Brad’s POV

Nicole was so quiet, almost too quiet, like someone stuck replaying my words in her head. She looked away, shifting from me like she needed space just to breathe them in. The way she moved gave me the impression that the reality of what I had just said had finally hit her in full force.

“Thank you, Brad. But… I can’t possibly afford the rent to a place like this. I mean—” she hesitated, her voice low, almost guilty. “I can’t even pay half of here so you pay half.”

I almost laughed at how seriously she was taking this. “Whoa! Who said anything about the rent?” She was getting it wrong, and I had to set it straight before she shut me out completely. “I already paid for it, and honestly, I could afford to buy the whole place if I needed to. Look—” I leaned a little closer, softening my tone. “You know I’m new to the city, alright? I’m the star player, sure, but I’m also just… a guy. It gets lonely sometimes.”

Her lips parted like she wanted to argue but couldn’t find the words

  • Ex-Hockey Star Regret   Chapter 138 — Think about the devil…

Nicole's POV"Has Bianca been here today?" I asked Brad after he had just finished with the food I had brought for him when I came here to his hospital room.I watched him set the empty container aside, looking more satisfied than he had in days. The food seemed to help or maybe it was just the company. Either way, he looked better, stronger and more like himself. And so while I was with Brad, it had just struck my head that I hadn't set my eyes on Bianca after that incident that very day; I mean, a few days ago she came here with Leo.The thought had been nagging at me for a while now. Sitting in the back of my mind like an itch I couldn't scratch. And you, that was really strange. Bianca had been so persistent before, so present and always hovering around Brad lately like she owned him. Or let's say, like she had some kind of claim on him that nobody else could touch. And then suddenly, we haven't

  • Ex-Hockey Star Regret   Chapter 137 — Give him some time.

Bianca's POV"And how you expect one who you always feel is useless to come up with anything meaningful. Honestly, if you continue talking to me in the manner you do, then I wouldn't mind exposing all of these to whoever cares to listen because I have had it up to here…" He said, pointing to his neck. That moment, I felt attacked and knew the best I could do was to apologise to him.The word 'expose' was still ringing in my ears, very loud and clear, so it felt threatening. I couldn't let this spiral out of control. Not when everything was already falling apart."Hi, sweet. It hasn't gotten to that yet, you know. Ok, I am so sorry if I have said something that didn't go down well with you. Please, forgive me. I am so sorry and I won't do that again, I promise."My voice came out softer than I'd intended…almost pleading. But I don't care about pride right now. I care

  • Ex-Hockey Star Regret   Chapter 136 — He threatens to expose me.

Bianca's POV"How did it go?" Josh foolishly asked, the moment he opened the door while I had knocked heavily on the door as if I had wanted to pull down the door. The question hit me like a slap. Like he'd just asked the dumbest thing anyone could possibly ask right now.I had just got back so angry from the hospital, with Leo. And I decided to come to Josh's place first because honestly he was the only person I felt that I would rant to, at least, knowing that my secret was safe with him and the fact that he has been part of this all along. My hands were still shaking from how hard everything played out right there at the hospital. From the little withdrawal tough times Brad gave to when Nicole came in . And so, with that my jaw hurt from clenching it so tight. Everything about today had gone wrong. I mean, everything. And here he was, standing in his doorway, asking me how it went like we were tal

  • Ex-Hockey Star Regret   Chapter 135 — What if his mum is also involved in this too?

Nicole's POV"You ain't saying anything." Brad called my attention. "I asked if the detective has gotten back to you with regards to the findings on Bianca."His voice pulled me back from wherever my mind had wandered off to. I looked at him, at the way he was watching me with those eyes that looked like they missed nothing even with the amnesia.I hesitated a little before saying. "Nope, he has not. He is still on it, Brad." I said but I could bet that my demeanor said the stark opposite. The lie felt heavy and wrong on my tongue, like it didn't belong there. Because I know for a fact that Brad deserved the truth. He deserved to know what was happening in his own life, even if that truth was still complicated for now."Why are you lying to me?" Brad asked me.My heart skipped a beat immediately. How did he know? How could he tell? Or did he sense anything?"How exactly?" I asked him."You just said that the detective hasn't gotten back to you but your facial expression said the opposi

  • Ex-Hockey Star Regret   Chapter 134 — Keeping my cool.

Nicole's POVJust as I got to the entrance of Brad's hospital room, I tried to open the door right away.Guess what? Yeah, you guessed right. Bianca was at the other side of the door as she tried to exit the room. And you know the funniest part of it all. She was standing right there with Leo. The same boy that she wants to push the narrative that Brad fathered him after she faked a DNA result, just like Detective Joe had disclosed. My stomach did a weird flip. Seeing them together like that and seeing Leo's little hand in hers, it made everything Detective Joe had told me feel suddenly real. Like, it was all too real. But I couldn't let it show. I couldn't let Bianca see even the slightest shift of what I knew."Hello, Bianca." I greeted her casually the moment I got in.She looked at me like I was dirt on her shoe. Her eyes narrowed and her lips pressed into a thin line. Then she just turned her head away. She actually snubbed me big time but it didn't mean anything to me. This wasn

  • Ex-Hockey Star Regret   Chapter 133 — Why is Brad acting so tough?

Bianca's POVI held Leo's hand as we walked down the hospital corridor toward Brad's room. My heels clicked against the floor, echoing in the quiet hallway. Leo's small hand felt warm in mine, and I could feel him keeping pace beside me without any fuss.He was ready and I was ready too. So, I strongly believe that this was going to work this time.It was left with no choice, if not to work with and it had to work.We stopped right outside Brad's door. I took a breath, smoothed down my dress and looked down at Leo. He looked up at me with those attractive eyes, looking all calm and focused and not a trace of nervousness. Just pure professionalism wrapped up in a four-year-old body."Ready?" I whispered. He nodded once.I pushed the door open and stepped inside, pulling Leo gently with me.Brad was sitting up in bed, his back against the pillows. He looked better than the last time I'd seen him. Less pale but more alert. His eyes moved to us the moment we entered."Hi, Brad." I said, p
