It's been three good days since Adrian left the house, and since then, I'm yet to hear from him, and he hasn't also been picking up my calls.
I know he's doing this just to punish me because I refused to apologise to Melissa after the heated argument we had that ended with me slapping her.
He had witnessed how Melissa insulted my late mum during the argument and also how she accused me of stealing him from her, something he too wasn't even sure if it was true or not, and yet he insisted that I apologise to her, and when I refused, he just took his car keys and left with Melissa, and since then till this morning, I'm still yet to set my eyes on him.
I have tried calling him countless times to ask him when he will be coming back home, but he hasn't been picking up my calls.
Given that I had asked him to treat me like his real wife for one more month, surely he now thinks that I'm so much in love with him to the extent that I can't even live a single day without seeing him and that him deciding not to come back home is a way of punishing me.
It's true that I have missed him for these past few days that he has been absent, but one thing he doesn't know is that I have begun losing interest in him with each passing day, and this began right from the day he confessed to me that everything he has been doing for me since we got married was just so that he won't forget what Melissa taught him about how a man should treat his wife.
Right from the beginning, my main plan was never to fall in love with him till the end of our three-year contract marriage; by so doing, I won't have difficulties leaving him when we finally get divorced and he gets back with his Melissa, who has always been the love of his life.
The main reason why I pushed that plan aside and allowed myself to fall for him was because I believed that he has fallen in love with me and that was the reason why he was treating me the way he was treating me for the past three years we have been married. Had I known that he was doing it just so that he wouldn't forget what Melissa taught him about how a man should treat his woman, I would have stuck to my initial plan. After all, which woman in her right senses would fall in love with a man who she knows very well believes that she created a scandal that could ruin his life and that with the goal of preventing him from getting married to his fiancee and also stealing him for herself?
Well, it's a good thing that I have begun losing interest in him; at least at the end of the one month, I won't have any difficulties leaving. The only thing I will be leaving with is the memories of him pretending to be a real husband to me, and that will also be the only thing that I will be taking to the grave with me.
As these thoughts were running through my mind, my phone that was lying beside me began ringing, snapping me back to reality.
Thinking that it was Adrian who had finally decided to call back, I immediately took the phone and checked the caller ID, only to see that it wasn't Adrian but rather Andrew, my secret personal doctor and also the only person who knows that I am suffering from a terminal illness.
Knowing the reason why he was calling, I hesitated for some minutes before finally picking up the call and placing the phone on my ear.
"Hello, Doctor Andrew, how are you doing?" I asked him after picking up the call.
"I'm doing good, Mrs Darlington. What about you?" He asked me through the phone.
"You already know how I'm doing, so I don't think I need to answer that," I said to him in reply.
"As your doctor, I know how you are doing; that's why I asked to see you yesterday so that we can discuss what to do for you to get better, but you didn't show up," he said to me through the phone.
"Well, I think what you meant is that we will discuss about how to prolong my suffering so that I won't die in less than six months; if not, I don't think my situation is going to get better unless you have found a permanent cure for my illness," I said to him, and with that he sighed heavily.
"Mrs Darlington, I have told you that what you are suffering from is a very rare illness, and even if I don't have the cure right away, there's still a possibility that I can find one very soon, but in order to do that, you need to be alive," the doctor said to me, and I sighed heavily. "Of what use will it be if you have already passed away even before I find the cure? So please, let's meet today so that we can discuss how you will stay alive while I'm looking for the cure for the illness," the doctor said to me, and once again I sighed heavily without saying anything.
Right from when my Mum was sick, the doctor has already told me that there was no current cure for the illness, but he had also told me that he would contact some of his colleagues outside the country to see if any of them have ever encountered a patient suffering from the same illness and whether they managed to find a cure for the patient.
Since he haven't found a cure since then till now, I knew that there was a high probability of him not finding one anytime soon, and because of that, I didn't want to keep my hopes high only to end up being disappointed; that's why I didn't meet up with him yesterday to discuss a treatment plan for my illness.
"Hello, Mrs Darlington, are you still there?" The doctor's voice sounded through the phone, jolting me back to reality.
"Yes, I'm still here. By what time do you want us to meet?" I asked him.
"Well, today is my day off, we can't meet at the hospital, so I will send the address of where we can meet and also the time. "I hope that's okay with you?" he asked me.
"Yes, that's okay with me," I said to him before hanging up and tossing the phone on the bed as I already knew deep down that all this was going to lead to only one thing which is disappointment.
*Adrian*Getting to the front of the conference, which had a transparent door, I immediately opened it and walked inside, and at the same time, Amelia, who was sitting on one of the chairs while manipulating her phone, turned her gaze towards me. Before we could even greet each other, Melissa barged into the room with an angry look written all over her face."What the hell are you doing here? Have you come to steal my fiancee's company just as you did my father's company and mansion?" Melissa thundered angrily at Amelia._______________________________________"You see Melissa, this is one of the reasons why I hate helping people who are in need no matter how close they are to me, because sooner or later they will still call you a bad person for helping them," Amelia said to Melissa with a disappointed tone. "Your dad was about to go to jail because of the fraud he committed, and as a good person that I am, I agreed to help him after you came to my place begging for my help. I could h
*Adrian*"Okay, Amelia, I will be expecting you," I said to her before hanging up the call, and with that, I stood up from my chair and walked towards the door, wanting to see the employee who wanted to break down the door of my office just because I didn't reply immediately after he or she knocked.Opening the door, I immediately scoffed angrily as I saw the person who was standing in front of my door while grinning ear to ear."Woman, what the hell are you looking for in my company today again?" I asked the person who was no one else than Melissa.____________________________________"I came to see you, of course, or is it now a crime to pay a surprise visit to my fiance?" Melissa asked me while grinning ear to ear."Point of correction, woman, I'm no longer your fiancé, and in case you have forgotten, we will be going our separate ways very soon," I said to Melissa before turning and walking back towards my chair while leaving the door open so that she would come inside if she want
*Adrian*The following day after the incident that took place at Amelia's place, I was busy working on some important files on my computer when my phone suddenly began ringing. Inserting my hand into the side pocket of my suit, I brought out the phone and checked the caller ID, which was no one else but Mr. Schwartz. On seeing the phone number, I immediately recalled that I didn't even tell Amelia about Mr. Schwartz calling and the reason why he called; I had ended up kissing her without her consent, and because of that, she kicked me out of her house even before I could tell her about who I discussed with on the phone and the reason why he called."Hi, good morning, Mr. Schwartz. How are you doing?" I asked him after picking up the call."I'm doing good, Mr. Darlington. What about you?" Mr. Schwartz asked me."I'm doing good too," I said to him in reply."Okay, first of all, sorry for addressing Mrs. Jones as your wife yesterday; I didn't know that both were already divorced," Mr. S
*Adrian*"Mr. Schwartz, please allow me to discuss it with her first, and then I will get back to you," I said to him."Okay, no problem, Mr. Darlington. I will be expecting your call," Mr. Schwarz said to me before hanging up."Can you please tell me what exactly is going on and why you made mention of my mother, who is no longer your mother-in-law, in your call?" Amelia asked me with an inquisitive look._____________________________________"And who the hell said that your mother is no longer my mother in law?" I asked Amelia with furrowed brows, and with that, she scoffed angrily at me."It is I myself that said it, or do you expect my mother to keep on being your mother-in-law even after we got divorced?" Amelia asked me. "Yes, of course; after all, the divorce was between both of us and not between me and your mother," I said to Amelia. "Also, we would have still been together if you hadn't been playing hard to get," I added."Hold it right there, Adrian. What the hell do you m
*Adrian*"And what makes you think that it's not going to be worth it?" Amelia asked me with an inquisitive tone."That's because the person is probably dead; people who usually get abducted the way he was abducted hardly make it out alive," I said to Amelia. "What you should be more focused on right now is finding who sent the person to be stalking you, and for that I'm going to help you," I said to Amelia while concealing from her that I already know who the person is."And how long is it going to take you to find the person?" Amelia asked me."Do not worry, sweetheart; it's going to be faster than you expect," I said to Amelia while grinning ear to ear. ______________________________________"So sweetheart, what are we having for dinner?" I asked Amelia after discussing with her for a little, and with that, she raised her head and looked at me like someone who has just said something abominable."First of all, Adrian, you really need to stop calling me 'sweetheart' because not only
*Adrian*After discussing with Amelia through the phone, I reversed my car and started heading to her place. Since she needed my help, I had wanted to use the opportunity and invite her over to my second mansion, which she has never come to even while we were married. Despite everything I told her, including that I won't be coming over to her place since she doesn't want to come to mine, she still refused to come over, just because she thinks that Melissa will come over and catch both of us together. I also had no plans of changing my mind; after all, I was very tired after everything I went through the whole day, and the only thing I wanted to do was go back home and get some rest, but the very moment Amelia told me that the reason why she wanted me to come over was because she was being followed, I immediately changed my mind.I had known that Henry had sent someone to be keeping an eye on her all in the name of protecting her from people like me, and since Henry was the boyfriend s
*Adrian*Getting to the location where Amelia was, I was surprised to see that it was a restaurant. Knowing that Amelia rarely leaves the house, talk less of going to a restaurant, I didn't waste any time before getting down from my car and making my way into the restaurant, and on getting inside,
*Amelia* I didn't know whether I should laugh or cry as Adrian dropped me off on the roadside just to go back to Melissa, who he has been with for the past three days. It's true that he didn't precisely tell me that he was going to see Melissa, but from the way he spoke so calmly on the phone and
*Amelia*"So what is it you want to tell me?" I asked him with an inquisitive look."Well, I saw the news of the deal you signed with Henry Gonzalez; that's what I want to talk to you about," he said to me before taking a sip of the juice."What about that?" I asked him."I want you to cancel the d
*Adrian* Leaving Amelia's place, I made my way to the roadside like the previous night, and just some minutes later, Ben pulled over beside me with his car, and with that, I opened the door and got inside, and without wasting any time, Ben drove off."Hey Ben, sorry for the delay," I said to him a
