Chapter 1280

Author: Lean
If he had been one step ahead of Westley, would the outcome have been different...

As soon as he entered the ward, Westley tightly embraced her.

Jordan, however, couldn't return the hug, afraid of touching the wound on his back.

In truth, she also didn't want to hug him back.

She gently patted the back of his head and said, "You've crossed the line. Right now, I'm just the one you're pursuing. How can the pursuer hug the pursued before she even agrees to be with him? This already counts as harassment."

Westley chuckled, burying his laughter against her neck.

He just kept laughing without saying anything.

Jordan was rendered speechless.

She tried to break free from his embrace. When she couldn't, she resorted to threats.

"Don’t push your luck, Westley."

Westley let go of her.

Jordan stepped back to put some distance between them. "No more touching me."

Westley nodded.

Jordan pointed at the hospital bed.

Westley obediently lay down.

Jordan said, "Get some rest. I'll sleep

Janine turned her face away and said nothing.Zain swept his gaze across the room, and the onlookers quickly slipped away. His presence was too intimidating.Tanner glanced at Zain and said, "Go clean yourself up. I'll stay with her."Zain didn't leave and sat down nearby, two chairs away from Janine.Tanner went to hurry along the test results. After retrieving them, she brought the two of them to her office.Once she had reviewed all the reports, she looked at them both."What outcome are you hoping for?"Neither Janine nor Zain answered.Tanner stood up. "Well, since no one wants to know, then forget it. I'm quite busy. I won't be seeing you out."Zain immediately spoke up, "What's the result?"Tanner asked in return, "If she can't conceive, what do you plan to do about it?"Zain hadn't figured that out yet. All he could think of now was to stall for time.Once Janine got older and childbirth became riskier, he could use that to negotiate with the Chase family. He wou

She actually hadn't wanted things to reach this point."What exactly do you want, Zain? So I have no rights at all? You get to decide when we break up, and I have to obey when you want to get back together too?"Zain didn't want things to escalate into mutual destruction either, but with her, if she wasn't forced, she would always run."Go back to the room and get some rest. I'll take you to see Tanner in a couple of days."Lately, things had been hectic. Though he had seen Tanner, he hadn't had the chance to consult her about Janine's health.Since they were going to get married, then she should receive treatment."If Tanner says your condition is untreatable, I'll let you go."Janine had no choice but to stay.Zain turned to his own mother. "You should go take care of your matters too."Since he put it that way, Morgana didn't press further. She only said, "Don't be so harsh to a girl."‘No wonder she doesn't like you,’ she added inwardly. After Morgana left, Zain called s

She just gave up."Zain, can you be reasonable? It was wrong of me in the past, but I've already made up for it. You kept me tied up in that apartment for days—have you forgotten everything you did?"Zain pinned her hands down and easily stripped her.Janine was furious but completely powerless.Zain grabbed her legs and wrapped them around his lean waist, lowering himself as he said, "Janine, there's no way out. Save your energy—just make sure you moan properly later."Janine still couldn't escape.Even though she kept talking about liking younger guys and flirting with them, she never actually slept with any one of them. The only one she had ever slept with was Zain. And afterward, the only one she ever had relations with was also him.He knew her inside out.‘I hate it when my body’s being so honest!’ she cursed inwardly.Morgana worked quickly. She had already contacted Janine's parents—and learned about her infertility. The prepared wedding gifts weren't sent right aw

After all, he was the only heir of the family, and they all held him in the palm of their hands. The Chase family didn't dare say much, afraid he might do something extreme.Zain’s mother, Morgana Chase, said, "Then I'll prepare the wedding gifts. At the very least, we need to sit down and have a proper meal with the Thames family."Zain, though overbearing in speech with Janine, still understood etiquette."Mom, you handle the arrangements. Once everything's ready, let us know. I'll take Janine there myself."Morgana nodded. "Since you're back, let's have dinner at home."Janine wanted to run, but she also wanted to say something. But Zain didn't give her a chance. He pinned her down at the Chase family dining table."Everything that happened today was way too sudden," said Morgana, looking gently at Janine. "Tell me what you like to eat. I'll be better prepared next time."The Chase family members were all quite reasonable—how had Zain turned out so stubborn? He was the spo

Tanner smiled. "Oh that? You'll find out when you go to the bathroom."Zain was rendered speechless.Just thinking about it made him shudder all over. His skin crawled with imagined tiny red dots.Janine knew Zain was allergic to bugs—after all, back in the countryside, she had once scared him with insects. He had broken out in a full-body rash back then, too.But was expelling a bug really this hard to accept?"Tanner, stop scaring him. Just give him the medicine already."Tanner asked Janine, "Feeling sorry for him?"Janine mumbled, "An allergic reaction can be fatal. He's the Chase family's only heir. If anything happens to him, we might not make it out of Hesterfield alive.""That worried?"Tanner was a doctor, and one with a strong sense of ethics. If she was joking, it meant Zain's condition wasn't that serious. But Janine's reaction looked a bit like a stress response.Tanner asked again, "How do you know it's an allergic reaction, and not some other illness?"Jani

Janine grabbed her hair, completely frustrated. She snapped for a moment, grabbed his collar, and kissed him.Everything that followed happened naturally.Once he fell asleep, Janine endured her sore waist and got up to treat his wounds. She stayed up until morning, completely drained, and eventually fell asleep beside the bed. When she woke again, she found herself lying in bed. There was no one next to her, so she quickly got up to look around. She saw Zain walking over with a tray of food."You're awake—come eat."Janine stared at him. "You recognize me now?"Zain smiled. "How could I not recognize you, my ex-girlfriend."Janine was confused, but after the meal, she began to piece things together.Over the next two days, they slept together again.Janine was so exhausted she didn't watch him closely, but luckily, nothing went wrong. When they saw Tanner, she gave her a teasing smile."Looks like taking care of him has been pretty tiring, huh?"Janine was rendered spe
