My first question would be how he found me, but that wasn’t important now. What mattered was what he was doing here and why he was lying to people, saying I was his fiancée.

Sure, he once proposed, but I turned him down even before we broke up—and I explained my reasons. So why the hell was he being so weird right now?

“Carlos?”

“You actually chose the right one, Ms. Sterling. And for me to think for a second that you were flirting with me…” Pablo chuckled.

“Oh, you know him?”

“Yes, he handles our branch legal issues in Chicago. He’s also a good friend of Dad’s.”

“Trust me, she doesn’t need to know that,” Carlos said, still acting so normal, like he didn’t threaten to sue me just last night. Maybe that was why he was here. Sighing, I walked straight toward the door without saying goodbye to Pablo or Rodrigo.

I walked directly to my car, and Carlos came running. But before he could catch up, the door was closed and the guards were already inside, starting the car.

Yes, the man standing in front of me, the one who's supposed to be the donor, was Carlos. The Carlos who was suing me for twenty million.“Mr. Carlos, this is Ms. Valentina. Ms. Valentina, Mr. Carlos,” the doctor introduced us, and Carlos tried to play the game, bringing out his hand for a handshake.“A pleasure to meet you, Ms. Valentina,” he said, and of course, I didn’t take it.“Ms. Valentina, is there a problem?” the doctor asked, and Carlos played dumb as he looked at me with a brow raised. It usually made others in my place uncomfortable, but I wasn’t the one, so I spoke up.“Carlos is my ex-boyfriend.”“W-wow. Alright, I'm… sorry for the mix-up, I…” The doctor started searching for documents on her desk. I could tell she was just trying to calm down.“It’s not your fault, Doctor. He knew what he was doing,” I said, and the doctor looked confused.“How could he know you were opting for this?”“The reason we broke up is because he didn’t want any more children. Now, as my medica

I honestly didn’t know what to say. Yes, Mrs. Roberts had always been supportive of me, but there was also a time she didn’t believe me—the time she chose Anthony over me. So I didn’t know whether to believe her now or not.“I never lie, you know that,” she said, seeing I was hesitant. And yes, she never lies. She always tells the truth.“That’s why I’m not sure whether to believe you now or not.”“You have your reasons for returning with a new identity. I know that it’s to make my son and grandson pay, and of course the Wilsons too. And I’m in. I’m going to help you.”“Alright, I…” I rubbed my palms together. “I’m Valeria.”“Oh, I knew that, honey. I’m not stupid to fall for the lookalike dumb.”“Okay. And no, I’m not here for revenge.”“What? Then why are you—”“To find my mother.” I just had to be honest. “My birth mother. I want to find her.”“Oh. I didn’t expect that. But good. While you’re doing that, I’ll be getting revenge.”“Mrs. Roberts, thank you so—”“Oh, you’re welcome. Y

There was silence for a moment. No one said anything, and Maggie seemed to grow more uncomfortable, which I knew was because of Anthony being here too.“Alright, Mom, can we go now?” Rodrigo asked–finally breaking the silence. Wow, now I was convinced he truly believed I wasn't Valeria. If he did, he would've wanted his mom to stay longer and have a closer look at me, since I used to spend most of my time with her.“What? No, we came here to say hi and introduce ourselves, and that's what we're going to do,” she said, shocking me, but I still managed to fake a smile.“It's nice to see you.”“Nice to see you too, Mrs. Sterling.”“Oh, thank you. I didn’t think you knew my name,” I said, extending my hand for a handshake.“You're all over the news. Governor Ramona spoke about you. Well, I didn’t know you had a daughter.”“Oh yes, I do, but we have to go now...” I quickly stood up. “It was nice to meet you.”“Oh no, we're the ones leaving. You can stay, Ms. Sterling,” Rodrigo said, but Ma

One thing I always loved about Millie was that she talked way too much and knew exactly how to clear tension. She dismissed the awkwardness by making a joke, then led us right in.“May I sit next to your wife, Miles? If that's okay,” Pablo asked, and after a look at Millie, Miles agreed.“Great location. How long have your wife and you stayed here?” I asked, trying to make conversation while at the same time stealing glances at Pablo, hoping to find any resemblance.“Let me say ten years now. She chose it. She loves being in town, and this was the best place we found,” Miles responded, and Millie nodded.“Well…” Miles stood up. “I know we’re all busy, so let’s get to the dining room and we’ll share the news.”“Of course. Um, before that, Mr. Pablo, can I speak to you please?” This was what I came for, and I had no games to play. Pablo looked at Millie, like he was asking for permission honestly, and she gave a smile and nodded. Then he turned to me.“Sure, but I hope it’s not business

V A L E R I AI had just met with Millie and Miles. They invited me to dinner, and since I heard about Pablo, I agreed—but now I was rushing to pick Maggie up before things got out of hand.“So you're saying magically it happened and they invited you to dinner?”“I mean, I have business with her husband, so it makes sense.”“No, something is not right here. They can't just invite you to dinner and agree to bring Pablo after talking about it.”“Trust me, Presley. I think this is just life working in my favor.”“Better hope, but for safety, I will come with you.”“What? No, I was the only one invited. You coming will make it suspicious.”“Better safe. I'll just act as if I'm your guard.”“Valentina doesn't walk around with guards. Besides, if I wanted a guard, I would have gone with the two statues that stand in front of my office.” I glanced at the mirror as I reversed the car. “I'm good. If anything, I will let you know.” I said, now parking as I spotted Maggie from a distance.“Alrig
