Chapter 1

Prologue, Twelve years ago...

A week after the tragic incident Mr Lucas woke from his coma. The moment he recalled what had happened that night, pain crushed his heart.

His wife- oh his dear Elsa was gone. He had lost her. He couldn't save her. The grief was unbearable and before he could process it all, darkness consumed him again, pulling him back into coma...

Two days later, his eyes slowly opened. As he looked around, he saw his son, Vincent, and his trusted nanny madam Mary, asleep beside him. He tried to clear his throat, his weak voice barely a whisper. Vincent stirred, raising his head the moment he saw his father awake, he burst into tears, throwing himself into his arms..

Madam Mary rushed to his bedside asking if he needed anything. Lucas gave them a weak smile before gently asking his son to step out for a moment. Vincent hesitated but obeyed, walking out of the room with a heavy heart. Once they were alone, Lucas turned to madam Mary, his expression grave. "Take care of my boy," he said...

Mary shook her head refusing to accept his words. "Sir please don't say that. You will be fine. You have to be strong for Vincent." But Lucas held her hand firmly, his eyes pleading " promise me Mary.

Look after my son. Guide him protect him and treat him like he were your own." Tears welled in her eyes, but she nodded " I promise." Lucas sighed in relief before continuing, " There's one more thing. My friend James... He risked his life to save me and Elsa.

I owe him everything. Please make sure my son marries his only daughter. It's the only way I can repay him as it is.. Ensure that he takes care of her and her family." Mary swallowed hard but nodded " I will see to it."

Vincent was brought back into the room Madam Mary had left to get them food. How are you. Dad? he asked, his voice trembling with fear. He didn't want to loose his father too.

His mother was already gone she had left him alone with his father. His father was all he had left. Lucas looked at his son, eyes filled with sorrow and urgency. " Promise me son," he said, his voice weak but firm . " promise me you will be strong for your mother, for yourself and for the company. It's your responsibility now."

Tears streamed down Vincent' s face. " Dad please don't talk like this, you can't leave me too please Dad." But Lucas continued, gripping his son's hand. " Promise me that you will take care of her, that you will marry her, love her, and never leave her side no matter what. I owe her father this. Please son promise me you would do this for me... Vincent was sobbing now.

Confused and broken. " Yes, Dad , I promise. promise. But, who is she? who are you talking about?"

Lucas opened his mouth, struggling to say the name. " You must marry Li--" The heart monitor let out a deafening beep . The line went flat...

Vincent froze . His father's hand went limp in his grip. He was gone too. And the name he had been about to say was left incomplete.

No no Dad you can't do this to me. Please don't do this to me.. He was a sobbing mess, he couldn't hold his tears as it kept falling...

From the corner of the room, Mr Gorge smirked. He had been eavesdropping the entire time. Greed flickered in his eyes..

Lucas had intended for Vincent to marry that girl, but Gorge saw an opportunity.. He would twist the truth. He would make sure Vincent believed the promise was meant for his daughter. And so the lie began....

Chapter 1
Chapter 1 Lisa’s POV “Hurry up, Lisa!” our head maid’s voice rang through the hallway. Dragging my tired self down the stairs, I sighed. I had just finished cleaning the last room—Master’s bedroom. In my rush to move on to my next task, I bumped straight into my best friend and fellow maid, Clara. She had that mischievous grin on her face again. Not this time, I groaned inwardly. Clara always found a way to get us into trouble. I opened my mouth to give her a piece of my mind, but Madam Mary, the head maid, stepped in before I could say a word. “Oh, come on, both of you! There’s no time to waste. The master will be here soon!” Picking up our cleaning supplies, we hurried off to complete our tasks. Speaking of the master… It’s been two years since I started working at the De Ford mansion, yet I’ve never met Mr. Ford. Still, I’ve heard plenty about him—thanks to Clara and the other maids. Not a single day passes without them singing praises about how handsome and attractive he i

Chapter 2 Lisa’s POV It was late evening, and all the maids were gathered in the living room for a quick briefing. Madam Mary’s instructions were sharp and swift—no room for mistakes. Afterward, we formed a neat line at the entrance to welcome the master. Everyone was tense. You could feel the nerves in the air. My palms were sweaty, and an excited flutter settled in the pit of my stomach. Clara, sensing my unease, gently squeezed my hand and gave me a warm smile. It calmed me instantly. In moments like this, I thank the heavens for blessing me with someone as precious as Clara. She knows me so well. I gave her a small smile back. Then, four sleek black cars pulled into the driveway. A few men in black suits stepped out first, opening the car doors with practiced ease. From one of the cars, a tall, handsome man emerged—he looked like he had just stepped off the cover of a fashion magazine. I was still admiring his looks when another figure stepped out from the next car. And th

Chapter 3Vincent’s POVThe clink of glass against marble echoed through the living room as I poured myself a drink, trying to drown the frustration boiling beneath the surface.“You’re really going?” Lilian’s voice pierced the air like a needle. “After all this time, now you suddenly care about that dusty old place?”I didn’t answer immediately. I took a slow sip and stared out the wide glass windows of our penthouse, the city lights flickering like distant stars. My silence only fueled her rage.“It’s been over two years since you even mentioned the De Ford mansion. And now, out of nowhere, you're packing up and heading there like it's some urgent matter? What changed?”I turned to face her, calm on the outside, but cold and closed off within. “It's time,” I said simply.“Time for what, Vincent? Time to run away from me? From this marriage? From reality?” she hissed, crossing her arms.I sighed. “Don’t twist this, Lilian. It’s been on my mind for a while. That mansion is the only pl

Chapter 4Vincent’s POVThe room hadn’t changed much. My old study still smelled faintly of leather and dust, like time had been waiting for me to return. I dropped my suitcase by the door and walked to the tall windows, watching the last light of day melt into the hills beyond. But I couldn’t focus on the view. Her face kept appearing in my mind—those wide eyes, the way her lips parted like she was caught in a secret she didn’t mean to share. That look… it wasn’t just curiosity. It was something else. Something that tugged at the part of me I thought was long dead.I hadn’t even heard her name. That irritated me more than it should have.Dinner was already being prepared. I wasn’t particularly hungry, but I went anyway—more out of routine than desire. The long dining table was filled with familiar staff. Some faces I remembered, others I didn’t care to know. They moved quickly, trained hands placing plates, pouring wine, keeping their eyes down as they served. But she wasn’t among th

Chapter 5Lisa’s POVMorning came too quickly.I barely slept a wink. Every time I closed my eyes, those piercing green ones filled my mind. Cold. Sharp. Beautiful. Why was I even thinking about him?I told myself it was just curiosity. The mystery. All the things I’d heard about him for two years… it was only natural to want to see for myself. But now that I had, I wished I hadn’t.Because now he was there. In my head. In my chest.Clara had already started teasing me at breakfast. “You looked like a deer caught in headlights yesterday,” she giggled between bites. “Don’t worry, Lisa, he stares at everyone like that.”I forced a laugh, but my heart wasn’t in it.What she didn’t know was that his gaze didn’t feel casual. It felt personal. Like he had seen me. Like he had looked through me.And that scared me more than anything.By the time I picked up the cleaning supplies and checked the room assignments, my stomach dropped. The master’s room. Of all rooms, it had to be his?I stood f

Chapter 6Lisa’s POVThere’s something about being seen that feels… dangerous. It’s been hours since I left the master’s room, but my heart hasn’t stopped beating like I just ran up five flights of stairs. The way his eyes followed me... it wasn’t just uncomfortable—it was unsettling. Not in a bad way, but not in a good one either. It was like he’d peeled back a layer of me I didn’t even know was showing. And now, everything felt off balance.I tried throwing myself into chores. Scrubbing, folding, dusting—anything to distract myself. But every time my hands were still, he came back to mind.Vincent Lucas Ford Jnr.The name alone sounded like something out of a historical novel. Regal. Distant. Powerful. And now that I’d seen him—really seen him—it all made sense. The air shifted when he entered a room. His presence swallowed space. Commanded it. Demanded it.And those eyes...No, no. I wasn’t going there again.I tied my apron tighter and made my way to the laundry room. Clara was al

Chapter 7Vincent’s POVThe night had been restless. The room felt too quiet, even with the hum of the house around me. The events of yesterday, the way her eyes locked with mine, lingered in the back of my mind. Lisa. She was nothing special in the grand scheme of things, just another maid. But there was something in the way she stood in my presence, the way she tried not to look at me, that made her stand out. I couldn’t shake the thought of her.The door creaked open, and she stepped inside, her eyes briefly meeting mine before looking away. She was holding a cleaning tray—broom, duster, and cloth, ready to do her job.I watched her as she set the cleaning supplies down, the way her hands moved carefully, trying not to disturb the silence between us. She didn’t look at me directly. In fact, she kept her focus on the floor as if it was the most important thing in the room.I couldn’t help but notice how graceful she was as she moved. Her long, dark hair fell in loose waves, a stark

Chapter8 Vincent's POV The knock on my study door was brief but confident.“Come in,” I said, straightening my posture.Nickolas Armstrong strolled in like he owned the place. Same old Nick—laid back, confident, annoyingly charming. He had that easy-going smile that made women feel safe.“Morning,” he said, taking the seat opposite me without waiting for an invitation. “You look like hell, Vincent.”I scoffed. “Good to see you too.”Nick’s smile faded slightly. “You haven’t called Lilian since you got here.”Of course, he would bring her up.“I was busy settling in,” I replied dryly. He raised a brow. “Too busy to call your wife?”I picked up my phone and tapped her contact. “I’m calling now. Satisfied?”The phone rang a few times before she picked up. Her voice came through with that usual bored undertone.“Vincent?”“Lilian. Just checking in. You didn’t call yesterday.”“That’s rich, coming from you,” she said with a dry laugh. “I figured you’d be too busy enjoying your precious m

**Chapter 9 **Lisa’s POV* I stood frozen in the hallway for a moment before I rushed out, my footsteps echoing softly against the floor as I made my way straight to my room—leaving the master standing there, watching. My chest rose and fell with shallow, uneven breaths. My back still tingled from where he had pressed me against the wall, and my lips felt oddly warm, as if his words had branded them.. *“Don’t run from me next time, Lisa.”* My name had never sounded like that before—low, intense, threaded with something dangerous I couldn’t quite name. It wasn’t a command. It wasn’t a threat. But it lingered like one. I pressed a hand to my chest, trying to quiet the erratic beating of my heart. What was happening to me? I was used to avoiding attention. Fading into the background. Doing my work, keeping my head down. But now… there was no pretending that the master didn’t see me. He saw me. And the way he looked at me… I couldn’t get it out of my head. That fire in his eyes. T
