Logan’s POV

“Can I have one more piece of cake, Daddy?”

I smiled at Leo’s sweet face, smeared in icing, but shook my head.

“That’s up to, Mommy,” I told him. “It’s her birthday cake. What do you think, Willow? Can he have…”

My voice trailed off as I realized that Willow wasn’t there.

“Did she go to the bathroom?” I asked.

Beatrice shrugged. “I don’t know,” she replied. “I actually don’t know how long she’s been gone. We were so engaged in our conversation.”

“Mommy left a while ago,” Leo said, reaching for the cake.

“She did?” I asked, confused. I wondered how long ‘a while’ was. How had I not noticed that Willow was gone?

“Did I upset her?” Beatrice asked, a look of concern on her face. “With our request? I didn’t mean to.”

I smiled at Beatrice. It was so sweet of her to be concerned about Willow.

“Maybe we should just drop it. I mean, the last thing I want to do is upset my sister. We can find another way.”

“Nonsense,” I told her, shaking my head. “Willow is just sulking. She’ll get over it. She’ll realize that this is best for everyone. She’s just jealous because you’re going to get a new child and she’s not. Don’t worry about it.”

I placed my hand over Beatrice’s and gave it a little squeeze. I was doing my best to assure Beatrice that Willow would come around. Deep down, though, I was very disappointed in Willow.

Beatrice was trying to adopt a child. A helpless orphan who needed a mother. I admired her kindness and selfishness and I told her so.

Willow was just being stubborn.

In any case, it was late, much later than I realized. So I settled the bill and we all wandered outside.

“Thanks again for the flowers,” Beatrice smiled at me and looked up at me from under her thick, black lashes, her green eyes shining under the streetlights.

“My pleasure,” I said, keeping it casual.

While we waited for her Uber, Beatrice looked at me, a smirk tugging at the corner of her mouth.

“I still think about that kiss… back in college,” she said.

“Yeah… that kiss was… um…” I stammered, caught off guard.

She bent down slightly to Leo. “Next time, Auntie will take you to the amusement park,” she said, brushing his shoulder.

As she leaned forward, I couldn’t help but notice a hint of cleavage peeking from her dress. My throat went dry for a second.

The Uber pulled up. Beatrice glanced over her shoulder, then nudged Zoe lightly. “Say goodbye to Uncle,” she prompted.

Zoe looked at me hesitantly, her small fingers clutching Beatrice’s hand. She wouldn’t speak.

“Maybe she’s just shy,” I said with a soft smile. “Kids can be a little afraid of strangers sometimes.”

“Thanks again for a lovely evening,” Beatrice said, sliding into the backseat with Zoe.

“You’re welcome,” I replied, closing the car door.

I felt unsettled all the way home, but I couldn’t put my finger on why.

Beatrice’s face kept flashing in my mind. That brief glimpse… the curve of her dress… the way she leaned over.

My dick betrayed me. I cursed under my breath and glanced down.

Leo was asleep in the back seat, his chest rising and falling with even breaths.

I shook my head, trying to shove the image away. What the hell was wrong with me?

Back at home, Willow still hadn’t returned. I put Leo to bed and then sat in the empty living room, waiting for Willow.

My mind wandered to the Willow I’d known before we got married. She’d been so vibrant, so full of life.

And so fucking sexy, I couldn’t get enough of her.

The Willow I knew now though was a far cry from the pre-marriage Willow. She never dressed up anymore. Hell, she hardly even wore makeup. All she talked about was boring housewife stuff, like how to incorporate kale into Leo’s food without him knowing, or the details of some stupid PTA meeting, or paint colors for the living room.

Eggshell or cream?

She’d deliberated over those two colors for a week.

What the hell did it matter? It was just paint. They were both white as far as I was concerned. Eggshell. White. Who cares?

My mind turned to Beatrice.

She was nothing like Willow. They were close in age, but Beatrice was still dazzling, still exciting, still put together. She took care of herself, wore high heels, got her hair done.

And Beatrice had a career. She understood how taxing it was to run a company. I was exhausted when I got home from work. Willow claimed that she was always exhausted too.

But from what?

Making cookies and grocery shopping? Choosing a stupid paint color for the walls was a far cry from making important, corporate decisions all day.

Beatrice got that.

Jesus, why did my mind keep wandering back to Beatrice?

Seeing Willow and Beatrice side by side tonight at the restaurant was jarring. Beatrice looked like she just stepped right off the cover of a fashion magazine.

And Willow?

She looked like she came straight from Leo’s soccer practice, threw on a frumpy dress, and smeared on some lip gloss. Where was the effort?

A strange mixture of emotions welled up inside of me. I didn’t know what to make of it. I could hear Leo upstairs playing on his iPad, even though I’d already put him to bed.

He knew he’d get away with it because Mom wasn’t around. He was probably secretly thrilled that Willow wasn’t home yet.

Honestly… it almost felt like this house didn’t even need Willow.

  • Ex and Son Beg, But I Never Turn Back   Chapter 560: I Do

Willow’s POVThe moment Luigi placed his hand in mine, I felt calm. I hadn’t been feeling so calm before that moment though. My nerves had started to get the better of me as I walked down the aisle. All eyes were on me, which only exacerbated the situation. What if I tripped? What if I messed up the vows? My mind had started to spin. I’d waited so long for this day, and I wanted everything to be perfect. But Luigi’s warm, strong hand in mine instantly calmed me. My mind flashed back to the first time I met him, out on the street that day, while Beatrice and Logan sat inside the restaurant at my birthday dinner. It was the first time we’d met Mira, who Beatrice had named Zoe at the time, claiming that she had found her at an orphanage. That was the night Logan asked for a divorce so he could marry Beatrice and help with her adoption of Mira (Zoe). What if that hadn’t happened? What if Logan had never asked for that divorce? What if I had never met Luigi? These thoughts swirled through

  • Ex and Son Beg, But I Never Turn Back   Chapter 559: Down the Aisle

Luigi’s POVThe moment I saw Willow, tears sprung to my eyes. She literally stopped my breath.Never, in the history of the earth, was there ever a bride more beautiful than my Willow. Her long, satin dress billowed out all around her legs, and the pink sash was a lovely accent. Her hair was pulled back into loose, cascading curls, with a blush pink veil framing her face. She stepped through the door, with my mother on her arm, and paused for a moment. The crowd gasped, everyone in awe of her beauty as her eyes panned the guests. It was hard to believe that this woman, this elegant, stunning, breath-taking bride was also the same woman who had survived a kidnapping, my prison sentence, multiple attacks on her company, and hardest of all (she claimed) the birth of twins.Willow was intending on restarting her company with Adonis in a few months once the twins were a bit older. They were going to pivot and add some teenage scents to their line. I had no doubts that she would be successfu

  • Ex and Son Beg, But I Never Turn Back   Chapter 558: Processional

Third Person POVLogan knew that Luigi was nervous and trying not to show it. Logan found it endearing, that after everything Willow and Luigi had been through, he was still nervous about marrying her. It was sweet really, Logan thought to himself as he made his way with Luigi down the petal-strewn aisle to the front of the crowd. The vineyard looked fantastic, with massive bouquets of flowers everywhere, their sweet scent thick in the air. The sky was perfectly blue without a cloud in sight and the sun was warm but not hot. Rows of chairs looked out over the vineyard where the Justice of the Peace was waiting. It was a small wedding, exactly what Willow had wanted. Logan couldn’t help but remember his own wedding to Willow, and the differences between the two weddings. Theirs had been huge, with more than 400 guests packed into an ornate ballroom at a prestigious hotel downtown. But looking back on it, Logan realized that it hadn’t really been Willow’s style. This wedding was much mo

  • Ex and Son Beg, But I Never Turn Back   Chapter 557: The Anxious Groom

Luigi’s POV“Is my tux okay?” I asked, inspecting my reflection in the mirror for a stray wrinkle.“Stop looking for something to be wrong,” Logan chuckled. “Everything is perfect.”“I hope so,” I told Logan. My traditional black tux with blush pink tie looked pretty flawless. As did Logan’s black suit with blush pink shirt.“You look really handsome,” Leo said from the chair he was sitting on. Turning to him, I flashed him a smile.“Thanks, buddy,” I said.Leo looked absolutely adorable, in a suit that matched his father’s. Leo was in that awkward phase between childhood and becoming a teenager. He was starting to show signs of puberty, with the odd pimple on his face. And there were a few times when we’d heard his voice crack. He still had a long way to go before puberty hit him full tilt though and I knew that Willow was trying to hold onto his childhood as long as she possibly could.Leo had decided to live with us in the United States when Logan moved to Italy with Sasha. It had b

One Year LaterWillow’s POVMy stomach was a bundle of nerves, although I had no idea why. Turning to the mirror, I glanced at Adonis in the reflection.“Do I look okay?” I asked, biting my lip.“No,” he replied, shaking his head. “You look better than okay. You look positively perfect.”My eyes scanned along my reflection. My floor length satin wedding dress was tied around the waist with a blush taffeta sash. The full skirt billowed out, accentuating my small waist. It hadn’t been easy to get my figure back after the birth of the twins, but as I gazed at my reflection, I had to admit that I’d done a pretty good job of getting my pre-pregnancy figure back. The dress was strapless and the diamond necklace around my neck glittered under the lights. The necklace had been a ‘push’ present from Luigi. He’d presented it to me right after I gave birth, and I had saved it for this very day…my wedding day.Adonis came up behind me with my veil in his hand. He placed it on my head and then smoo

  • Ex and Son Beg, But I Never Turn Back   Chapter 555: The Happiest Ending

Willow’s POVLuigi caught me by surprise when he dropped down on one knee. At first, I was confused. If I didn’t know better, I would think he was just about to propose. But that was silly. We were already engaged. We’d talked about having the wedding a few months after the twins were born.Looking down at him though, poised on one knee on that veranda with the elegant sky and ocean spread out before us, I saw that he was holding a velvet box.“Luigi?” I chuckled. “What are you doing?”When Luigi told me we were going to the Bahamas, I pulled out my suitcase so fast it made him laugh out loud. It wasn’t that I didn’t love being with the kids, and Ava, and Logan and Sasha and Adonis and Jay…it was just that Luigi and I were finally back together and we couldn’t seem to find any alone time.So three nights in a private villa on a white sand beach sounded positively magical to me.And so far, it had been. It had been so perfect and magical. The villa was decadent, with its own private plu
