The tension at dinner had long dissolved into hushed conversations and swirling glasses of wine.

Since Margaret and Raina broke the news, the dinner practically called it self off.

Mr. Kingston returned back to his study to ponder to himself.

For him, he wasn't even sure what to feel right now.

Grief, disappointment, anger, guilt or nothing…

Now, in one of the smaller lounges away from the main hall, Tris and Elise sat curled on the leather sofas, the flickering fireplace casting shadows across their faces. A bottle of red wine sat open on the table, half-finished.

Tris poured herself another glass, a smirk playing at the corners of her mouth.

“So, the prodigal idiot finally crashed,” she muttered, swirling the wine lazily. “I always said that temper would kill him one day. And guess I was right.”

Elise let out a low laugh, brushing her fingers through her sleek blonde hair.

“Fatal accident, internal bleeding, ICU... sounds dramatic. But maybe it’s poetic,” she said, crossing her legs

The silence in the hospital’s hallway was louder now.Raina sat again, the fury she felt at seeing Jessica was now gone, it was replaced by a that suffocating feeling of dread and helplessness.Jessica leaned against the wall, her arms folded but eyes nervously trained on the ICU doors. Margaret stood closest to them, unmoving, her posture unnaturally stiff. Then the doors creaked open.A doctor in blue scrubs stepped out, pulling down his surgical mask.Margaret was the first to move. “Doctor?”He nodded, his voice calm, clinical—but not without a human edge.“Okay, we've done our final checks for todayHe’s still stable for now. But still unconscious. The internal bleeding has been stopped and we managed to stabilize his vitals. However... he hasn’t woken up yet. It’s too early to say if there’s any brain trauma, but for now—he’s holding on.”Everyone exhaled at once, like they'd all been suffocating in silence.“You can go in. One at a time. But keep it brief.”He stepped aside.Ma

The concrete floor was cold against Blade’s palms, his arms straining with every push-up. He ignored the pain stabbing through his ribs with each dip of his torso. Pain had become a companion—familiar, predictable, even comforting in a twisted way. The bruises hadn’t fully healed from the last beating. His jaw still clicked when he chewed, and one eye swelled up every time he woke.Thirty-eight.Thirty-nine.Forty.The count kept him sane. The walls of the cell were gray and narrow, claustrophobic. There was no window, no clock, no mercy. Just steel and silence, broken only by the occasional grunt from another inmate or the distant echo of keys. Then came the heavy clank of the bolt turning.Blade paused mid-push-up, sweat dripping from his brow. He sat back on his heels, breathing hard. The door creaked open. A guard stepped in, face blank beneath his cap. “You’ve got a phone call.”Blade frowned. “Who?”The guard didn’t answer. He just jerked his head. “Let’s go.”Blade grabbed his

Everything was noise. The screams around, the sound of wheels clattering against the tile, the rapid footsteps, the overlapping orders barked through surgical masks, but none of it made sense to Aaron Kingston. The fluorescent lights overhead blurred into long streaks, smearing like white lightning against the black edges of his vision. He was cold. So cold. But his skin burned wherever it wasn’t numb.Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth, drying against his cheek. His chest rose in shallow, jagged gasps.“He’s crashing—get the crash cart!”“Pupils reacting—barely.”“Possible internal bleeding. Prep the OR now!”They were yelling over him, around him, above him.But their voices were distant to him, like they were in another world and far away, yet so close. His head lolled to the side as the trolley rattled, hitting a threshold on the way through the sliding emergency doors.A sharp wave of pain exploded through his ribs, making his fingers twitch. His hand tried to rise, mayb

Raina rushed out of the estate, the sound of her heels striking the marble steps echoing behind her. Aaron was already halfway down the driveway, shoulders tight with fury, his movements sharp and purposeful as he headed for his car.“Aaron!” she called, her voice laced with urgency. “Wait!”But he didn’t stop. He didn’t even look back.He reached the car, yanked the driver’s door open with a force that made it groan. Raina caught up just in time to grab the edge before he could shut it.“Would you just listen for a second?” she said breathlessly.Aaron finally looked up at her, his eyes blazing. That same fire that always came out when his father was involved—it lived under his skin like a second heartbeat.“What do you want me to say, Raina?” he bit out. “That I should’ve sat there and smiled while he dismissed everything like it was nothing?”“I’m saying there was a better way to handle it,” she said, trying to keep her voice even. “You walking out like that only proves him right,

The long dining table stretched like a battlefield lined with polished silverware and untouched crystal glasses.Everyone had taken their seats now, Raina sat beside Aaron, Margaret across from them, while Tris and Lucas sat together across the table. Elise took her place with effortless grace beside Mr. Kingston, who sat at the head of the table like a man trying to keep his kingdom from crumbling.“Bring in the food,” Mr. Kingston said with a clap of his hands. A maid quickly nodded and disappeared down the hall. But the scent of roasted lamb or vintage wine would do nothing to ease the frost lingering in the room.Aaron sat stiffly in his chair, jaw clenched, arms crossed. Not once did he look toward his father.Even as servants moved about pouring wine and setting down appetizers, Aaron’s expression remained the same, like a storm just waiting to be triggered.Elise was the first to take the bait.“Still as charming as ever, I see,” she said, breaking the brittle silence with a si
