They arrived at the Astor Hotel, its grand entrance guarded by two of Hades’s stern-looking men. The lobby was quiet.

Charon led them to a private lounge, where Christian was already waiting. This was Hades’s first time meeting Claudine’s brother.

He stood up as they approached. Christian was tall, even taller than Hades, with a build like a brick wall, all muscle and hard lines under his sharp suit. His dark eyes, so like Claudine’s, held a deep, knowing intensity that met Hades’s gaze without flinching.

His hair was thick and dark, a full mane that framed a strong, square jaw. He looked every bit as imposing and dangerous as Hades himself.

“Angel!” Claudine cried, rushing forward, her heart bursting.

Christian caught her in a tight hug, lifting her off her feet easily. “Mia! Dios mío, you’re really here! Are you okay? Really okay?” His voice was low, filled with strong feelings. He held her at arm’s length, looking at her face, his eyes full of worry.

The tracker machine kept beeping, a relentless, accusing sound in the quiet bedroom. Hades stood over Claudine’s sleeping form, the device in his trembling hand, its light shining on the small, sinister chip on the monitor.Mia. The one he’d been chasing for years. He fell in love with a spy. A proper damn spy. All these days, all this while she’d been acting sneaky, he had excused her. He wanted to trust her! They had a truce! A trust truce! A clean slate! He had believed in it.He had wanted it so badly. This was the woman who had left him for dead and stole from him years ago. Even though she had denied it countless times, he knew it was her. He knew it in his gut. And now, this. This damn chip. It confirmed everything. Every single lie.Well, he should have been focused on finding out what really happened years ago. Not trying to build a new idea of her. Damn! But he was falling. He was falling terribly for her. Is he even okay in the head!? He’s the King of the American Mafia, fo

It had been a week since Hades cleared his name off the Gregory’s humiliating series of rumours. A long, draining week. His wife, Claudine, had been acting strange, jumpy, fidgety, even more so than usual. He’d noticed it, of course. He noticed everything. He was the King, after all, and Kings saw all. He’d been watching her closely, noting her increased weariness, the subtle changes in her body, the way she sometimes clutched her stomach. He was a King, not a fool. He’d been investigating Claudine for months now, ever since she first showed up. He knew in his gut that she was Mia, the one from seven years ago, but she’d been refusing to admit it. Now, he needed proof. Hard proof. His empire was facing serious hiccups. The Vancouver name, usually a shield, was taking hits. The government had found two dead bodies on their family land in Detroit. Planted, he knew it. A clear frame-up. Investigations had begun on their properties there, a proper mess that was draining him mentally. It w

The next day, Claudine’s head was a storm of disbelief and despair. She hadn’t slept a wink. Dave’s words kept replaying in her mind, a cruel, mocking chorus. She needed to know for sure. This terrifying possibility, this joke the universe was playing, had to be confirmed. Or denied. She prayed for denied. She found Artemis in the main hall, her usual calm presence a small comfort. Claudine had put on the loosest clothes she could find, a big, flowing dress that hid her figure. She felt pale, sick to her stomach, and not just from nerves.“Artemis,” Claudine said, her voice strained, trying to sound casual, but her hand subtly pressed against her stomach. “I’m feeling a bit... under the weather, you know? A bit green around the gills. I need to pop over to a clinic. Or a hospital. Just a quick check-up. Nothing serious, just a bug that’s been bugging me something fierce. A real nuisance.” She wasn’t lying about feeling sick, not really. She felt sick with dread.Artemis looked at her,

The mansion was quiet, the kind of quiet that made your own thoughts sound like a proper racket in the night.Claudine lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, her mind a proper mess. It had been a month now. A whole month since well- coughs, coughs- acting like a normal couple. A month since she’d missed her period. Twice. This was the second time, a full two months now. It was playing on her mind something fierce, a constant, nagging worry. She was on birth control pills, wasn’t she? Always had been. Maybe this was the side effect many women never spoke off. But then, a memory, hazy like a dream, popped into her head. There was that week, maybe two, when she’d been a bit lazy, a bit too caught up in... well, in Hades.Their sex had been non-stop, a proper whirlwind, and she’d forgotten a few pills. Just a few. Could it really be possible? Could she actually be pregnant? The thought hit her like a punch to the gut. No. No way. This was a joke. The universe was having a right laugh at

He was good at mixing business with pleasure, and she found herself falling deeper into his world, despite all her warnings to herself.“This is quite the working vacation, Hadeson,” she said one evening, wrapped in his arms on their hotel balcony, looking out at the city lights. “You’re certainly good at mixing business with... pleasure. The city lights blurred as Hades’s car sped through the night. He was on his way back to the mansion, his mind reeling from the casino confrontation and the hot images Claudine had sent him. By the time he got back, the house was quiet, dark. He took the stairs 3 at a time, panting heavily and opened the door to find Claudine asleep in their bed, tangled in the sheets, her blonde curls in a silk bonnet resting on the pillow. She looked like an angel, completely innocent. He took a quick shower, letting the hot water wash away the casino’s chaos and the lingering tension from his fight with Gregory, that bastard knew how to get on his nerves.Hades finished and slipped into bed beside her, pulling her close to literally breath her in and bask in her warmth, it was a very cringe habit he had picked up on.She stirred, a soft moan escaping her lips, and snuggled into his side, her body warm and soft against his. He buried his face in her hair, inhaling her scent, feeling a strange sens
