I immediately went down on my knees.

“Good evening, Alpha Roman,” I greeted as thousands of questions ran through my mind.

Why was he here? What does he want? Wasn't he supposed to be at the temple, praying?

“Get up,” he commanded roughly, and I jerked to my feet, head bowed, awaiting further response.

“Take off your clothes and get on the bed,”

Tears sprang to my eyes immediately, but I knew I couldn't argue. With trembling hands, I took off my dress and lay on the bed, quivering.

I could barely suppress a sob as I watched him undo his belt through my wet lashes.

The bed grew heavy as he got on.

“On your knees, face on the pillows,”

Barely feeling anything, I turned around and knelt on the bed, burying my face on the pillow, my ass high in the air and towards him.

I felt a trickle of wetness from my bottom to my vagina and then a finger massaging me.

He was lubricating me.

My entire world shattered as I realised this had turned real, realer than I had thought.

But he wasn't supposed to be here, I wept, my tears wet against the pillow.

He wasn't supposed to be —

I let out a loud yell as I felt a brutal, painful shove inside of me.

I jerked underneath him and was met with a brutal slap on my behind.

“Stay still.”

****

He left immediately after, leaving me in a pool of my blood.

My entire body was sore, and my tears had long ceased flowing. I had exhausted them.

I just lay there rigidly, unable to move as I tried to shove what had just happened to the back of my mind.

But it refused to be shoved back. They kept popping out like a jack-in-the-box.

The tears came suddenly again, but I blinked them back.

This wasn't the time for tears. Tears wouldn't do a thing for me, wouldn't solve a thing.

If I didn't take action, this was how I would live my entire life — and it was only just beginning.

There was no way I was staying here. I couldn't.

I tried to lift myself off the bed but fell back down with a muffled sob. Everywhere ached.

The door opened quietly, and the maid from earlier entered again. She didn't say a word. She just made her way to me and slipped her arms around me, gently pulling me off the bed and propelling me towards the bathroom.

With her help, I hobbled into the bath, shedding tears as the hot water soothed away my pain temporarily.

This couldn't be my life. It can't be my life.

Something had to be done.

****

I slipped out of the room quietly, my shoes in my hands as I made my way down the stairs, ignoring the pain between my thighs.

The house was eerily silent, and I could almost hear my thoughts.

Earlier that day, I had looked around the environment of the mansion and found that there was a small gap I could squeeze through in the eastern part of the fence that was barely guarded.

Heads down, I walked quickly and as naturally as I could, barely breathing.

I slipped past the snoring guards by the door and made my way straight to the fence.

Goddess, please, goddess, please, I chanted in my thoughts. Please let this work out. I just want to go home. I just want to see my mom. I just wanted my former life back.

Not even daring to breathe, I reached the fence and squeezed myself through the gap.

I wasn't free yet. But as I took a step away from the fence, a voice rose from the bushes,

“Halt.”

I stood still, tears welling in my eyes, head bowed. I had missed my opportunity. But worse still, it means I had been caught.

From the corner of my eye, I watched as the person made their way towards me.

It was a guard.

“State your business. Where are you going at such an hour of the night?”

I kept mute.

At my silence, he drew his sword and pointed straight at my neck. “I asked you a question. Who are you and where are you going?”

At that, I raised my head and moved so that the tip of the sword could rest well against my skin. Tears gathering in my eyes, I said to him, “Kill me,”

When he saw my face, his eyes widened, and he dropped his sword and took a step back.

“The new breeder,” he noted, then said, “You're running,”

“Great detective work,” I said angrily, ignoring the fact that he had my life in his hands. But I was angry, at myself and him. This was an opportunity that would never come again.

I waited for his response.

“Why?”

“Why do you think?” I shot back angrily at him.

“We have girls who would actually die to be in your position.”

“Too bad he didn't pick one of those girls.”

“You want to run? When you've barely just gotten here?”

“And I've had enough, thank you. So why don't you kill me and get it over with?”

He ignored my words and continued, “You do know that if you run, you'll be tracked down and then killed. Not just you, but your family as well.”

“And that is why you should do the job now. I can't — I can't—” I stopped when my voice began to crack.

Breaking down in front of him wasn't going to fix anything.

“Go,”

I jerked back to reality at his voice.

“Go back into the mansion. I can't let you run. Sorry. That'll be my neck on the line as well. If you go back now, we'll pretend this never happened and no one else will know.”

For a split second, I debated running, but I knew it would be a futile effort. I couldn't outrun someone who had been trained for battles.

Without another word, I turned and went back inside.

I roamed the mansion until I found the kitchen. There, I took a knife.

If I couldn't leave the mansion, then I would leave this world.

  • Ex-Breeder's Return for Vengeance    Cloaked

SERENE'S POV As we slipped into the mansion, I clutched Ivar’s hand tightly, even though I knew it made no difference. No one could see us. His invisibility spell cloaked us both like a second skin. Still, my heart pounded like a war drum in my chest."Relax," Ivar whispered beside me, his voice nothing but a breath against my ear. "No one can see us."Relaxing seemed like a distant option, despite the fact that I knew I was safe with the edge his power gave us.I had found out about it the night we had dinner at the Alpha King's. When I'd asked him about how he knew what happened between Ianthe and I in the King's palace, he'd caved in at the end and admitted that he had the power of invisibility and he had been in the King's compound with us all along, watching as the meeting went on.A part of my plan formulated then and there, and now I needed that power. I wanted to see Daphne and speak with her. I couldn't leave her to rot here.“You okay?” Ivar asked, a low murmur. “I’m fin

“So?” asked Ivar as he saw me appear at the top of the stairs.I nodded. “He gave his go-ahead.”He raised an eyebrow from where he sat at the dining. “Really?”“Yes,” I responded, decending down the stairs slowly. My thoughts felt heavy—soaked in everything I was about to risk.“So what are your plans?”I wanted to reach Daphne first to discuss with her, and then the rest of my plans would unravel.I told him. “Are you going to bring her with you? This girl you talk about.”I shook my head. “No. I just want to talk to her first,” I would unravel the rest of my plans slowly when they were solid.“Is she your sister?”“No,” I replied, but she'd helped me like a sister would, and now was the time to pay her back.“Saw you running from the fields yesterday,” he suddenly said. “Saw something you weren't supposed to see, didn't you?”“How did you see me?”“From my window.”I paused, then added, “Do you know about the people who live after the fields?”He nodded. “Yes. I go there once in a

Agnar's PovI watched as she opened the door and slipped out, leaving room for Sebastian to come in.“Hello, Serene,” said that bastard as he took her hand and raised it to his mouth.A wisp of a smile touched her lips. “Hello, Sebastian.”“Had a nice night?”“Yes, I did. Thank you,” she said.I raised an eyebrow at the reply.I doubted if she indeed had a nice night — with seeing the NightMarchers yesterday evening and being consumed by her plans for Roman, I doubted if she'd had a nice night in a long while.Sebastian entered the room and shut the door close. His eyes swept over the desk and landed on Serene’s teacup.“Been playing the charming British host, I see.”“Just the charming host,” I corrected. “Nothing British about it, but I don't blame you. It's something you can't relate to as a Neantherdal.” I raised my cup to my lips and lowered it. “What do you want?” “Don't I at least get some tea?”Wordlessly, I took another teacup from the bar beside me and poured. I watched as

  • Ex-Breeder's Return for Vengeance    Ivar and his Help

SERENE'S POV I intercepted Ivar the next morning as he made his way down for breakfast.“I need your help.”He paused and looked me over slowly, an apple in one hand and the pirate-like earring in his right lobe catching the morning light. He took a bite of the apple before answering me. “Oh, yeah? What for?”I told him.A flicker of interest lit in his eyes, but he shrugged.“Can’t help you.”“Please.”“Go ask Agnar first and then come back and tell me what he says. Good luck.”With that, he walked off, leaving the sharp scent of apple trailing behind him.I turned towards Agnar’s room. I knocked once and was ushered in with a calm reply.I pushed the door open and entered.“Good morning, Serene,” he said as he saw me walk in.“Good morning,” I murmured, trying not to let the memory of his arms around me last night cloud my thoughts.I approached him at the desk where he was seated, shirtless as usual.“May I offer you some tea?” he gestured to the teapot beside an open journal on t

Serene’s POVMy legs moved on their own. I didn’t remember starting the walk, but there I was—heading home.Thoughts crashed in my mind like thunder, loud and relentless. Everything felt tight in my chest as I recalled what I’d seen: the marching, the glowing eyes, the unnatural stillness.I tried to shake the image away, but it clung to me like glue. What were they? Why did one of them look at me like that? And who was the man that saved me? Where had he come from? How did he know I was Agnar's mate?My breathing turned uneven.
