I don’t know how long I had been like this, crying, but it seemed like over an hour.

It was hard to stop when Mom kept rubbing my back, apologizing, and asking me to let it all out.

Finally, I was done. I sat upright, took the tissue Pablo handed me, and wiped my tears.

“So you’re telling me I have a little brother?” I asked, still not believing it.

“You’re just two years older than me, so not really.” Pablo chuckled, and so did Mom and I. Then the doctor came in, and I stood up so he could check her.

“Alright,” he said after checking her. “Like we told you before,” he turned to Pablo, “she was never sick. Just the shock and stress, or let’s say guilt, put her in that state.”

“That’s why she woke up when she heard her voice, because she used it as an opportunity to clear her guilt,” Pablo said, and the doctor nodded.

“However, she has been dormant for years. Not moving, not doing normal human activities. Although we haven’t found any complications yet, they might show up later, so be

I took a moment, thinking for a second as I was sure I was hearing things. Gosh, I really needed to get back in therapy because this was getting out of hand.“You have to get him back. This wedding must take place,” Aaliyah said again.“Mrs Roberts, I think—”“No!” She shouted, making me stop. I raised my hands in the air as she pointed a finger at me, her stiletto nails very sharp. “We are going to find my groom.”“It’s over, Mrs Roberts. He doesn’t want to marry me.”“What did you do?”“Why do you think I did something?”“I mean, he looked like he loved you. Ms Sterling, sorry, Valentina—” Well, seemed the news of my identity hadn’t reached her yet. “You have to find another groom. You have to be married.”“I’m sorry, why are you so obsessed with me getting married?” I asked.“Because you look like my stupid sister, and I’m afraid if you remain single my husband will leave me for you.” She blurted it out and immediately covered her mouth. “Oh my God, did I just say that out loud?” S

“Ms Sterling? Can I let Mrs Roberts in?” the lobby man asked on the other end of the line.“Yes, please and thank you,” I replied. I placed the landline back on its base, then turned to Maggie and Parker. “Girls, I need you to give me the room for a little while.”“Why, Mommy? Is it Daddy?” Parker asked, nosey as always, her little eyes peering into mine with curiosity.I shook my head with a smile. “No, sweetheart, it’s business. It won’t take long, I promise. Besides, we have to get ready. We have a place to be.” Pablo had already said he was picking me up soon, and yes, I was considering moving into the Evans mansion, like Mom had requested.“Alright, Aunt, we’ll be in the room.” Maggie stood up and reached for Parker’s hand, but Parker refused to give it.“Honey,” I warned softly.“Promise you’ll take us on a date,” Parker said, always negotiating, her stubborn little chin held high.“Even better,” I teased, “you’ll have chocolate cake.”“Oh, don’t fool me, Ms Sterling. I’m big no

The days of Madeline scaring me felt like they were finally behind me. I had grown stronger, more resilient than ever.No longer the timid, hurt little girl who craved a father’s attention. And yet, seeing her here, so bold, so familiar, stirred something in me. An old fear mingled with a new, unshakable strength.“You called me Madison?” she said, her voice laced with confusion.“Yeah,” I replied, maintaining my composure. “I’m sorry, it's Mrs. Wilson, right?”Her eyes narrowed, a smirk forming on her lips. “Oh, I see what you’re doing, pretending to forget my name so I won’t figure out who you are.” Well, she was sharp. Too sharp.“I’m sorry, I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I said, keeping my tone casual. Of course, I called her Madison on purpose, this was part of the act.“I’m no fool, Valeria. I know it’s you,” she insisted, scanning my face like she could see through the decades of change.I glanced around; the lobby man was buried in his computer. Obviously there was n

Mom’s voice echoed in my head, and I could hear Millie join in, welcoming Theo into the family, which was strange considering she wasn’t actually a part of this family. After all, she was married to Miles and expecting his baby. The whole situation felt surreal, almost like I was watching a scene in a movie I didn’t audition for.I took a deep breath, trying to steady myself before speaking. “You’ve got it wrong,” I said firmly.“It’s okay, baby. Mom gave us permission,” Theo said calmly. I turned to look at him, stunned. His expression was calm, almost eerily serious, and that’s when a flicker of doubt hit me. Maybe he was mental.“What are we celebrating?” Pablo’s voice cut through my thoughts as he walked over to Millie, kissed her hands, and then sat beside her.“He just proposed,” Mom said brightly, practically glowing with excitement.“Who?” Pablo asked, slightly confused.“Theo. He asked for her hand. Well, same thing, huh?” Mom’s face was radiant. “I have a wedding to plan.”“

After that night in Paris when I had sex with Theo and he became awfully obsessed, I thought it was just a phase, that he was not used to rejection, but for him to follow me here? Now this was insane.I blocked the entrance and asked what he was doing here.“I swear it’s not what it looks like.” He said as he reached into his pockets.“Okay, I’m done playing this game, Theo. I’m calling the police.”“Trust me, I didn’t follow you here.”“Then explain your arrival at my doorstep.”“A friend. Oh, there he is.” He pointed behind me and when I turned my head I saw Pablo rushing over.“Sister, I can see you’ve met Theo.”“Theo?” I was confused. “I’m sorry, you two know each other?”“Yes, sis, he’s my friend. Please come in. Theo, this is my sister, but I can tell you know her already.” Pablo let Theo inside while I chuckled in disbelief.“Oh yes, I’ve met your sister. She’s the one who handled my divorce.” Theo answered as they walked to the dining room, chatting easily. I shook my head be

I cleared my throat and walked in, the question obvious on my face.“Sit down,” he said. And I don’t know why, but I listened. I sat and watched him take his seat too, before he spoke, starting with a sorry—an apology that, if you ask me, meant nothing to me.“I know I can’t undo the past.”“Yes, you can’t. Now stop wasting your time apologizing when your precious family is waiting for you.”“You are my family.”“Oh, so serving you was part of the job as your family?”“I made a mistake.”“No, Oscar. You made mistakes. It wasn’t one, it was a million. And to think I’ll forgive you just because you’re sorry is pathetic.” I sounded like a little girl, but really, he didn’t deserve forgiveness. My painful marriage to Rodrigo, what Aaliyah and Madeline did to me—all of it happened because of him.If he could have stood up for me and protected me like a father should, this all wouldn’t have happened.“Now, if this was all that brought you here, then you’re done. Leave.”“Val—”“Don’t say my
