“She pushed me into the pool.” I looked in horror as Lucius took off his jacket, gently helping Sasha to sit down on the floor and covering her shoulders with his jacket. “Did you push her into the pool?” He narrowed his eyes as he leaned toward me, and I stepped back, my heart pounding in my chest. “Answer me!” “I - She,“ I stuttered, barely able to utter a single word as I looked at Sasha, who was smirking at me. It suddenly made sense why she had jumped into the pool. She knew Lucius would believe her if she told him I pushed her into the pool. “What was the plan, Alisha?!” he sneered. “Did you want to kill her? Do you even know that she can’t swim?” “I didn’t do it, Lucius. She -“ “Are you calling her a liar?” He snarled. “Are you calling me a liar, even after what I saw?” “You must believe me. I didn’t do it,” I cried. “I was barely standing two feet from her when she fell into the pool. This was all her plan, Lucius. She wants you to be angry at me,” I answered as I looked at Sasha, who rolled her eyes and got up from the floor. “I want you out of this house right now!” he angrily pointed to the door. “Right now?” I asked, shocked, because he knew very well that I had nowhere else to go. “Where will I go at this time?” “You should’ve thought about that before you assaulted my fiancé and threw her into the pool. Do you know she can open a case against you and have you arrested? This is the same as attempted murder because she can’t swim. If I weren’t nearby, she would’ve died.” “You believe her?” “She’s carrying my child, Alisha!” I looked at Sasha and let the tears at the corners of my eyes roll down my cheeks. Hearing Lucius say that caused my stomach to twist, and I knew I had no place in the house anymore. There was nothing I could use to fight for our marriage. “So I’ve heard,” I scoffed. “I didn’t deserve this, Lucius. I know you wanted to have children of your own, but I didn’t deserve this.” “I tried to do right by you. I tried to be the husband that you wanted, but you just couldn’t give me what I wanted the most. You couldn’t have made me happier than I’ve been with Sasha these past few months.” “I can’t believe this,” I huffed, feeling my heart and all the bones in my body growing weak. “You promised never to hurt me, but look at you now. What did I do to you, Lucius?” “You failed to be the woman that I married you to be. You failed as a woman, and besides sex, you weren’t really bringing anything into my life, Alisha.” “I’ve been with you through thick and thin. I -“ “Please, save me all that pitiful talk. Sasha is carrying my child, and I can’t risk their lives.” “How could you take her side when you didn’t see what happened?” I exclaimed. “She jumped into the pool because she obviously wanted you to act like you’re acting right now toward me. Can’t you see that?” I cried. “You must leave right now. I can’t allow you to be under the same roof as Sasha in her condition. I don’t want you to put her and the baby in danger.” “But -“ When I tried to resist, Lucius grabbed my arm and dragged me inside the house, heading to the front door with me. When we got to the hallway near the living room, everyone’s heads turned and looked at us. Even the ladies who came with Sasha turned and looked at what Lucious was doing to me. They were probably enjoying the show. “What’s going on?” His mother questioned behind him. “I don’t want her in this house,” Lucius answered as he opened the door and pushed me to the floor outside. “She tried to drown Sasha in the pool. She could’ve died if I hadn’t taken her out on time.” I landed on my arm, closed my eyes, and groaned from the excruciating pain that felt like a knife in my stomach. When I looked up, Lucius and his family were looking down at me as if they would throw stones at me until there was nothing but flesh on the floor. “How dare you try to hurt Sasha?” Olivia scolded. “Do you know who she is?” She snarled. “She’s the daughter of the CEO of the Imperial Group. He could end your life with a snap of his fingers, and your existence would cease.” ‘Daughter of the CEO of the Imperial Group?’ I internally asked myself as I looked at them. “She has so much more money than you could ever imagine. You should be grateful that she hasn’t gotten you arrested,” Olivia added. “So, you better pray that nothing happens to her baby. If she miscarries her child, the blood will be on your hands, and you will be held responsible.” Before I could say a word to them, there was a loud thunder before the rain started pouring, and I was wet within seconds. I was so sure that Lucius wouldn’t let me be outside the house while it was raining, but when everyone leaned back, he glanced at me for a second before he slammed the door behind them. I lay there for a moment and couldn’t believe that my husband was doing this to me. I couldn’t believe that the same man who loved me with all that he had a few months ago was the same man who was now treating me as if I meant nothing to him. I got up from the floor, and when I turned around, security was already at my side, heading to the gate with me. After they closed the gate, I looked at the house and then walked down the road to the filling station to call Francesca. But when I was about to cross the road to the other side, a honking sound and screeching wheels caught me by surprise, and before I knew it, I passed out. When I woke up, my head was pounding, and there was an IV drip attached to my wrist. I almost screamed before I realized I was in the hospital. I was so relieved when a doctor walked into the room. “Good evening, Mrs. Hall. I am so glad that you’re finally awake. I’ve informed your husband that you got into a car accident and have been admitted to the hospital for almost 24 hours now. He promised to come as soon as he could.” She informed me with a smile on her face. “My God, I thought I was going to die,” I groaned as I remembered the honking and screeching sounds of a car. “Thank God for the gentleman who saved your life,” she beamed. “You were so lucky that the car didn’t hit you badly enough to fracture any bones in your body, and the little one that’s growing inside you.” I yanked my head and looked at her with my eyes popping open. “What? What are you talking about?” “Mrs. Hall, you’re pregnant and estimated to be 6 weeks and 5 days along,” she smiled. “Oh,” she squealed as she looked at the door as someone walked in. “There he is! The gentleman who saved your life.” “Santino?” I breathed in shock as he walked toward my bed. “Camilla. It’s been a long time.”•SAKAI•“The plan was to talk with Camilla and find out what she thought about the baby, Kai. I don’t want us to be the foster parents of the baby anymore,” Onika complained when the baby monitor woke us at 2 AM.I felt exhausted after a long day at work and didn’t want to stay up to feed and change the baby like I did the previous night.Onika and I agreed to change nights watching over the baby until she was older to have a proper sleeping schedule. We agreed to raise Noleen as we raised Charlotte. We didn’t want her to have a nanny either. That experience brought us closer to our baby, and we never regretted the sleepless nights. She didn’t have a problem until now.“Can it be your night today? You know I’ve been at work all day yesterday and need rest before working in the morning.”“Can we talk about what we are going to do about Noleen? I talked with Naya, and she told me they are home. I’ve done my part with Charlotte, and I don’t want to sacrifice my sleep for Cecilia’s baby.”
•LUCIUS•“Camilla and her baby are safe. Can you let me go now? My mother and brother must be worried about me, and I don’t want them to worry about me. My brother, Tyler, is very aggressive and might suspect something went wrong and come to find me and Francesca.”Enzo kept yapping at the back of my car. I didn’t know what to do to get him to stop whining. Santino was still in the hospital and told me to wait outside with Enzo because he had organized someone to pick him up.“You’ve been talking for the last ten minutes, aren’t you tired? Santino and I told you we won’t let you go until we’ve ensured that Camilla is safe. We told you we would take you home.”“Tyler won’t wait until you take me home when you want. If you let me go now, I’ll tell him that Francesca’s death was my fault, and that you arrived in the building when she was already dead. He won’t do anything to you.”I chuckled. “What would your brother do to me and Santino after you both kidnapped Camilla and put her life
•CAMILLA•“Mr. Banks, the baby’s life and Camilla’s life are in danger, and if she doesn’t want us to save her, she will die from excessive bleeding and complications of late miscarriage.” The doctor whispered to Santino near the door.I looked at the wall near the bed and cried, caressing my stomach. I hoped something would change when they did their scans, but it was clear I wouldn’t hear the end of their predictions if I didn’t go home.As long as I felt my baby moving, everything felt like it would be alright with him.The thought of getting rid of him when he could’ve survived the odds made me not want to do what the doctors thought was best.“The baby’s kicking, Dr. Buckley. Camilla’s fine and responding positively to the medicine you’ve put her on. There haven’t been major complications since she has been in the hospital, so that has to mean something.”“She may look good now, but in a few days or a week, things will change, and the baby won’t progress as he’s meant to. If you
•CAMILLA•“Mommy, wake up. Wake up, Mommy.” A voice whispered. "Wake up."When I opened my eyes, I felt disoriented because of the ceiling lights and the beeping noises, and after I looked around the room, I knew I was in the hospital, and had an IV drip connected to my arm.“Nico?” I called out, but when a hand reached out and grabbed my wrist, I realized it was Santino.“Hey baby, you’re awake.” He smiled as he leaned over and placed a gentle kiss on my forehead.“Where’s Nico?” I was sure that he was the one who woke me up, and I wanted to tell him how much I missed him.I was so close to not seeing my son again, and I didn’t want that to happen again before he knew how much I loved him and how much he meant to me.“We are in Manhattan Hospital. Nico’s home in Chicago, babe. We will be with him once you’re discharged, but the doctors want to ensure that you are okay before they let you go home,” he answered, but somehow, it didn’t help with the grief I felt in my heart.“What’s wro
•LUCIUS•I stood there and watched as Santino’s car disappeared around the corner before I went to my car and followed behind him.Though I had accepted that Camilla would end up with him, I didn’t want to give up the little flickering hope that she would return to me.So, I wanted to choose her when I should’ve been mourning Sasha and preparing her burial.I understood Sasha had no family, and I would have to bury her, but she and I had nothing close to what I had with Camilla. So, I wanted Camilla to see me and see how important she was to me, despite how we ended up.When we got to the old nightclub building, Santino and Naya led the way and rushed inside while I followed behind them, checking the area to see if we weren’t being ambushed.“Camilla!” Santino called out as he inspected the building with his gun. When we walked inside to what appeared to be a mini apartment, we found a man with his hands raised in the air. He was crying and beside him were Camilla and a lady.“Please
•SANTINO•“Where are they?” Lucius asked when I had gotten off the call and given Naya the cell phone.“They’re at the 589 nightclub’s old building in Manhattan. I knew she didn’t take her far. She wanted us to think she had taken Camilla far from the city so that she would have time to finish her job and run away before we could find her.”“Fuck. I’m glad the nightclub isn’t far. We will be there in less than ten minutes.”I scoffed as I turned around and looked at Lucius. “Thank you for helping me find her, but you should go home now. Camilla will be safe with me.”“No, Santino.” He scoffed, frowning. “I told you why I’m doing this, and I won’t go home before I’ve made sure Camilla is safe.”“I will call you when we get home, but right now, I just want to be there for Camilla and our unborn baby. Can you do that for her?”“You mean for you?” He leaned forward, closing the small gap between us. “I won’t go anywhere, Santino. If you have a problem with me being there for Camilla, I sug
