Luca regarded me carefully and had that knowing look in his eyes. “You care for her, don’t you?”

I looked towards my bedroom and nodded. Hopefully it would get to the point where I could confess how I truly felt to her, but I would never rush her or pressure her. Knowing that she had crushed on me too was reassuring.

“I do. It’s hard to explain. She’s special,” I admitted and helped carry the rest of his boxes into his room.

Having Luca and Kenzie here would make life interesting. I spent years going through the motions of my duties, but I did not always find pleasure in it. It was lonely. I got to meet and deal with a lot of people, but I did most things on my own. Now, I would have those two around me as well.

“Thanks for helping her. I had no idea all this time, or I wouldn’t have let them do that. They pushed her almost too far,” he said angrily.

I set the box down and looked at him carefully. Almost too far. I heard what they both said to their parents today, but his
