Katherine's POV
Elle would gladly take me directly to her apartment after we left Reynold's place but I wanted her to take me straight to my parents house. But she didn't like the idea. I had left my family for five years and she'd prefer that I was prepared to meet them again and maybe practice an apology speech too. We stopped at a traffic light, and I got a clearer look at her facial expression now. Her hands on the wheel. She looked upset. “You better stop frowning before your modelling boss kicks you out of the agency for having wrinkles.” She was staring at the road, trying not to smile. “Whatever Kat.” The traffic light finally turned green and we were ready to go until suddenly something hit us from behind. The hit was a bit intense. It caused me to hit the window with my shoulder and head and Elle had hit her head on the steering wheel, causing the horn to go out of control. “What the fuck?”Elle managed to cuss. I had gotten a hold of myself. “Are you okay?”I asked Elle, who seemed shaken. She nods. “Are you okay?” She asked in turn. I nodded, although my head was spinning in pain. We came out of the car and we approached the black SUV behind Elle's car. A young man, about 6ft tall, had come out of the car. He takes his shades off. Elle queried him before he began to explain himself, “What the hell man? Didn't you see a car in front of you?”she glanced at the back of her car. It had a huge scratch. “Calm down lady. I'll pay for the damages. How much do you need?”I watched him with contempt as he arrogantly brought out money from his wallet. Were men really this arrogant these days? “You know the first thing you should have done was apologize. Would it hurt you to say sorry?” He took a good look at me, his blue eyes piercing through me. “I just said I'd pay for the damages. What else do you want?”he said calmly but there was a touch of arrogance in his tone. “That's not being sorry. Would you act like this if you killed us?” “Well, you're clearly not dead.” I scoffed, “Such a filthy attitude.”Elle said, wrinkling her nose in disgust. I was much more disgusted by the man's character. “Will you take the money for the damages or not?” he asked, stretching out the money in my direction. “Not without you saying sorry.” I stood my ground. The young man watched me for a moment, he grinned like I was some sort of joke. “I don't have time for this.” He dropped the money on Elle's car and walked back into his car. “The nerve.” Elle muttered, trying to grab the money before it was blown away by the wind. But I took all of it from her. “What are you doing, Kat.”Elle questioned but she didn't stop me from what I did next. I threw the money at the man’s car before he could make a reverse. His money was literally everywhere on the road. Well, good. Free dollars for everyone. “You men have become real animals these days.” I muttered, walking back towards Elle's car. “What did you do, kat?” Elle's eyes widened. “Get in, Elle. I'll drive.” Elle looked unhappy but she listened still and entered the car. Before I got into the car, the young man didn't drive away just yet. And I could swear I caught a glimpse of him watching me or rather checking me out with an impressed gaze. I rolled my eyes at him, and drove off. We finally arrived at my parents ' mansion and I could hear my own heartbeat beating like a drum. My parents' mansion had not changed one bit. It was still as huge as a skyscraper and still the most fancy buildings in the Willow estate. My parents had not changed too, they were getting old and they had just the same disappointed look on their faces the last time I saw them. “Forgive me. Mum, dad.” I managed to say, staring into their eyes sincerely to show them how sorry I was for disappointing them all those lost years being married to that bastard, Reynold. “I should have listened to you both. But now I've learnt my lessons the hard way and I want to make it up to you two.” They both looked at each other and I was ready to be judged for my actions or worse disowned over again. But then I hear something different. “We forgive you, Katherine.” My mum said, shocking me. “We did a long time ago.” My father added. “After we heard you couldn't give birth to Reynold for years.” My mother said with a concerned tone. “You've gone through so much already, my baby girl. And we are the only ones that will be here for you.” I was emotional at this point and Elle was too. I went towards them and hugged them both. “Thank you both so much.” “You won't regret having me back as your daughter. I promise.” I assured them and I could tell they believed me from the way they looked at me with acceptance. My father held my hand, “We're glad you're back to us. It's the right timing because we need you, the family's business needs you, Katherine.” My brows furrowed, “What's wrong with the company?” My parents looked at each other again, worry etched on their faces. “The family's company is going bankrupt. I can't do anything about it. And I believe you can handle it just like you've always done when you were CEO.” “But my cousin…what's Raynall doing about it?”I questioned because last time I heard. My father handed over the company's business to the available heir of the Deville's family which was my cousin, Raynall. “Your cousin has done nothing effective. That's why we need you, my girl.”Katherine's POVThis was the end game. Worse had come to worst, and I didn’t need anyone to tell me—I was the fucking loser in this game. But it felt like more than just a game—I had lost everything. The company—my inheritance—my supposed shot at happiness. I’d lost my peace of mind because there was a raging storm in my head, and the only way I’d found a little quiet was by locking myself in ever since it happened.Willow’s Company, solidly built by my parents for decades, was officially Raynall’s now. That son of a bitch had kicked me out after showing me undeniable proof that he now legally owned it.I closed my eyes tightly and let the tears fall—down my cheeks and into my ears. I lay flat on the bed, my gaze fixed on the ceiling. I was in my bedroom at Elle's apartment. It was dimly lit, and my phone kept ringing. I didn’t care who it was—I wasn’t in the right frame of mind to speak to anyone. That included Ryan.Suddenly, there was a knock—Elle again. She’d been trying to get me
Ryan's POV I had single handedly written the rules in the contract to my taste. And one of the rules was. No strings attached, no physical contact in this fake contract Marriage but here I was, fucking her like I did last time. There's no going back, I'm fucking her hard and she's moaning from real pleasure this time. I love the way she calls out my name, with grave passion, better than the other women have ever moaned my name. Her eyes are closed but I'm watching her and thrusting myself, in and out of her. She's beautiful. That's all I could think of at that moment. Then I finally pull out. We both gasp for air, lying side by side each other. “We just broke a rule in the contract.” She tells me, instead of putting the blame on just me who kissed her first. “I'm aware.” I stared into her hazel eyes. She has lovely eyes. But I look away because something feels weird within me whenever I look at her. I hate the feeling. “We should never do this again.” She says, staring at no
Katherine's POVDinner with Ryan's grandfather had unexpectedly gone smoothly… except that he had almost given me a heart attack with his numerous, bulging questions and that he wants Ryan and me to stay the night.I objected to the idea of staying over, but Ryan thinks his grandfather is up to something, and to overcome his grandfather's trap, we had to act like lovers—even behind closed doors.Ryan and I had no choice but to sleep in the same room, like real couples do. I walk around the room, anxious after sending Elle a text that I was spending the night at Ryan's house. She replies to the text immediately, asking what would happen to my scheduled appointment to see Raynall tomorrow. But I'm clueless on my end.Raynall had upgraded from being my little orphan cousin to becoming a big shot—and the only reason he's a big shot is because my parents gave him the privilege to become one.It took me weeks to finalize an appointment with him, even though I was family. He had cut everyone
Chapter 9 Katherine's POV “Here we are.” Ryan announced gently. My thoughts immediately shifted from the hurtful memory in my mind and was occupied by the presence of the beautiful mansion in front of us. Ryan swirled the wheel, making a turn towards a glowing blue fountain. We were at his grandfather's mansion and it was exactly what I expected it to look like. Tall, towering, not all white like I had imagined it to be but painted with a mix of grey. It had a balcony at the rooftop, and a secluded space that occupied, probably a hot bathtub. Ryan finally parked the car and I watched some security guards in black suits walk towards us from a distance. “Your grandfather stays alone?” I asked “Yes.” “And your grandmother?” “Never met her, the same goes for my parents.”He answered, looking straight ahead. I nod. He disclosed so much about himself without saying so much. I couldn't relate, or tell how it must have been hard for him to live without his parents. “Any
Katherine's POV The day had gone by so fast. I returned to Elle's apartment instead of going back to my parents house. Although my mum called to know where I was. Elle was pissed with me some hours ago and now we're discussing Ryan DeVille. A subject matter I never intended on discussing with her in the first place but I eventually told her everything because I knew how much gossip and men made her excited. She forgave me instantly. “You're going to do it right?” Her blue eyes glowed questioningly with excitement and her legs were kept in a yoga pose as she chewed on some nacho cheese. “I don't think so.” I answered as I laid on my back. My hand beneath my head as I stared at the ceiling. She sighed, raising her head towards the ceiling in frustration, then bringing it back down. “Why?” “Because Mr. Arrogant is not to be trusted. I don't trust him one bit.” “What are you scared of?” She asked but didn't let me respond to her question. “We are talking about Ryan DeVill
Katherine's POVIt was all just like a dream. I could remember getting divorced a week ago and all of a sudden I was in a hotel pretending to be another man's girlfriend, walking hand in hand with him on the stairs as we approached the paparazzi outside the hotel.I clung to my leather jacket, glaring at the crowd outside.“Tell me you have your securities around here.”“Paparazzis don't bite. They just ask questions.” Ryan said in a way that made me feel dumb.I was looking at him now, pissed. “I know that. We need securities for whatever fangirls you got in that crowd.”He was wealthy, an arrogant playboy. I couldn't be wrong about him having some girls amidst the crowd, ready to rush at him and harm me in the process. He glared at me, a smirk followed. “Oh, so now you show your side of weakness.”he mocked. “A while back, you were all bold and a strong willed woman. Weren't you?”I ignored him. We were close to the entrance door and the paparazzi with their cameras could already see
