Ella's POV

"Good morning, honey."

My mom's voice pulled me out of sleep. I opened my eyes slow. The morning light was coming through my window. And my mom was sitting on the edge of my bed with clothes in her hands.

"Good morning, Mom," I said, stretching my arms over my head.

"You need to start preparing for school. You'll be late."

I rubbed my eyes and sat up. Then I saw the clothes in her lap. A black top. Some jeans. Nothing special. But the way she was holding them, like they were importan

Ella's POVSara walked to my desk. Stood right in front of me. I held my breath, waiting. I thought she would say something mean. Something that would make everyone laugh like always. The words were already forming in my head before she even opened her mouth. I was ready for the hit.But it didn't come. She just stood there. Looked at me. Then she sat down in the empty desk beside me.My heart stopped. She never sat beside me. Never. Not once in all these years. Why now? What was she doing?Class started. The teacher was talking. But I couldn't focus. Sara was right there. So close I could smell her perfume. Sweet. Too sweet. It made my stomach turn.I can perceive evil from her, my wolf said.I almost laughed out loud. "Really? Is that even possible to perceive?" I thought back at her. I wasn't taking her seriously. Evil? Come on. Sara was mean. Cruel even. But evil?Yes. Every wolf has an ability. And this is one of ours.I paused. This was the first time I was hearing this. Every w

Sara's POVYou know how it is these days. Guys are all after ladies with big ass, big breast, and curvy shape. No one cares about pretty faces anymore. That's what I believe. Because I have the pretty face. The perfect face. Clear skin. Big eyes. Full lips. But that's it.I don't have the body.No big breast. No ass that a guy can grab. Nothing that makes them look twice when I walk by.So I hide behind cheerleading. The uniform. The hair. The makeup. The smile. I made myself the queen of this school so no one would look too close. So no one would see what I'm missing. And then there's Ella.Seeing her today with that body. Those curves. That shape. It reminded me of everything I don't have. Everything I want. Her back side. Her front. The way the clothes hugged her. Even I have to admit her body is tea. I hate to admit it, but it's true. The hate started way before today though. Way back.Third grade. Recess. I was standing by the swings, waiting for my turn. Ella ran past me. Fast.

Ella's POVI expected everyone to laugh. That's what always happened. Sara said something mean, and people laughed. It was like clockwork. Her words, their laughter, my shame. The same pattern for years. But this time, no one laughed."Isn't it funny?" Sara asked again. Her voice was louder now. Sharp. "Will he survive it?"Still nothing.People were looking at me and Damon. Not at Sara. Not laughing. Just watching. Their eyes were on us. Not minding what crazy Sara was saying with her friends.Damon was still holding my hand. I could feel his palm against mine. Warm. Familiar. The same hand that used to hold mine in the storage room. In the dark. Where no one could see."Good morning," he said."Good morning," I said back.I looked at him. Really looked. He was tired. Dark circles under his eyes. His hair was messier than usual. Like he hadn't been sleeping. Then I noticed he was still holding my hand. I pulled away. Fast."You shouldn't have helped. I got it."That was a lie. I didn

Ella's POV"Thanks," I said, turning toward my locker.Kael was still walking behind me. I could hear his footsteps. Feel his eyes on my back. People were still staring as I walked past. Even Miss Lana, my math teacher, looked at me when I passed her in the hallway. When I turned to look back, I caught her still watching.I had never gotten that kind of attention from teachers before."I felt you weren't comfortable with me showing up yesterday night," Kael said."Why do you think so?" I opened my locker and started pulling out my books. "I wouldn't have done my science homework if not for you."That was true. My notebook had all the notes I needed. Without it, I would have been stuck.Kael leaned against the locker next to mine. "I overthink too much. So I assume things.""Good for you," I said. The words came out before I could stop them. I never talked to anyone like that. Not with that tone. Not with that edge. But Kael didn't seem bothered. He just smiled."Guess what," he said.

Just go take your bath. Then you'll find out soon."I wanted to ask more questions. But she had that look. The one that said she wasn't going to say anything else until I did what she said.So I got up. Went to the bathroom. Brushed my teeth. Took my bath. The water was hot and it woke me up all the way. But my mind was still spinning. What was she pla

Ella's POVAfter Damon left, Kael didn't stay long.He said goodnight. I said goodnight back. That was it. He walked out of my room and I heard his footsteps go down the stairs. I didn't even walk him to the door. I just stood there in my room, holding my science notebook, listening to the front door open and close. My wolf was angry at me for that. You let him leave. You didn't even say thank you. He brought your notebook back. He came all this way.I ignored her. After a few minutes, I went downstairs to get some yogurt. My stomach was empty and the cold felt good going down. I opened the fridge and pulled out a cup. Strawberry. My favorite. When I turned around, my mom was sitting in the living room. The TV was on but low. She had a bowl of popcorn in her lap. She was watching me with that look she gets when she wants to ask something."You never once told me about any of your friends called Kael," she said.I grabbed a spoon from the drawer and walked toward the couch. "He's not a
