And to think, for a while, I thought he was better than Rodrigo. Carlos and I were in a relationship, and if it wasn't for the fact that he didn't want more children while I did, we might have remained together. But now all I could think of was how fortunate I was to have dodged a bullet.

"Someone here?" A voice caused me to quickly dry my eyes. Then she walked in; it was one of the lawyers. I believe she dealt with taxes or something. "Oh, I thought I heard someone. Ms. Sterling," she remarked.

"Hi." We hadn't spoken before, so I had no idea why she was suddenly speaking to me.

She approached the mirror, and I moved aside to allow her space. "I heard what happened.”

"Excuse me?"

“Mr. Carlos emailed everyone. He said he had to let you go because you were messing with a client."

"Oh." I did not expect him to make such an announcement.

"Yes, it is bad. Everyone is talking."

"At least they have something to talk about," I remarked, throwing away the tissue I'd used to wipe my tears.
