Chapter 3

Autor: Maple Muse
That afternoon, a major issue erupted with one of the Vance Group’s partnership projects. The client furiously stormed into the office, demanding to see Silas.

Linda stood nearby with her arms crossed, openly enjoying the chaos. "Well, Jade, it sucks to be you. First day on the job and you already landed in the middle of a disaster."

Before I could respond, Silas walked out of his office. He didn’t even glance at me before speaking to Linda directly, "You handle it."

Linda froze for a second, but quickly recovered and strutted toward the conference room, looking smug again.

I heard Silas grumbling internally.

[Linda ruined this project because she was too desperate for quick results. She can clean up her own mess. Perfect chance for Jade to witness my ruthless leadership skills and fall head over heels for me.]

Standing behind him, staring at his back, I started calculating something else entirely.

Less than half an hour later, Linda came stumbling out of the conference room looking miserable, followed by a middle-aged man whose face was burning with rage.

Dominic Sosa marched straight up to Sila, yelling, "Is this your idea of professional sincerity, Mr. Vance? Sending an amateur to waste my time is an insult!"

Silas remained perfectly calm. "Mr. Sosa, please calm down. I promise that a proper resolution is coming."

Then his gaze landed on me. "Jade, take it from here."

Everyone looked at me like they were waiting for a train wreck. Linda, in particular, looked ready to tear me apart.

I took a deep breath and stepped forward to meet Silas's eyes.

[Go get them, sweetheart. Show them what you've got. Grandpa already filled me in on everything. You were the debate champion back in college. This little hurdle is nothing for someone with your skills.]

So he'd already investigated me thoroughly.

I entered the conference room to find Mr. Sosa still fuming. As soon as I took my seat, his frantic internal monologue echoed in my mind.

[Another one? The Vance Group has gone too far! My daughter's school admissions are already driving me insane, and now this business mess gets dumped on me too!]

Something clicked in my mind.

I smiled calmly and said, "Mr. Sosa, my name is Jade Sterling. I'm Mr. Vance's executive assistant. He sent me because he wants the fastest and most effective solution possible."

For the next hour, I never once mentioned the contract or compensation.

First, I sincerely apologized for the project's issues. Then I smoothly shifted the conversation toward his entrepreneurial journey, bringing up how he'd built his company from nothing. From there, I casually transitioned into discussing admissions policies at elite private schools, naturally connecting it to the concerns he was having about his daughter's education.

Those were all things I'd painstakingly researched in my previous life while building business connections.

Mr. Sosa's attitude gradually softened. What started as hostility slowly turned into openness, and eventually, he was venting his frustrations to me like an old friend. Once the atmosphere felt right, I finally slid a revised proposal across the table.

"Mr. Sosa, this is an updated plan we prepared overnight based on your company's current needs. If you look at this distribution channel here..."

He picked up the proposal, and the more he read, the brighter his eyes became. Finally, he slapped his thigh.

"Let's do it this way! Jade, you're seriously talented. Way better than that pretty but useless woman from earlier!"

After the contract was signed, I politely escorted him to the elevator.

When I returned, the entire office was silent. Linda stood frozen in place, her face pale as paper, staring at me like she wanted to devour me alive.

Without sparing her a glance, I walked straight into the CEO's office. Silas stood in front of the massive floor-to-ceiling windows with his back facing me.

[Amazing job! That is my wife for you! She made me look incredible today, and now the entire company recognizes her talent. Let's see who would even think of looking down on her now!]

He turned to face me.

"That was barely acceptable. If a blunder like this happens again, you're fired."

"Understood, Mr. Vance."

[Crap, was I too harsh again? What if she gets upset? I need to make it up to her somehow.]

After a brief pause, he pulled out a black card from his drawer and tossed it onto the desk. "A new restaurant opened downstairs. Go try it out and write me a report."

I picked up the card.

[That's my supplementary card with no limit. I hope she uses it for whatever she desires. She should buy everything—honestly, every single thing.]

Suppressing a smile, I replied, "Got it, Silas."

When I deliberately addressed him by name, his body visibly stiffened.

[She said my name! She actually called me Silas! God, it sounded so good. Is she hinting at something? Are we moving into the next stage of our relationship already?]

Watching him maintain that cold, composed exterior while his inner thoughts were in complete chaos, the smile at the corners of my lips grew wider and wider.

'Silas, how much longer can you really keep up this icy CEO act?'

The next day, I placed the voice recording which clearly documented Lucas's blackmail right onto Silas's office desk."I can't let him get away with this."I looked at him, my gaze unwavering. "He didn’t just scam me. There must be other victims out there."Silas, I need your help. Not to pay him off, but to use your resources. I want to unearthed every single piece of evidence against him so he gets the punishment he deserves."Silas stared back at me, the sheer admiration and love in his eyes nearly melting me on the spot.[Jade's so brave and incredibly smart! She isn't begging for help, rather she’s inviting me to fight alongside her. That's my woman!]He gripped my hand tightly. "Leave it to me."Silas's efficiency was terrifyingly impressive. It took his team only half a day to follow the clues and dug up Lucas's criminal activities. He had used the same tactics to defraud multiple women over the years. With insurmountable evidence against him and multiple charges compou

The moment those words left my mouth, the entire world seemed to fall silent. The smug arrogance on Lucas's face froze completely, twisting into something almost absurd.Silas froze, too.The storm raging inside his head suddenly went still, leaving behind only one sentence repeating endlessly.[She likes me... She said she likes me... She actually said it herself... I'm not dreaming...]The overwhelming joy in his eyes was so intense it almost felt tangible.Lucas was the first to snap back to reality. Pointing wildly between Silas and me, he doubled over with hysterical laughter, practically doubled over."Fiance? You've completely lost it, Jade. You were so hung up on me that you actually tracked down a cheap imitation to take my place? Tell me, when you're in bed with him, do you still have to scream my name just to feel something?""Shut your mouth!" Silas roared. The fury in his voice felt hot enough to ignite the air itself. Finally snapping out of the shock, he yanked

For the next two days, I kept a calm expression on the surface while chaos raged inside me.Lucas, the nightmare that had destroyed my entire life. Now that I'd been given a second chance, I refused to let him drag me back into hell again.Ask Silas for money? No way. I couldn't do it.It wasn't just about pride. More importantly, this was my own personal demon, and I needed to destroy it with my own hands.Silas noticed everything.Rather than interrogating me, he focused on small gestures of care, bringing my favorite meals daily and searching for any way to lift my spirits.[She's barely touching her food again. What is going on? Why is she keeping this from me? Does she still feel like she can't trust me?]The worry in his inner voice only made my heart ache more, and it strengthened my resolve even further.'Silas, once I deal with this mess, I'll tell you everything.'Then, the third day, which was the deadline Lucas had set, finally came.He sent a text that afternoo

Ever since I agreed to give dating Silas a go, our relationship had progressed at lightning speed. At the office, he was still the same cold and expressionless CEO, but outside of work, he awkwardly engineered all kinds of ridiculous "coincidences".For example, his car would just happen to break down near my office right when I got off work, forcing me to give him a ride home.Or we'd randomly run into each other at the bookstore I frequented, followed by dinner together afterward.Meanwhile, the voice inside his head had evolved from nervous insecurity into nonstop praise.[Jade is seriously perfect. She can handle anything, and she somehow even makes eating tacos look elegant.][Jade is gorgeous when she's working. A career-driven woman is super attractive.]Little by little, I also got used to having him in my life. That day, Edward called again, urging us to come home for dinner. This time, however, Silas didn’t make excuses.[Finally, I can officially bring Jade home! Gr

The moment those words left my mouth, Silas completely froze.[W-What did I just hear? She said... she said we could try getting to know each other? Am I hallucinating? Is this a dream?]Inside his head, fireworks and celebration cannons were exploding so loudly they practically made my ears ring.Trying not to laugh, I pushed open the car door. "I'm home. Goodnight."Then I walked straight into the neighborhood without looking back.Behind me, I could still feel Silas's scorching gaze fixed on my back.[She agreed! She actually agreed! AHHHH! I need to go run laps! No, maybe I should jump into an ice bath and calm down!]Over the next few days, Silas remained in a state of extreme excitement. On the surface, he still looked like the same cold and detached CEO. However, every time I got close to him, the nonstop commentary inside his head became impossible to ignore.[Her hair smells like oranges today. It smells amazing.][She dropped her documents. Should I pick them up imm

When I woke up again, I found myself lying in an unfamiliar room. The lights were off. Only the cold moonlight streaming through the window illuminated the blurry figure sitting beside the bed.It was Silas. He sat on the carpet with his back against the bedframe, looking strangely lonely.[Why isn't she awake yet? The doctor said it was only emotional stress combined with low blood sugar, so why has she been unconscious this long? This is all my fault. I never should've let her meet Eve.]My head still hurt slightly as my memories slowly returned.Eve. The woman who claimed to be Silas's girlfriend.A strange irritation rose in my chest.I shifted slightly, and the bed let out a soft creak.Reacting instantly, Silas stood and hurried to my side, clicking on the bedside lamp. The warm glow revealed the heavy shadows under his eyes and a look of deep-seated anxiety he was unable to mask."Are you alright? Is anything hurting?" he inquired, his voice thick and raspy.[Thank goo
