LOGINHILDA’S POV
A wave of gasps erupted through the room at my declaration. Everyone turned to look at Lillian, their gazes demanding that she somehow explain why she was lying. Her mouth fell wide open as rapidly as it closed. Clearly, she hadn’t expected me to out her like that but I couldn’t care less. I did not in any way owe her any commitment. If not for anything, I have stayed silent, kept my head down, let her have what she wanted for so long. But no, not this time. Wilson stiffened beside me, his jaw clenching as he cut me a hard glare. I could see his chest heaving up and down with simmering, but I couldn’t care less. I’ve had enough of his humiliation and I wasn’t going to act like he owns me anymore. Eleanor, his mother, shot up from her chair, her face contorting into a grimace as she cut Lillian a deadly glare. She vehemently slammed her palms onto the big round table, the glasses of wine trembling with a clinking noise as they threatened to shatter. Caught unaware, the guest's gaze moved between me, Wilson, and Lillian. “Then what the hell are you doing here, Lillian?” she shouted, her sharp voice piercing through the murmurs of the crowd. Yes, Madam Eleanor wasn’t one to be played with. She’s always been selective of the kind of people that she kept in her circle and Lillian definitely stood no chance of getting in. It was Madam Eleanor who ensured that Lillian leave town when Wilson and I got engaged. She simply didn't like how Lillian was throwing herself at Wilson after we lost our baby. Lillian shook but quickly masked her fear by tilting her chin up defiantly. “I… I was invited,” she stammered, her voice shaking just a little. Madam Eleanor let out a cold empty laugh, her gaze scrutinizing her head to toe in disgust as she demanded, “Invited? By who? Certainly not me, and clearly not Hilda. So tell me. Who the hell let you in here?” Lillian’s eyes darted to Wilson and then back to Eleanor, “I only came because I wanted to support Wilson,” she answered with feigned confidence. “He’s still my friend after all.” “Mom, maybe you should calm down,” Jason, Wilson’s younger brother, spoke up gently, trying to ease the tension. Eleanor’s glare shot to him instantly. “Will you shut up? Jason!” Eleanor commanded. He sank back into his chair, raising his hands in surrender. Wilson’s fists clenched tightly at his sides, his eyes fixated on the table but he wasn't looking at anything in particular. He looked like he wanted to say something but was restraining himself. “Get out,” Eleanor snarled, pointing a finger toward the grand entrance. “Get out now before I have the guards throw you out!” Lillian’s face flushed with embarrassment as she stole glances around through the corner of her eyes. She glanced back at Wilson, hoping that he would defend her, but no. He didn’t even glance her way or utter a word. With her fist clenched by her side, she gave one last long look at me before rushing out of the hall. The silence that followed after her departure was suffocating but I couldn’t care less. Letting out a slow long breath, relief flooded through my veins as I realised the worst was over. Well, that’s what I had thought until I turned and locked gaze with Wilson. He looked at me as if he wanted to tear my flesh apart. I could feel the heat coming out of his burning gaze. A loud scraping sound reverberated through the hall as he abruptly stood up, pushed his chair back, and stormed out after Lillian. “W-Wilson,” I called out. “Edwilson!” Eleanor shouted right after me, her tone sharp and commanding, but that didn’t stop him. He didn’t even look back. He just kept walking, his footsteps echoing rhythmically till he reached the entrance. With a single yank, the door opened as fast as it slammed shut behind him. Eleanor collapsed back into her chair, pressing her hand to her chest and fanning herself with trembling fingers. “Oh, for the love of God,” she muttered. I sat still, my heart slowly becoming heavy as everything closed in on me. He left. He actually left…to go after her in the presence of everyone. Not that I wasn’t expecting him not to but at least he should have kept his part of the agreement we made the other day. That we will pretend to be the happy couple till he decides the right time to let them know about the divorce. A sob clawed its way up my throat but I swallowed it back. I forced a smile on my face, though my lips trembled. I reached for my glass of wine from the table, the bitter taste of it burning all the way down my throat as I took a long sip. Putting the glass back down, my gaze met that of Eleanor’s. She tried but she couldn’t mask the pity she was feeling for me. Even though Eleanor acts ignorant, she was very much aware of how distant Wilson was towards me. She straightened her back, smoothing out her dress, and said. “Hilda, dear,” she began softly. “You did well by voicing the truth. You don’t have to cover up for her.” I gave her a curt nod in response.HILDA'S POV“I’m so ready,” I murmured back, straightening my jacket and passing a hand through my ponytail.I smiled, waving at the cameras. I could feel my heart racing, but I held myself together. This was part of the game, part of being this new me.The moderator stepped forward and began speaking. “Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for being here today. We are proud to announce a new partnership between the Rodriguez group and the Cruz Group. Hilda Rodriguez and Adrian Cruz from both companies are here to speak on the vision behind this collaboration.”I took a small breath in and stepped forward, nodding at Adrian before I began addressing the crowd.“Good morning, everyone,” I began, my voice steady and clear not betraying how jittery I felt inside.“Thank you for joining us here today. This partnership is not just about merging resources or expanding our market reach. This is about building something bigger than every one of us here. We are talking about the Rodriguez Future City
HILDA’S POVThe photos the paparazzi had taken of me and Adrian had gone viral. There were different takes on it; I knew because I had seen the comments. Some people thought it was a farce to get back with Wilson.Others thought it was a way of announcing my new relationship with Adrian. A majority thought we looked good together, and they were shipping us.I, for one, was pissed. How did the paparazzi know we were going to be there? Nobody knew my whereabouts for that day, not even my nan. Had they been following us?My nan had called me and asked about Adrian. I had to have the very awkward conversation of convincing her that it was just work between us.The partnership between our companies was going to be announced today. We were planning on holding a press conference. We were collaborating on the future city project. I had spent nights going through everything on Adrian's company. I was not about to risk the biggest project my company was taking on.I only brought the partnership
HILDA'S POVWe had left my new place not too long ago and we had driven to a restaurant overlooking the marina. The place was beautiful. It had floor to ceiling windows and you could see far out into the distance where water was stretched long.Boats were moving lazily over the water surface and the sunlight reflected off the lulling waves.I loved places like this.Adrian pulled my chair out for me before sitting down across from me.“You like it?” he asked with a small smile.“I love it,” I replied as I looked around. “You picked such a good spot. It's so peaceful.”“I know, right? I come here whenever I need alone time. It's never noisy.”The waiter came over with menus soon and water and we placed our orders. I was starving and the smell of food drifting through the restaurant was not helping.Adrian rested his elbows on the table as he watched me.“This is probably the happiest I've ever seen you,” he said.“I guess. I feel so happy,” I admitted.“This move means a whole lot to y
HILDA'S POVI was finally packing to my new house. I felt good. I twerked as I played Up by Cardi B loudly in the background. I felt really good today. I was meeting up with Adrian so we could go over to the house together and then we would go have brunch. It was a really good day and I refused to let anything ruin my mood. I still had not figured out who had sabotaged the project but I was not about to let that bother me today.Adrian and I had gone furniture shopping a few days back. We had to fight over who would pay and he eventually won after using his height to his advantage and reaching the counter before I could even get my card out. It was a fun day and I had laughed so much. All the times I had spent with Adrian were fun. We had deep conversations and I loved the way he thought. It was refreshing to hear his opinions and I loved how he always listened and remembered everything I said to him.He made me feel important. He was always attentive to me, my body language, everythi
HILDA'S POVBy the time I got home that evening, I was already exhausted. The day had been so long and chaotic, and all I wanted to do was throw myself on my bed and sleep for twelve hours straight. But I had dinner plans and surprisingly, I was actually looking forward to it.Adrian had sent the location after we had spoken in the afternoon. It was a newly opened upscale restaurant that I had been wanting to try but never really got the chance.I kicked off my heels first and stretched my toes with relief.“Finally,” I muttered and sighed.I walked into the bathroom and splashed some cool water on my face. The reflection staring back at me looked very tired, but I would fix it.By the time I stepped out of the hot shower, I already felt lighter. The stress from the office had faded a little and now the only thing left was deciding what to wear.I opened my closet and stared at the numerous rows of clothes. After a few minutes of staring and changing my mind three times, I finally set
HILDA'S POVThe whole office was chaotic.Employees were running around all morning and it had been one meeting after another. Phones kept ringing, people were talking over each other, and Anne had already walked into my office about three times with updates.Someone had tried to mess with the tech city program. They had deleted the main program I sent to the developer last night. He had called me in the morning sounding like he was about to pass out and then he let me know that the file was gone. It had been completely erased.I had several copies of the files. I wasn't stupid enough to think that everybody was happy with the recent developments. I knew there was likely to be a sabotage of some sort.I kept copies of everything on different servers, different drives, different backups.I resent the program to the developer and told him to get started immediately. There was no time to waste.Still, that was not the point.Someone had gotten access to his laptop and that bothered me.N
