One thing I always loved about Millie was that she talked way too much and knew exactly how to clear tension. She dismissed the awkwardness by making a joke, then led us right in.

“May I sit next to your wife, Miles? If that's okay,” Pablo asked, and after a look at Millie, Miles agreed.

“Great location. How long have your wife and you stayed here?” I asked, trying to make conversation while at the same time stealing glances at Pablo, hoping to find any resemblance.

“Let me say ten years now. She chose it. She loves being in town, and this was the best place we found,” Miles responded, and Millie nodded.

“Well…” Miles stood up. “I know we’re all busy, so let’s get to the dining room and we’ll share the news.”

“Of course. Um, before that, Mr. Pablo, can I speak to you please?” This was what I came for, and I had no games to play. Pablo looked at Millie, like he was asking for permission honestly, and she gave a smile and nodded. Then he turned to me.

“Sure, but I hope it’s not business

V A L E R I AI had just met with Millie and Miles. They invited me to dinner, and since I heard about Pablo, I agreed—but now I was rushing to pick Maggie up before things got out of hand.“So you're saying magically it happened and they invited you to dinner?”“I mean, I have business with her husband, so it makes sense.”“No, something is not right here. They can't just invite you to dinner and agree to bring Pablo after talking about it.”“Trust me, Presley. I think this is just life working in my favor.”“Better hope, but for safety, I will come with you.”“What? No, I was the only one invited. You coming will make it suspicious.”“Better safe. I'll just act as if I'm your guard.”“Valentina doesn't walk around with guards. Besides, if I wanted a guard, I would have gone with the two statues that stand in front of my office.” I glanced at the mirror as I reversed the car. “I'm good. If anything, I will let you know.” I said, now parking as I spotted Maggie from a distance.“Alrig

Both Miles and Millie stared intently as they zoomed in on the photo.“That’s what I said when I heard her voice at the party. I even traveled to Chicago,” I recalled. “But I was wrong. She’s not Valeria, she’s Valentina.”“I know my best friend. This is Valeria,” Millie insisted, zooming in closer on the face. “The mole, the hair, the nose, the face structure. This is my friend. She only dyed her hair and possibly faked the mole.”“She told me she’s a natural blonde and dyes her hair white. If you look closely, you can see the blonde showing.” I said, and Millie nodded, still unconvinced.“Even if it’s her, what’s your plan? Or have you forgotten how you left her in the hospital? Man, what’s going on up there? Are you even thinking?”“What does that even mean?”“I asked Russell. You asked him to lie to Ms Sterling about a clause that didn’t even exist. How do you think you’ll win her with lies?”“I wanted to spend time with her.”“And you’ve never heard of a date? I mean, we’re in At

R O D R I G O“Ms Sterling?” I closed my car door and turned to Valentina, who was chasing after me.I had to hide the smile that threatened to appear on my lips. Did she forget to give me a kiss? Maybe she thought it would make me work faster. Not that I needed it—I was already eager to get things moving so I could drop by her place and spend more time with her and her daughter.“Is there a problem?” I asked, wondering if Russell had called her to hurry the loan process. If he did, I would reward him.“No, quite the opposite. Turns out I will not be needing the loan anymore.”“What?” Damn that Russell.“Yes, a client liked my service and decided to invest.”“Oh.” I tried not to show disappointment. Honestly, I wasn’t sure I was doing a good job, “So you... you won’t need the loan anymore?” I chuckled nervously, scratching my head.“Yes, and I truly appreciate your willingness to help.” She gave me a wide smile that made me inwardly curse whoever the investor was. I should track them

I mean, sure, Millie was into books. I even remember meeting Pablo at that event when he bought their company. But she was very married and—oh God, now it made sense.Remember when Aaliyah first came here, how she was ranting about Millie being married and then having a boyfriend and Miles being okay with it? Well, I didn't really pay attention, but now it made sense.“I see. But she doesn't speak to me anymore. In fact, I wouldn't want to speak to her too…” I remembered how she didn't believe me and sided with Aaliyah. “This still takes us nowhere.”“You might think that, but your half-sister—she's the one who can take us there.”“What do you mean?”“She doesn't know who you truly are.”“I see. So you searched me.”"Of course I had to. Well, I know for a fact that your half-sister is gullible, so we can use her to get to Pablo. We’ll have to do it carefully, but we’ll get there.”“Great. Although I don't see how.”“You just have to trust me.”“And I do. Alright, come up with a plan a

The Evans was one of the top family businesses not only in Atlanta but in all of the United States. Not only did they primarily deal with telecommunications, but they also had several subsidiaries and investments in other ventures—and they were successful, even more successful than my father's real estate group. It was nearly impossible to meet Pablo. The only time I ever saw him was when he bought a publishing firm Millie worked for. Back then, Millie was my friend, so I attended to support her. But even then, I didn’t get a chance to speak to him.“But there's bad news,” Presley said, and I looked at her to show I was listening. “You have to be sent by the angels to even get his assistant to pick up your call.”“So what you’re saying is…?”“It’s impossible to meet him. Even his home address isn’t visible on his personal website. The whole world doesn’t know where he lives. And as for his family, only his dad has been seen. His mother, who is your mother, and other relatives are comp
