WITHOUT HESITATING FOR a second, Adriano growled under his breath and went after Clarance. He caught her near the stairs and pulled her to the side, his grip firm on her arm.

“Oops,” Clarance said with a mischievous smile, not the least bit startled as her back pressed against the wall.

“What did you do, Clarance?” Adriano asked in a low and dangerous voice.

“Oh, hello darling,” she whined in that falsely sweet tone that once used to soften him. “I didn’t know you would be here. What a pleasant surprise.” She arched her back deliberately, pressing closer so her belly rubbed against his crotch.

“Don’t play games with me!” Adriano snarled, slamming his hand against the wall by her head. The sound cracked through the corridor. He leaned in close, his eyes sharp with fury. “I don’t know what you think you’re doing, but I suggest you stop before you hurt yourself.”
