Xavier’s POV Nobody moved for a few seconds after we finished talking about the plan. We had everything figured out as far as the Starfall crystal went, but there was still one problem we needed to solve before we could get anywhere near the infirmary. How were we getting in? Angela was sitting on my lap, her back resting against my chest. I kept one arm around her while my other hand rested over her thigh, my thumb moving slowly back and forth as I thought through our options. “We need somebody who can walk into the infirmary and make them believe they need help,” I said. Xavier’s POV I sat there for the longest time after the call ended, staring at the phone in my hand. Seconds turned into minutes. Minutes turned into hours. By the time I looked down again, Angela was awake. Xavier’s POV I stared at the phone. “My blood?” My mother’s breathing came through the speaker, but she didn’t answer right away. I looked down at Angela, then back at the phone. “What the fuck? What are you talking about? It has to be more than that.” A long, exhausted sigh came through the speaker. This time, she stayed quiet. I waited. Five seconds. I knew she was trying to explain something, but all I could think about was Angela lying against me with her curse getting worse by the hour. I was sitting against the headboard with her curled against my chest, one arm wrapped around her while my other hand rested against her back. The force of it sent me stumbling backward, but I barely had time to regain my balance before I saw Darius coming straight at me. His fist was already swinging. I moved as fast as I could.
