Chapter 3: Chapter Three: The Position of Mrs. Gu Must Still Be Guarded

Leonard Babbitt glanced at the divorce agreement, unmoved. He walked over to the sofa in the study, sat down, and asked nonchalantly, "What do you want to talk about?"

Rebecca Augustine furrowed her brow. Was he deliberately steering the conversation away from the topic of divorce? Leonard Babbitt had always spoken to her as if he were a superior addressing an underling, and no matter what she said, it felt like a subordinate reporting back. There had never been any semblance of a real marriage between them, not even for show.

Rebecca Augustine put aside her thoughts and began to recount, expressionless: "Three months ago, that Camille Chaplin, who went to the bar with you, claims she's pregnant."

She paused, then continued, "I gave her money to get an abortion. You should reimburse me."

A faint frown appeared on Leonard Babbitt's handsome, indifferent face. "Is that all?"

Rebecca Augustine's lips curved into a smile. "After all, it would have been your eighteenth child, a descendant of the Gu family."

But Leonard Babbitt responded indifferently, "I didn't touch her."

Rebecca Augustine was taken aback. Was he explaining himself to her? But then she realized it was probably just his irritation at being falsely accused. When the scandal broke out about Leonard Babbitt and the so-called top star, Rebecca Augustine had indeed seen the reports. The photos only showed Leonard Babbitt and Camille Chaplin drinking at a bar, surrounded by his usual group of friends.

Rebecca Augustine raised an eyebrow. "But she publicly declared that the child in her womb is yours and asked me to divorce you."

Leonard Babbitt, sitting with one leg crossed over the other, exuded a noble and elegant aura in his tight, dark shirt. "That will depend on your capabilities, Mrs. Gu."

He paused, then replied coolly, "You should know very well that no one but Ranran is worthy of bearing my children."

Rebecca Augustine instinctively clenched her fingers, finding it somewhat amusing. After so many years of marriage to Leonard Babbitt, she had almost forgotten this. Indeed, who else but Stacey Grantham could bear Leonard Babbitt's child? Even she, the supposed young lady of the Babbitt Group, had to step aside, let alone those women outside.

Everyone in the city called Leonard Babbitt a notorious playboy, flitting from one flower to another without ever getting caught. But no one knew that the seemingly carefree young master actually harbored feelings for someone, even going so far as to stand against his family for her. Sadly, the only woman qualified to bear his child couldn't do so.

Otherwise, she wouldn't be stuck in this sham of a marriage, playing house with Leonard Babbitt.

Rebecca Augustine took a deep breath and smiled. "Alright, second thing, we get a divorce."

Meeting Leonard Babbitt's cold, indifferent gaze, she continued, "When we got married, we made it clear that once Stacey Grantham returned, our marriage would end. Now that Stacey Grantham is back from abroad, our contract should be terminated."

But Leonard Babbitt fell silent, looking at the woman before him. This was the first time since their marriage that he had really looked at his wife.

Everyone said how beautiful and graceful Mrs. Gu was, even his notoriously picky mother was charmed by Rebecca Augustine. Over the years, Rebecca Augustine had efficiently dealt with all the other women.

After a moment, Leonard Babbitt spoke slowly, "The marriage continues. Whatever you want, just say it."

Rebecca Augustine looked at him in disbelief. "What do you mean?"

Stacey Grantham was already back, fully recovered. Shouldn't Leonard Babbitt be eager to marry her?

"My mother still can't accept Ranran, so the position of Mrs. Gu..."

He smiled elegantly. "I'll trouble Miss Han to continue holding this position for me."

Rebecca Augustine frowned, her face stern. "What if I say no?"

Leonard Babbitt stood up, pulled a stack of documents from the bookshelf behind him, and placed them on the desk. "A few days ago, your father asked for a five billion investment in your name. Perhaps Mrs. Gu should consider whether she can pay it back."
