Prologue

"There comes the adulterous woman!" Roberta, Melissa's mother in-law said, folding her hand at Melissa who just walked in looking stressed and worn out.

Melissa didn't know where such degrading title was coming from or who it was referred to. Her eyes shifted between her mother in-law and her husband whose frown deepened at the sight of her.

"What is happening?" At that point, her eyes caught her boxes which were packed up at the corner. "Why's my bag outside?"

"Take your things and get out of my son's house" Roberta yelled. "You think your secret will be hidden for long? Nothing can be hidden under the sun for long"

Melissa gave her mother in-law a confused look. She was still trying to figure out what was going on. What could be up her mother in-laws sleeve. Mostly, her husband's silence was killing her. She knew all wasn't really well

"Can you clear me up, mother?" Melissa asked. When she was coming back from her night shift, she had planned on coming home to sleep and not to meet this drama.

"Here" Antonio, her husband, finally said something after being silent for so long. She looked at the papers he threw on her. She crouched down to pick one up.

"What's this?" She gasped when she turned the picture. "I don't understand"

"Of course you wouldn't!" Roberta scoffed, shaking her head at Melissa.

Melissa was struck by the content of the picture. The picture contained Gerald, her stepbrother and her in a compromising position. She crouched down to pick the next picture. There were pictures of them in a room, at a bar, at the entrance of a hotel.

"How could you do this to me?" Antonio spat at her. He was livid.

"Darling..." She started, wanting to explain herself.

"Oh please don't call me that." He said cutting her off. "I was busy being loyal while you were fucking my stepbrother behind my back?"

"No.. no" She shook her head, walking up to him. She knew it was all her mother in-laws doing. The woman hated her guts. They were clearly edited but her husband was being oblivious to that fact.

"Don't touch me! Stay away from me!" He yelled, making her stop her track.

Melissa shook my head at him. She has never thought of doing that in her 5 years courtship and 2 years marriage, neither would she think of staying away from him now.

"You even used your card to pay at the hotel where you guys lodged. You thought we wouldn't find out?" He continued, scoffing.

Melissa opened her mouth to say something - to defend herself but was interrupted.

"Night shift my ass! You fucking went to visit him didn't you?" He eyed her up and down, ignoring the tears that were now streaming down her eyes. He was heartbroken. He had been heartbroken ever since his mother brought back these evidence to him. His mother has never been one to lie to him and so he always believes her. Unknown to him that his mother is using one of the biggest lie to trap and control him.

"Melissa..." He sighed

Melissa eyes shot up at the tone he used to call her name. She had a gut feeling he was going to say what she wouldn't like

"You seize to be my wife. I want you to pack your things and get out of my house" Antonio growled, pointing at Melissa's bags.

On hearing this, Melissa fell to her knees. Antonio is the only man she has known all her life. He was her home. Where would she go? This can't be.

"Antonio please! You can't do this to us. I am carrying your child!" Melissa blurted out, thinking it'll snap him out of his senses

"You mean another man's child?" Roberta shot at her. She had began to panic, thinking her son would buy this. "Don't try to pin another man's child on my son"

"I'm not! I was going to break the news to you tonight. We did it, baby" Melissa smiled at Antonio, hoping he'll soften at this. They've both waited for this day. "Are you not happy?" She asked when she saw he still had a scowl on.

"I am not foolish. I AM NOT FUCKING FOOLISH!" He yelled, picking her up by her hand. "Get out of my house. I no longer love you. I have found a replacement for you and we will get married as soon as possible" He tossed her outside the house.

"Antonio please. Listen to me, I beg you. Where do you expect me to go from here? You know my parents... Just please" Melissa crawled to his feet once more, ignoring the bruise she had on her knee.

"Go to your fucking ... Oh here he comes!"

As if on cue, Gerald slammed his car door walking slowly into the scene with a confused look plastered on his face.

"What's happening - Fuck man" Gerald's sentence was shortened by the sudden collision of Antonio's fist in his jaw.

"How dare you?" Antonio gripped Gerald's shirt, tugging him close to him.

"I only fucking came here to give her back the jacket she dropped in my car this morning when I helped her back home on my way to work" Gerald said, pushing Antonio off him. He spat out blood from his mouth before cleaning his lips with the back of his palm.

"You're both funny" Antonio laughed, of course picking the wrong meaning to what Gerald had said. "You fucked my wife and now you're here to return her jacket, you mean!"

"What the fuck? You think your wife is that loose?" Gerald defended Melissa making her cry more that a stranger believed her more than her husband.

"Pick that trash up and get her out of my fucking house. She seize to be my fucking wife!" Antonio stomped inside and returned few minutes with my bag

"Gerald help me beg him" Melissa tugged at Gerald's cloth.

Gerald knew it was a lost cause and so he just picked Melissa up, dusting her knee.

"Yes, take her out. Despicable, adulterous woman" Antonio spat, shutting the door at our faces.

"No, no! Antonio wait please" Melissa wanted to run to the door but was held back by Gerald. "Let me go! I need to make him understand that I'm pregnant for him!"

On hearing that, Gerald heart broke for her. "He's not going to believe you. Let's go." Gerald said, pulling her away and locking her inside the car. Melissa struggled to get out. This wasn't happening to her.

Melissa shook her head at him, begging him to let her out. Gerald ignored her driving out of the compound with a new promise to keep her safe and happy no matter what.

"Shhh. He's going to regret it, trust me"

Melissa wanted to believe those words badly but she knew with his mother there to readily poison his mind, it wasn't possible.

Melisse went back over and over to the house she knew; the place she called 'home'; the one person she had ever only loved, hoping he'd be on her side, hoping it was a bad dark dream or better still, he was under the influence of black magic.

But thats wasn't the case. Her love story was over.

Antonio treated her way worse than she had expected. He publicly humiliated her. He acted like she was a disease. As if that wasn't enough, a new woman was now attached to his side

And she? Forgotten. Treated like she never existed.

The pain was too much to bear. She cried herself to sleep with little to no food. She had shut everyone out but one person - Gerald. He wouldn't leave her side.

The last straw broke when the blood of her unborn child dripped down her legs - her baby was gone.

"No. No, it can't be" She cried, clutching the shirt of the doctor. "At least let me bury my child" She begged.

That day, it wasn't just her child she was going to bury.

She was also going to bury her past and the Rodriguez we're going to pay deeply.

It was a promise.

Melissa's POVMaybe it wasn't the right thing to do but he was getting to me and I needed to set things straight. Yesterday, at the office. So many things happened but the sexual tension. It... It was strong. "Mummy, I'm going now with Aunty Claudia" When I introduced both of them to themselves, Tonia was more happy to meet someone else from her mother's past that was not a man.I trusted Claudia and I also had tracking device on my child's phone so I wasn't exactly scared one bit. Gerald agreed and I made sure she didn't come with her extra bodyguard into the compound. They can take that shit outside.I didn't want him to get suspicious."Claudia." I hugged her. "I need to get laid. Help me" "You need not tell me, Virgin." She laughed, patting my back. "I popped a child, Claudia." I rolled my eyes at her. "3 hours can do" I yelled."Thank you, Mummy" Tonia hugged me, placing a chaste kiss on my cheek before running to the car."Don't teach my child how to use a gun" I warned her

Melissa's POV"No." I shook my head If looks could kill, I'd be 6 feet under."I am not here on my own accord" She frowned. "When do you plan on leaving our life alone.""When I'm done ruining it" I smiled at Doris. "Welcome to my new office. Tea?" I stood up, walking up to the new Expresso machine I bought few days ago."I wouldn't take chances" She sneered, eyeing me."It was harmless though. I wouldn't leave any traces when I ruin you all. I'm smarter than that" I chuckled, picking my cup of Expresso. "I'd make it snappy" She said, struggling to utter whatever her true intentions were."I'm listening, Doris. I don't have all day, girl." I rolled my eyes. She casted an irritated look my way before muttering it out at a go "antonioandiadoptedachildandwehaveagreedtoreturnit"I looked at her, blinked once and then twice and burst into fits of laughter. She fumed with anger as she stared at me."I knew this was a bad idea" She turned away."Wait. Easyyyy. I didn't fucking hear a thin

Antonio's Pov"She's not picking my calls" Gerald groaned, ruffling his hair.I was the last person who could help him and he knew but maybe he had hope "I don't even think she'd want me to help find her" I told him, trying to stay focused on my laptop. I was suffering from a hangover and lack of sleep but I came to work, hoping I'd see her."Excuse us, Sir?" Two men with boxes came into the office. I raised my eyebrow at them. "We were asked by Mrs Melissa to get her things out of her office""Where is she?" Gerald quickly asked, looking at me like I'd ask same question. That wasn't my fucking concern right now. Melissa can't leave my office. This is the only way I protect her."Tell her to come pack herself" I told them, turning away."Yes. Yes." Gerald agreed. "Tell her to come now" He didn't know we had two different reasons and we weren't on the same page this time.Like we had ever been on the same page. "I'm sorry but I'd be involving the police if you stop us -""Involve w

Antonio's PovI didn't know how to feel after finding out that Melissa wasn't lying about our child dying.I always thought she was trying to hide the fact that Tonia was my child but it seemed as though I got it all wrong."It is not your child. He was mine and mine alone" She growled, standing up and shoving past me."Melissa" I called after her, following her out. "Melissa please, let's talk about it"She stopped abruptly, spinning around like a flash, I almost missed the turn. "Talk about it? Oh now you want to listen?""I..." "Don't fucking talk to me. I don't have anything to fucking tell you" She screamed at me. I deserved it."I'm sorry" I said softly, ashamed. She scoffed in disbelief, marching down back to the tombstone. Just "Rodriguez" was written on it. My heart broke into two as I dug my nails into my palm to feel the pain I was feeling in my chest."I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Your father is sorry. YOUR FATHER IS SORRY!!!!" She screamed. "Antonio, look!" She pointed, laughin

"Work with me. Together we can bring the Rodriguez down" She stared blankly at me.Acting innocent like it wasn't her plan. A mother who covered up her daughters dirty track."You think you can convince me to do such only because you caught my daughter getting laid since her damn impotent husband couldn't do that?" I was taken aback by her sudden anger. "I know what you're doing Mrs. Sinclair. I know why Doris is here. I also know why you brought in Hudson and why you're going to take him down without dragging too much attention to it" I folded my arms, smirking at her from where I sat.Apparently, she had invited me over for a meeting to tell me that she had handled whatever situation I met and Doris still stayed in the company but Hudson leaves and that she'd compensate me or whatever. But here was me negotiating for something better."What do you want?" Her glare hardened as she stared back at me. "Simple. I want you to join hands with me so we can control this company. I don'
