Chapter 3

Author: Lunar Deer
My phone buzzed wildly in my pocket. I did not need to check the phone to know who was trying to call me. I ignored the call and turned off my phone.

"How about I give you a lift home?" Celeste looked at me worriedly.

"I'm not going home." I got into my car and replied simply, "I'm going to Justin's company."

Celeste was taken aback. "Now? What are you going to do there?"

"Now that I've caught them cheating on me, I need to settle everything once and for all." I looked out at the scenery flying past me and continued calmly, "He used my money on a mistress while we were engaged. I’m sure there are even worse things on the company accounts."

Celeste took a sharp breath while giving me a look of mixed emotions. "Are you going to do something to his company?!"

"He brought it on himself when he betrayed me." I smiled coldly. "I'll make sure he suffers."

The car sped toward Justin's company, and we arrived thirty minutes later.

Justin ran a small company. It just barely managed to afford the rent for an office in this building, mainly because of my help. It was late at night, but several offices in the building still had their lights on.

I had the codes to his office doors and had no trouble getting in. Justin's computer was still on, and the screen was on a messaging platform, which I started reading.

Justin: [I'll pretend to have too much to drink later and go out for some fresh air. After you're done having fun at the party, meet me in the garden. There’s a hidden pathway we can use.]

Callie: [Got it, buddy! Are you thinking white or black pantyhose tonight? Do you have a position in mind? I lost the bet, so I'll do anything you want tonight.]

They kept calling each other ‘buddy’ and talked about losing bets as if they were doing something legitimate, when the truth was they had just left evidence of cheating on me with each other.

I sneered. If I had not found out about it sooner, they would have spent another passionate night in the garden, and Justin would have returned to our bedroom after that to sleep with me.

Just thinking about it made me want to throw up.

I snapped out of it and inserted a flash drive into the computer. I started typing quickly on the keyboard, copying financial reports, real account ledgers, and tax evasion evidence onto the flash drive one by one.

These were just basic documents to me. It was not that I did not understand them, but I had trusted him, which was why I had been willing to let him take charge of everything. However, he had now proven himself unreliable.

When the copying was about 90% done, the office door was suddenly pushed open, and Justin appeared breathlessly at the door. His hair was a mess, and his eyes were red. It was clear that he had made a mad dash here.

Justin stared at the flash drive with a menacing look. "What are you doing, Elise? Put the flash drive down!"

How did he arrive so quickly? Who told him what I was doing? A thought quickly flashed in my mind, but I remained stoic as I put a halt to the copying.

"What am I doing?" I looked up at him and replied sarcastically, "I'm here to check on the company I invested in to find out just how much it’s been emptied by parasites."

"This is my company!" Justin roared as he lunged at the computer, trying to grab the flash drive.

Celeste shielded me behind her right away. "How dare you try to hurt her, Justin? Don't forget that I'm here to stop you!"

"Get out of the way!"

Justin pushed her, but his eyes never left the flash drive in my hand. The contents inside could ruin him for life.

There were not many guests at our engagement party, and most of them were close friends and family. No one would spread the scandal between him and Callie even if it were made public there, but he knew that whatever was in my hands now could not leave with me.

Justin's eyes turned red as he lunged forward to snatch the flash drive. "Give it to me, Elise. Otherwise, everything between us will be ruined, and I won't hold back against you."

"Everything between us?" It sounded like a joke to me. "Is there anything still between us? What's the point of you mentioning this to me? Your best buddy is still waiting for you to whisk her into a passionate embrace."

If it were not the fact that the transfer was stuck at 98%, I would never waste my breath on him. Even talking to him was disgusting.

Justin started to panic when he realized that I was stalling. He reached out to grab me, but I was ready for him. I took a quick step back and pulled the flash drive out of the computer in one quick move.

His hand grabbed the air, and he stumbled forward.

The copying was 100% complete!

I gripped the flash drive and looked at how disheveled he was coldly. "You're done for, Justin. You're finished."

Justin stood up, breathing heavily with a murderous look in his eye. He suddenly smiled sinisterly, as if he had suddenly thought of something. "Do you really think you've won, Elise?"

He slowly straightened up to tidy his collar, speaking in a weird tone. "Do you know why you've taken those birth control pills for a long time without realizing anything strange about them?"

My heart sank, and his smile became even wider. His malice toward me became even more obvious. "It's because the person who swapped your pills wasn't me. It's someone you could never guess."

"You wouldn't have won without Jack Grisham, Elise. You were just lucky."I smiled and said clearly into the phone, "Luck is a part of one's capability. Even if luck was on my side, Celeste, you're probably not worthy of having any. Enjoy the last of your days. I heard that prisoners take good care of backstabbers like you."When Celeste became enraged by what I said, I hung up and left the prison. The sun outside was shining brightly, and a black sedan quietly stopped beside me. When the windows rolled down, I saw Jack's stoic face."All done?"He sounded calm as usual."Yup. Thank you, Mr. Grisham. I know you said this was a transaction, but I'll remember what you did for me."Jack raised an eyebrow, but did not deny my words. In a rare moment, he elaborated further. "You don't need to thank me. Someone trusted asked for my help, and a loyal friend does not reject such a request."I could not hold back my curiosity. "Can you tell me now who exactly came to you for help? I'd li

I did not ask about what Justin had done specifically to annoy him, but my gut told me that it had nothing to do with me. It was the reason Jack got involved in this. I heard a police siren in the distance, and it sounded like it was coming closer.Jack glanced out the window. "Your men are pretty efficient, but my offer is still on the table before they arrive. "You can go public about me saving you by coincidence from being murdered by your fiancé and best friend. You almost lost your life, and I gave you help out because I’m a good Samaritan. My involvement in this would make sense and make it more convincing for you to fight back."He did not need to be any clearer about this, as I instantly understood the power of Jack's name. With his help and support, I could bring Justin down and make sure he could never come back. As for Jack, what he wanted was a legitimate reason to get involved. He might also be profiting from whatever was happening, but I had no idea how. To him, t

The phone rang for a long time before I heard Larry's calm and cautious voice on the other end of the call. "Hello?""Uncle Larry, it's me, Elise." I tried to hold back my sob. "I need your help right now."There were several seconds of silence on the other end, as Larry tried to determine my condition and if I really was who I said I was. "Elise? Where are you? Rumors are flying around out here—""I know what's going on out there," I interrupted him. "Did Justin spread rumors about me being mentally unstable because I suffered a huge shock?"Larry paused before sighing. "Yes, he did. He contacted several board members to tell them that you suffered a breakdown due to the mishap at your engagement party, and you might… You might do something to affect the company's reputation and revenue."He wanted us to talk you into going home to rest if we managed to contact you."I knew that he would take action to ruin my reputation first!"Uncle Larry, I have evidence of Justin embezzling

"Someone asked for your help?" I asked right away when I caught those words. I could not think of anyone who would help me, let alone go so far as to get this man's help at a time like this. Jack did not answer. All he did was turn the steering wheel and drive the car down a quiet road. We finally stopped in front of a hidden villa. "Get out of the car."He released his seatbelt, while I remained hesitant in my seat. The pain all over my body and my weak limbs did not allow me to think further, so I ended up following him out of the car. Every step I took felt like I was stepping on knives.Jack hesitated slightly before bending over to carry me in his arms. When we got into the house, he took out a first aid kit and placed it on the table in the living room. "You should tend to your wounds. The guest room is the second room on the left. There are new clothes and toiletries prepared inside."He left me alone after he finished his instructions. He headed to his study, looking like

Cold air filled my mouth and nostrils instantly, but I knew this was just the second floor. The next second, I fell heavily onto a soft patch of grass downstairs, but the fall was enough to hurt my insides. My body was covered in pain as the shards cut through my skin. I could hear Justin and Celeste cursing at me upstairs.I tried my best to stand despite the intense pain. I stepped onto the cold grass and broken glass in my bare feet to pick up the flash drive from the ground. After that, I stumbled my way toward the street. I knew I had to get out of there and hand the evidence to the police. I could hear Justin and Celeste dashing down the stairs while yelling angrily. My heart drummed in my chest as I ran with all my might. Every breath I took tasted like blood, and when I finally dashed out of the commercial district of the building and arrived at the road, blinding car lights suddenly shone on me.A black sedan sped toward me and parked right in front of me with a sharp swe

  • Exposing My Fiance’s Storeroom Affair   Chapter 5

"Shut up!" Celeste suddenly roared at Justin, looking enraged. That roar confirmed everything Justin said was true, and I suddenly felt dizzy with realization. I had to stop myself from falling by holding onto the side of the table. The world turned quiet all of a sudden, and all I could hear was my heavy breathing and the sound of my heart being torn apart. Celeste was my most trusted friend. She was with me when I caught Justin cheating, and she had been angry on my behalf for what they did. She was also there by my side when I chose to forgive Justin's 'buddy' again and again. It turned out that she was in cahoots with them! Celeste was the one who swapped my pills to make sure my health deteriorated, and she was even helping Justin usurp my fortune. Why?"Why did you do it?" I finally asked with a trembling voice. Celeste looked at my eyes brimming with tears, and she knew she could no longer hide it. The concern was wiped off her face and replaced with a malicious and
