Working with Michael hadn’t been as bad as I thought.

I swiped gloss over my lips, staring at my reflection for what felt like the hundredth time.

This had become a routine since I resumed work and discovered Michael was now the CEO. Knowing I’d see him every day made me more self-conscious. It wasn’t that I was letting go of my decision to keep things professional. I mean, looking good was good business, right?

Still, I had to admit it—I wanted to look good for him. Of course that was the reason.

I’d never cared much about my appearance before. Not when I had a husband and two kids to look after. And even after Gilbert left, I still hadn’t found a reason to care.

But now… I gave myself one last look in the mirror, took a breath, and prepared to leave.

Today, I was meeting a new prospective client I’d been communicating with. If everything went well, King Global would be handling the construction of his estate.

The drive to the office felt amazing. I couldn’t stop smiling the wh

JuliaMichael and I broke apart instantly. I turned toward the sound of the door creaking open.“Justin.” His name fell from my lips in both shock and fear. My heart pounded so loud I prayed he hadn’t seen us kissing.“Mom?” His brows pulled together. “Michael? What’s going on?”“Why are you back home this early?” His eyes moved between me and Michael, suspicious. “Don’t tell me something went wrong.”“No.” I forced a nervous smile. “Everything’s fine. I… I…”“I told your mom I was coming over to see you,” Michael cut in smoothly, saving me from choking on my own words. “She asked if she could come along.”“Oh, I see.” Justin smirked. “So, Mom, you’re enjoying the perks of working with your son’s best friend, huh?”I managed a small, nervous laugh. “Something like that.”“Come on in, guys,” Justin stepped aside, pushing the door wider. “Dad, I want to introduce you to someone.”My chest tightened. No, not now.He pointed toward Michael with a proud grin. “This is Michael, my best frie

JuliaMichael stormed into his office, pacing around without saying a word. I walked in behind him and turned the knob, locking the door.“Michael, is everything okay?” I watched him slide his hands into his pockets as he paced. He looked tense, like he was clearly pissed off. Then he stopped. His eyes lifted to mine, searching my face. I held my breath for a second and let it out.“How long did you think you could keep it up, Julia?”My brows creased. “Keep what up?”“You’ve been avoiding me, haven’t you?”“I’ve just had a lot of work to do,” I murmured, nervous.“Quit the act, Julia,” he snapped. “I know.”My heart skipped. “You know what?” I whispered, hoping he hadn’t found out Gilbert was back.He took a step closer. “Julia, your son is my best friend. How long did you think it would take before I found out that that bastard Gilbert is back?”My body froze. My heart pounded so loud it hurt. He knew.I bit the inside of my lip. “I… I’m sorry. I didn’t know how you’d take it.”“Ju

Julia“Oh my God! Dad!” Justin barreled into the living room, breathless with shock and excitement.“My son.” Gilbert grinned warmly. His eyes lit up like he was genuinely happy. If I didn’t know him better, I might’ve believed he missed Justin. “I missed you, son.”He pulled Justin into a hug. Justin held him tight, his head resting against Gilbert’s chest. I looked away.“Dad, when did you get back?” Justin looked at his father like he was seeing something he thought he’d lost.Jealousy bloomed low in my gut, unwelcome. A thought I didn’t want to think. Maybe my kids loved their father more than they loved me.“Last night,” Gilbert answered as he glanced my way. “And I wish your mother was as welcoming as you both.”Justin’s head whipped between us. “What do you mean?” “She made me sleep on the hard couch,” Gilbert shook his head, a sad smile tugging at his lips. “She’s mad at me. And I don’t blame her. It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have stayed too long away from home.”He was pretend

JuliaI shut the door on impulse, clutching my chest, shocked to my bones. I heard a metallic sound in my ears, even though I knew it was silent. I felt like I couldn’t breathe. The doorbell rang again. I opened it—and it was really him.Gilbert.He still had that wide smile on his face.“Quit the games, honey. I’m back.”What? The audacity of him.He pushed me aside with one hand and walked in, looking around like he owned the place. And yes, maybe it was his house once. But he lost that right the moment he tried to gamble it away—and hit me for trying to stop him. If I had let him, he wouldn’t even have a home to come back to.“Justin and Olivia, where are they? Where are my kids?” he asked, like he still had control over us.I swallowed hard. “They should be upstairs. In bed,” I said, folding my arms.“What are you doing here, Gilbert?”He looked back at me. “What kind of stupid question is that, Julia? This is my home.”He chuckled like he was joking—but I caught the meanness in h

  • FALLING FOR MY SON’S BILLIONAIRE BEST FRIEND   CHAPTER 63: THE UNEXPECTED HAPPENED

JuliaI ignored his calls all day yesterday. And again this morning. Each time his name lit up my phone, I pressed the side button and silenced it. I couldn’t stand to hear his voice. Not after seeing him with her. She had her arms wrapped around him—so cozy, like he was her boyfriend. She looked perfect beside him. And I hated how much it hurt. I hated that I cared. But God, I did. Another call came through. This time, my office line.I sighed and picked up. “Hello?”There was silence. And then… “Julia,” his deep voice called my name. And I froze. My heart stuttered, my fingers suddenly became weak.“Can we talk?” he added, his voice making me tremble. I almost caved and said yes. I slammed the phone down. I can’t. Not now. Not when I still felt this angry and betrayed.Minutes later, Lydia walked in with a file. “New client,” she dropped it on my table. “The CEO asked me to give this to you. The client…She’s expecting you this evening. Everything you need is in the folder.”I opene

MichaelThe cameras kept flashing as I stood in front of the press, answering their endless questions. My eyes scanned the crowd—and then I saw her. Julia. She walked toward me, looking nervous. She showed up. Just like she’d promised, she stood a little behind me, off to the side. I let out a half-smile and turned my attention back to the journalists.“Mr. King,” one of them called out, “who is this woman to you?”I froze, just for a second. Julia tensed beside me, her eyes wide with panic.A part of me wanted to say it—that she was my woman, that we were together, that I trusted her more than anyone. But this wasn’t the time. This press conference wasn’t about us. It was about King Global—about leadership, legacy, and control. The board was watching. Investors were watching. I couldn’t risk it—not now. I spotted Langley. His expression told me he wasn’t happy Julia was standing beside me. And just like that—I had my opportunity.“Langley,” I said, turning to him, “could you join us
