Miriam's POV

I was still feeling a little bit spooked with what had happened at the elevator.

Today had to be the worse day for me. Worse than my supposed wedding day.

First I had an encounter with an idiot that made my head spin with anger and then those strange men who were following me in the elevator.

Or maybe I was just being paranoid.

But there was one person who was starting to piss me off, Lazar.

After he sent me a good night text last night I haven't heard from him all day. He just vanished like a ghost.

I walked into the bathroom and freshened up before making dinner and putting on a telenovela series I had been following for a while.

It's been quite some time since I felt this free and it was almost midnight.

Suddenly my phone buzzed beside me.

I was too engrossed in the very dramatic scene of where the female lead was seducing the male lead that I did not bother to see who it was.

Maybe I should be taking notes from the female leads she definitely has some game.

Then my phone buzzed again.

Reluctantly I grabbed it and saw that it was a text, from Lazar.

My heart skipped a bit, was he on his way back.

“Hey baby girl, I won't be able to come back home today or this week. I am going on a business trip.” His message read.

I stared at the message for a while dumbstruck.

He sends no apology for ghosting me all day and what carpenter goes on a business trip.

Now that I thought about it I don't even know the name of his company.

Lazar was behaving shady, and I hated shady men. Or could it be……

Could it be that he had a family outside and I was just his side chick.

I hate it, I hate that because of my pettiness I placed myself in this position.

Suddenly the sound of my door bell rang throght the room making me jerk up, surprised.

“Who was at my door by this time.” I muttered under my breath and decided to ignore it.

It could be a drunk person who just confused the apartment number, it happens sometimes.

But the door bell kept ringing.

“What the hell?” I muttered under my breath.

Pushing the soft blanket over my leg before waking to the door barefoot.

I look through the peephole and almost could not believe eyes.

What was this bitch doing at my apartment so late at night.

“I know you are in there and can hear me. Miriam open the door.” She yelled banging on the door repeatedly.

If not for that I felt pity for my neighbours and didn't want any complaints notice I would have left her out there and completely ignored her.

I pulled open the door and stood at the entrance blocking her from entering.

“Yes, how can I help you?” I asked, a scroll on my face as I stared at her.

Ever since her epic betrayal I haven't seen her and there was a reason for that.

“Now you are asking me questions outside the apartment. Get out of my way.” She pushed me and walked into my apartment like she owned it.

If it were in the past I would have brushed it off and bowed my head submissively, but not anymore.

I was no longer the naive sister who allowed herself to be trampled on by grateful bastards.

“If you don't get out of my house this minute, I will call the police and file a restraining order on you for harassment.” I warned but she stared at me like I was dumb and had just grown a clown head.

“Wow wow wow, look who is all gangsta. Threatening me with police and all. I know you are just jealous. You are jealous because William chose me and dumbed your sorry ass. That's why you are stalking him by working at la amore.” She said, her eyes sparking with animosity as she said the last sentence.

I almost could not stop myself from laughing at her outrageous claims.

I wonder if she and William were both on some hard drugs for them to think I was jealous of their sorry ass.

“I don't care about you and William’s relationship, as a matter of fact I really do wish you both the best. You scums deserve each other.” I spat.

“Miriam….”

“Now tell me what the hell you want and get out of my place.”

“Whatever. The card you gave me is no longer working and I know since you are now working at la amore your salary must be way bigger so increase the amount and rectify the card before tomorrow morning. I am going shopping.” She said, like she was ordering her maid or something.

I could almost not believe my ears. How could I have been so blind to their maltreatment.

I have always known that they never treated me well, I worked my ass off to make enough money to satisfy them but that only made all of them gluttons.

Because I wonder why someone like Janet will be so shameless to ask me for money, my hard earned money after everything she had put me through.

“Now I can truly confirm you are mentally unstable. I was stupid in the past but not anymore. Now get out of my place and I mean it if you come close to me I will call the cops on you.” I yelled pointing toward the door my body slightly shaking due to anger.

“How dare you shout at me?”

I have had enough. It's about time to put her in her place.

Without wasting any more time, I walked to her side, grabbed her by the neck and shoved her out of my apartment, watching as she fell to the ground like a used rag.

“Miriam are you crazy?” She asked, baffled by my boldness.

The old me would have never done this but enough is enough.

“Don’t you ever come to my apartment again.”

“I will make you pay….” I slammed the door shut before she could complete her sentence.

I was tired of the constant back and forth.

I already had a shitty day and it just got more shitty.

“Ughhhhh.” I groaned out loud into my palm.

I stared at the telenovela series which was still playing on the TV screen but I had no intention of watching it anymore.

I just want to disappear.

I can't believe with all this drama I still have work tomorrow.

“Arghhhh, somebody save me.”

I put off the TV and made my way to my bedroom, hoping to get a good sleep and forget about all this drama.

*****

“What are you doing here mom?” I asked, staring at my mother's very angry facial expression.

“I should be asking you that. You never listen do you.”

“Mom…I am sorry…I did not.” I stuttered my heart pounding in my chest.

Suddenly the sound of gunshot rang through air followed by a loud arrays of scream.

The apartment was under an attack.

“Mom, quick let's hide.” I tied to pull the table to the door but it was too heavy.

“Stay here. And don't move.” My mom said, shoving me into the hidden compartment of the closet but it could only fit one person.

“Where will you stay?” I asked, my heart pounding in my chest.

“I…I will stay under the bed.  Remember no matter what happens don't move.” she crawled underneath the bed and not too long after the sound of the front door crashing open filled the room.

They were inside the apartment.

I covered my mouth with my hand to muffle out my cries. The sound of heavy footsteps slowly made it's way to the bedroom until I could see them through the small peephole in the closet.

Suddenly the man reached under the bed and grabbed my mother.

I wanted to scream out but I remembered her warnings and kept my mouth shut, while tears streamed downy cheek.

“Elizabeth?” The man asked and my mother frantically nodded her head.

The man brought out a picture, and showed it to my mum.

“Do you know this person?” The gunman asked while his two other subordinates walked into the room.

They were heavily armed, one would think they were special forces,  but it was clear they were criminals.

I could not make out whose person's picture it was, but as soon as my mom nodded her head, affirming she knew the person in the picture.

The gun man pushed her to the ground.

And I witnessed the most horrifying scene ever.

I watched as they rained bullet on my mother executing her.

Once they were done, they walked out of the room, my mother's lifeless body on the ground while I remained frozen.

“Noooo.”

I jerked up only to find myself on my bed in my room, my heart pounding like crazy and my body soaked with sweat, my alarm ringing beside my bed.

It was a dream. A dream I haven't had for a very long time.

It was a scene that I had hoped would remain a dream and was not realistic but it had happened. I had witness my mother get killed by the mafia.

I hate the mafia, and once I have made enough money. I will make sure to find my mother's killers and end them.

Lazar's POV The meeting with Raneesh was just like I expected, he lied to me, making me seem like a fool.“You know Raneesh, one thing I hate the most aside from stealing is lies. Also I still haven't heard anything from my supposed husband.“So is your husband back from his trip?” Sara asked as she drove me back to my apartment.“Well not at all. And I haven't heard from him since he dropped that last text message.” I replied.“Well, it was quite a hurried marriage. As long as he has no idea about your wealth why don't you divorce him. Don't forget he was the one your father set you up with, he must be up to no good.” Sara replied.Speaking of my father, that bastard has also been harassing me all week.“Gosh… I can't seem to get a break from all these relationship drama. It was currently housing a lot of important people.Rodosov stepped out of the car and opened the door for me.I stepped out of the car, my boots crushing the dry gravel as I adjusted the cuff of my coat. It was quite windy. I took a quick glance around as my men bowed to welcome me even the guards of other families bowed in respect.Today was a very important day, I wasn’t here to make friends. I was here to make a statement. My guards opened the steel door for me and I descended the narrow stairs, my footsteps echoing in the silence.“A
