"This is not the time to ask this kind of question. We need to do something. And we need to do it fast."

Albert threw his head back against the pillow and closed his eyes again. "Go and do whatever you want to do and let me be. I'm not getting up from this bed. And for the last time, don't wake me up again. If you cannot be here and silent, you get out and let me sleep."

Jennifer stood there, stunned, hurt beyond words. How could he ignore their daughter like this? How could he turn his back on her, knowing she was suffering?

She swallowed back her emotions and ran a trembling hand through her hair. Her mind raced, thinking of what to do. She turned away, leaving Albert to his selfish sleep. She needed to do something and save her daughter.

Jennifer's heart was pounding in her chest as she stepped into Emily's room. As she approached the bed, she saw her daughter curled up, shivering more than before. The sight sent a sharp pain through Jennifer’s chest.

She sat down beside her and g

  • Ex-Husband Step Aside, I Don't Need You Anymore    Discharged

He got up from the bed and made his way to the living room. He headed to the mini-bar, grabbed a bottle of wine, and poured himself a generous amount. He took a deep sip and leaned against the counter, letting the drink burn its way down his throat. He went and sat on the couch, then poured another drink for himself. He wanted to get tipsy and forget about his wife and daughter so he could sleep. But the more he drank, the more the thought filled his head. Soon, he emptied the bottle of wine. At this point, he couldn't even stand up. He lay there, drunk and exhausted. He didn't know when he drifted off to sleep. For the first time in ten years, he slept on the couch. . . . The next morning, in the hospital, Immediately it clocked seven, the doctor arrived for the routine checkup. He examined Emily and turned to Jennifer with a reassuring expression. "She’s recovering well. She's now fit to go home. She just needs to continue her medication." "Alright, thank you, doctor." Th

  • Ex-Husband Step Aside, I Don't Need You Anymore    Sleepless night

Jennifer sat behind Emily’s hospital bed, totally exhausted. She was hungry, but the appetite was not there. Seeing her daughter breathing steadily was the only thing keeping her together. She was about to drift off to sleep when she heard Emily call her. "Mom." Jennifer’s head shot up instantly. Her eyes widened in relief as she saw Emily’s bright, clear eyes staring back at her. "You are awake!" Jennifer said and gently placed her hand on her daughter's forehead. "How are you feeling now?" Emily shifted slightly under the hospital blanket and gave a small nod. "I feel stronger now." Jennifer smiled in relief. After the terror of nearly losing her, hearing Emily say those words was enough to bring tears to her eyes. "That’s wonderful," she whispered, and kissed her daughter's forehead. "Thank you for taking care of me, Mom." She said, and Jennifer frowned slightly. "Sweetheart, you don’t have to thank me," she said and brushed her hair back gently. "I’m your mother. My prior

  • Ex-Husband Step Aside, I Don't Need You Anymore    Caleb visited Albert

Caleb got to Albert's company and headed directly to his office. When he got to his door, he knocked. "Come in." He heard Albert's voice from the inside, and pushed the door, then stepped inside. Albert looked up from his desk, a smile forming as he prepared to greet him. But when he saw Caleb's facial expression, his smile faltered. It was as if Caleb was coming to confront him. He began to wonder what he had done wrong. "So you are truly in your office." He said in disbelief. Albert furrowed his brows slightly in confusion. "Is there any problem? Have you been looking for me?" He gestured to the chair in front of him. "Please, sit down." But Caleb refused to sit down. "I’m not here to sit down, Albert." He said with a tense voice. "I’ve been calling you, but you weren’t picking up." "You were calling me?" Albert asked, and just then, he remembered his phone was on silent. "Oh! My phone is on silent. I wasn’t aware. I'm sorry about it." "Anyway, I'm just coming from the h

Just in the first ring, Caleb picked up. "Hello, Jennifer. How are you doing?" He asked. "I'm not fine, Caleb. I'm in the hospital." She replied amidst sobs. "What happened? Is it about Emily?" Caleb asked. He knew about Emily and what Jennifer and Albert had been passing through for years. "Yes, her sickness started again. She fainted after eating, and I brought her to the hospital. The doctor said she needs two pints of blood. She’s dying. I need your help." Jennifer pleaded, and there was silence on the other end. "Is Albert not with you?" Caleb asked after some moments. "He’s not here. I've tried to call him, and he wasn't picking up my calls. I don’t have enough money on my bank card. Please, Caleb—please help me. I don't want to lose Emily. She's all I have." "Which hospital is that?" Caleb asked. "City Life Hospital, Ward 4, Room 041." Jennifer replied. "I’m coming. You will see me now." Caleb assured her, and the call ended, but Jennifer’s anxiety didn’t. She stood

She checked her pulse and was slightly revived. She was still alive, but she was unresponsive. Jennifer quickly grabbed her phone and dialed Albert’s number. Her hands were shaking so badly that she almost pressed the wrong button. As the phone began to ring, she prayed he would pick it up. Unfortunately, he didn’t answer. She tried again. "Albert, please! Pick up the phone!" She cried out, but there was no response. By the time Jennifer was calling, Albert was on his way to his company. He had seen her calls but had ignored them intentionally. When she called again, it felt as if she was disturbing and distracting him from diving. He reached for the device, switched it to silent, and continued driving. Back at home, Jennifer kept calling. She called him multiple times before she finally gave up. She couldn’t waste any more time. She put her phone and bank card into her purse and carried Emily up. She needed to take her daughter to the hospital by any means. She step

  • Ex-Husband Step Aside, I Don't Need You Anymore    Unconscious

"So you are saying all this because of your ex-girlfriend's son? Because of a child you have outside wedlock?""It's not entirely because of that. I've tried the best I could. I won't continue to waste my hard-earned money on her. If you can excuse me, I have a lot to do in my office." She moved to leave, and Jennifer blocked his way."Get out of my way, Jennifer. I don't want to hurt you." He warned."So you are not going to take her to the hospital?""She can wait until I'm done with important things. Now leave my way." He said, but Jennifer insisted. He pushed her aside and strolled out of the room."Albert, did you just push me?" Jennifer yelled, but he ignored her. She watched him walk away without looking back. This time, she became more scared. Albert has never pushed her like that. He was turning ruthless to her and her daughter. "Albert," she called after him again, but he didn’t answer. Albert strode into the sitting room, adjusting his sleeves as he made his way to leave.
