One week laterBriella sat on the couch trying to lose the ribbon wrapped around a large box. Hayden’s handwriting was on a small card and it read.. For the most beautiful baby girl. And for a second she almost laughed because she hasn't even started shopping for her baby. He had said he was getting something for her baby, she didn't know he was actually serious. They’d been talking since the mess with Hilda. Just casual conversations and nothing too deep. Even though his answer when she asked if he would want to be with a woman who was carrying another man's child was that he didn't care if the child wasn't his and all that matters is that she just accepted him.Briella was suprised at his answer but she had told him flat out that they could only be friends. That night, Hayden was hurt and heartbroken but he didn’t argue, he told her he wouldn’t stop loving her the way she deserved, whether she let him or not.Briella snapped out of her thought as she continued to peel the back of

“I just figured it out… so it's really true?“ Briella replied.Brian brushed it off with a faint smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes.“Don’t worry about me,” he said. “I’ll handle it.”Briella tilted her head, studying him. “Brian… that’s all you ever say. I’ll handle it. But you’re not fine, and we both know it.”He avoided her gaze.“Look at me,” she pressed gently. “We’ve known each other too long for you to shut me out. You say you’re handling it, but the weight’s still in your eyes. Talk to me... how are you going to.. your parents are insisting you marry her and her parents too.. From all these, it seems she likes you.”For a moment, Brian’s expression changed, like he was fighting words he couldn’t bring himself to release. Finally, he let out a long, uneven breath.“I wish things were different,” he said softly. “That’s all.”The room seemed to still.“Different how?” Briella whispered. His eyes moved up to hers, he wanted to confess his feelings right there and then but he

She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Then before her courage could vanish, she pressed the call button. The phone rang once, twice and thrice. Her pulse increased, each second heavier than the last. If he didn’t answer, maybe it would be easier. Maybe she could convince herself she had tried. On the fourth ring, the line clicked. Silence. Then his voice, low, rough and uncertain.“Briella…”Her throat tightened, tears threatening, but she steadied her voice.“Hayden?” she whispered.“I’m sorry Briella,” he said, his tone ragged and almost breaking. “I didn’t mean to drag you into the spotlight. I just wanted you to see I’d do anything to get you back. I really love you, and I can’t let go.”Her heart leapt and stumbled all at once. She had never been this speechless in her life.“You’re trending because of me,” Hayden continued, his words filled with guilt. “I know you hate the attention. You’ve always loved your privacy. Just… Please, don’t hate me more for this.”“Hayden.” He
