why are you always so much trouble?"The last time, when I knelt before him, crying and begging him not to hurt Mia, he said coldly, "You should be the one to die, not standing in my way."He just never thought I actually would. Now, Alexander stared at the images from the Moonstone, holding a report that Marcus had cautiously handed him. His face grew uglier by the second. Before the Moonstone went completely dark, it had also captured the moment Zoe arrived."See this? This is what happens t

Vivian sensed the shift in him."Alexander..." she choked out, letting go of his arm and taking a few steps back, clutching the ailing Oliver to her chest."I understand." Fat tears rolled down her cheeks. "You don't believe me anymore, do you?"Alexander looked at her, his expression unreadable. "Vivian, I don't...""No, you do." Vivian shook her head sadly. "Rebecca's words have made you doubt me. You think I'm the one who killed the Luna."She crouched in the corner with Oliver, the very picture of an abandoned, pitiful woman."If that's the case, I'll take Oliver and leave," her voice trembled. "I won't be a bother to you anymore."As she turned to leave, Alexander moved to block her path."Vivian, you've misunderstood." Alexander sighed, reaching out to gently stroke her cheek. "I believe you. Of course, I believe you.""Really?" Vivian looked up at him, her eyes shining with tears."Of course." Alexander pulled her into his arms. "You're right. Rebecca is unstable. We can't trust

Alexander froze, the Moonstone slipping from his hand."No... impossible..." He shook his head, his voice trembling. "She was my Luna. I gave her the highest honor in the pack. How could she..."Marcus kept his head bowed, not daring to meet Alexander's gaze. "Alpha, there is no question, the body is the Luna's. Though the Luna tattoo was carved away, the mate mark remains."Alexander collapsed to the floor, his face a deathly white.Vivian rushed to his side, clutching his arm."Alexander, don't be so distraught," she soothed, then her tone shifted. "Actually... what happened to her... she wasn't entirely blameless."Alexander looked up at her. "What do you mean?"Vivian bit her lip, feigning hesitation. "I heard... three years ago, because she was unhappy with you, Valentina started frequenting those sleazy clubs where low-life wolves gather...""What did you say?" Alexander’s brow furrowed."I don't want to speak ill of her, but..." Vivian's eyes filled with tears. "Why else would r

Alexander was silent for a dead, heavy moment, then he erupted in cold laughter."Dead?" He straightened up, looking down at my mother, who had collapsed in a heap on the floor."You think I'd fall for such a pathetic lie?" Alexander pulled a glowing Moonstone from his pocket. "Valentina is just trying to escape her responsibility, so she sent you, a madwoman, to put on a show."He held the Moonstone aloft. Through it, an Alpha could share his Luna's sight."Since she wants to play games, I'll let her watch the consequences of her defiance."He spoke to me through the mate bond, his voice a venomous whisper in my soul. "Valentina, I know you can see this. You have a choice. Show yourself and save your mother, or watch her die because of you."My mother lifted her head with a monumental effort. "You monster..."Alexander took a silver-laced whip from a hook on the wall. "Then let me show you what a real monster looks like."The silver whip cracked against my mother's back."Aaargh!" she
