I couldn't believe my ears and what my eyes were witnessing, but I didn't want to be over the top when a lot was already going on in my life, so I cleared my throat to get their attention, and it worked.

"Honey, you're home, welcome," Carlos said, sparing me just about a glance as his eyes fell back on the TV.

"Val, how are you?" Rodrigo sipped his beer before standing up.

"I… I thought you were sober?" I asked, as that's what I'd heard from Mrs. Roberts.

"Oh yes, it's just beer, your…" he cleared his throat. "Fiancé insisted. I came to see Parker and hoped for a proper introduction, but well, she was napping."

"And I couldn't wake her. That's what you always said—two hours of her nap," Carlos said, his eyes still fixed on the screen.
