ADRIANO.

THE DAY COULD have started any other way for Adriano. Maybe he would have woken up thinking back on Nana’s words, probably regretting his actions on sleeping with Avery and how it could possibly affect Iris, but no.

No, Adriano woke up with a smile on his face and the thoughts of wedding bells in his mind.

How great would it be, he thought, to propose to Avery?

That night with her was no mistake. He couldn’t see it as one when her face was the first image that came to his mind every morning, and the last before sleep claimed him. Avery Quinn. She had come into his life for Iris, but somewhere along the line she had claimed a piece of him too. He was not a man who believed in chance, but with her, he had stopped questioning.

Adriano pulled himself out of bed, his bare feet hitting the cold marble. Sunlight was barely spilling through the curtains, muted and soft. It was a weekend. No boardroom. No suit. No mergers or men in ties calling him “sir” every second of t

AVERYI SLEPT THROUGH my alarm the next morning. When I woke up, the sun rays were flooding into my room. I glanced at the bedside clock and I saw that i was really late.Yawning and grateful that I did not have any clients this morning, so I did not have any reason to rush myself to the office. I turned on the coffee maker and went to the bathroom to wash up.I picked up my phone. Adriano had called me numerous times while I slept. It must be the time difference between here and Italy, he did not know that I was in bed. I made a mental note to call him after I took my bath.A few minutes later, i came out. A towel was wrapped around my hair and another was draped across my chest. I dialed his number, it was answered on the first ring."Avery," he said in a soft grunt."I was asleep when you called," I explained. He snorted. "I wanted to hear your voice."I smiled, inspite of how I wanted to feel angry at him. "How's Italy?" I asked. He kept silent for some seconds, then he replied, "

AVERYMY BLOOD FROZE. I dropped my fork and stared at Nana. Her face was serious as she nodded."I thought that was all a rumour," I whispered. "That he is affiliated with the mafia.""Almost all rumour has a bit of truth in it," she replied. "It is not my story to tell, and I know he has left that life behind since he left Italy.""So why did he go back now?" I asked, speaking more to myself than to Nana, but she answered anyway."The Mafia has a way of drawing one back into their fold," she said.If Adriano were really a mafia member, they would not have let him go free all these years. My appetite was suddenly gone, so I pushed my plate aside."I am sure he will tell you everything when he comes back," Nana tried to ease my mind, but it was not working.Did I just get engaged to a mafia? I wondered. Does that make me a mafia too?"You must not trouble yourself over it," Nana said. She poured some orange juice into an iced cup and pushed it to me. "Thank you, Nana," I replied, stan

AVERYAFTER JEAN AND his son left the office, I prepared to leave too, as Kelvin was my last client for the day. These days, I do not have as many sessions as I normally did; most of my clients were healing and moving on. It made me glad that my work was having an effect.I tidied my desk, packed my laptop and locked the doors behind me. My phone rang as I got into my car. It was Emily. I'm sure she had something to complain about the planning of her wedding. I wished that I could be there for her, but I found myself always busy.I sighed and answered the call. "Hello?""Avery, you would not believe what has just happened," her groaning voice blasted from my car's speaker."Tell me," I answered, slowly driving away. "I just left my office. I have time to talk.""Are you coming over?" She asked.I shook my head and replied. "I had plans to stop by Adriano's mansion. He is out of the country. I need to check on Iris." Speaking of it reminded me of my anger for Adriano. How could he just

AVERY“YOU CAN WAIT out here, Mr. Jean,“ I said, gesturing to my waiting room. He looked troubled, his eyes went to his son, and then back to me. There was a look that i could not decipher in his eyes as he gave me a curt nod.“This should not be long,“ i said. “Come with me, Kevin” I guided the young child into my office. As soon as we were alone, i sat down on the couch and gestured to him to sit down beside me. He sat without saying a word. His eyes were dull and his skin was pale as he looked around the room, but he did not meet my eye. What could really be wrong with this child? I asked myself again.Over the past few years that i had resumed by career, i had come across a lot of things.“My name is Avery,“ I said in a gentle voice. “Your father said your name is Kelvin. Is that correct?“He looked at me blandly and nodded slowly.“Is there anything you want to tell me?“ I asked him. I was trying to see if there was any underlying trauma that might be affecting him.He shook his

ADRIANOFABIO PLACED A jug of beer on the table and sat down beside Adriano. "You should go and have a word wirh Father." He said. "I know you are stubborn and you are not going to leave your fiance for anything, but still... talk to my father about it. I am sure he will understand.""Will he?" Adriano raised an eyebrow.Fabio nodded. "Definitely."Adriano scoffed. He drank the beer and sighed, leaning back, relaxed. "I never wanted my daughter or fiance to get involved with my past life."Fabio chuckled. "Trust me, I understand that.""But Mira -""Mira is the daughter of one of the most ruthless drug lords in Slavian country," Fabio said. "She got the ruthlessness from him. Don't be deceived by her flowery dress and soft voice, she can handle a gun better than both of us."Adriano looked at Mira as she wiped the counter with a wet napkin."Do you guys need cookies?" She looked up. "I made a fresh batch.""Yes, honey," Fabio answered."I was not talking to you, husband," she muttered

ADRIANO"I NEVER EXPECTED you to get married," Adriano said as they walked out the dining hall and made their way to the back of the mansion. "Much less you have a family of your own, and a daughter."Fabio chuckled. "I never expected it too, but well, it happened."Adriank snorted. He understood that very well. "And why didn't you marry from a much closer family?" He asked, turning to look at Fabio. "You could have married into the Valerion family, just as your father had planned for me.""Well, to be fair, the girl has changed from being ugly," Fabio replied. "I think she went to do some sort of surgery. She has changed. She looks exactly like your type now."Adriano scoffed and muttered under his breath. "I doubt."It was clear that the girl that Salvatore had wanted him to marry was no different from Clarance, and Laura. All snobby, pretty-face with a banging body, but mean and evil hearted. "I doubt she is my type.""Oh really?" Fabio raised an eyebrow. "What is your doctor fian
