Elena

I kept running until my feet bled, until my lungs felt as though they were filled with crushed glass.

I had lost count of the days. Three? Four? Time blurred into an agonizing cycle of freezing rain, sharp brambles tearing at my bare skin, and the hollow ache of starvation. I had left the Crest pack with nothing—stripped of my dignity, my home, and even the dark velvet dress I wore. Every blast of mountain wind bit straight into my marrow, carrying the biting scent of pine and wet dirt.

To the world, a rogue is a rabid beast, a creature that committed some unforgivable atrocity to be cast out from the light of a pack. I used to believe that lie, too. I used to think the rogues hunted on the borders were monsters who deserved their fate.

Now, shivering in the mud, I knew the truth: sometimes the monsters are the ones wearing the Alpha's crown.

Out here in the shadows, rogues were nothing more than prey. Vampires hunted us for sport and unsanctioned blood feeds; dark witches dragged us into the swamps for blood rituals; human hunters used us for target practice to avoid starting full-scale wars with organized packs. And for a newly banished, unbonded female wolf, the oldest, most feral rogues were the deadliest threat of all.

My legs finally buckled. The muscle fibers in my thighs quivered and gave out entirely, pitching me forward onto the freezing rot of the forest floor.

I couldn't run anymore. I was tired—so painfully tired of fleeing, of bleeding, of enduring.

Slumping backward, I leaned my bare, bruised back against the rough bark of an ancient oak tree, pulling my scraped knees to my chest to hide my nakedness. I stared up through the thick canopy at the pale, indifferent moonlight.

In the heavy silence of the woods, my mind drifted back through the dark corridor of my life. There had never been a moment of warmth. Never a place where I felt safe or wanted. My mother had died bringing me into the world, and my father—Beta Jeremiah—had looked at me with cold resentment ever since. His pride, his affection, his very heart belonged entirely to Patricia. I had been a ghost in my own home, a servant hiding in the scullery.

And then came Kieran. My mate. The man destined by the Goddess to cherish and protect me had smashed my wrists, driven iron into my hand, and stripped me bare before his court.

A ragged sob tore from my throat, hot tears burning down my dirt-caked cheeks. Goddess above, I screamed in the silence of my heart, where did I fail you? What sin did I commit in my past life to deserve a fate so cruel?

A soft rustle of dead leaves shattered the quiet.

"Well, well... look what the storm washed up."

My head snapped up, my heart dropping straight into my stomach.

Four men stepped out from behind the thick pine trunks. They were filthy, dressed in tattered leather and rags, their hair matted with dried blood and sap. But it was their eyes that made my blood run cold—yellowed, wild, and gleaming with a desperate, predatory hunger that roamed freely over my exposed body.

They had been rogues for years. The human in them was long gone, burned away by years of feral survival.

This is it, I thought numbly, wrapping my arms tighter around my chest as cold panic seized my throat. This is how my story ends. Naked and broken in the mud.

I wept freely now—for my ruined youth, for my mother’s forgotten memory, for a life that ended before it had even begun.

The largest rogue took a heavy, looming step toward me, a cruel grin spreading across his chapped lips. "Don't cry, little bird. We'll take real good care of you."

No.

A sudden, sharp spark of defiance flared up through the exhaustion. I wasn't going to lie down like a lamb for slaughter.

My fingers brushed against a heavy, fallen oak branch buried in the leaves beside my leg. As the lead rogue reached down to grab my ankle, I gathered every ounce of strength remaining in my shattered frame, hoisted the thick branch with both hands, and slammed it straight across the side of his jaw.

CRACK.

The rogue stumbled backward with a howl of rage, blood spraying from his mouth.

I scrambled to my feet, turning to sprint into the dense brush—but I barely managed two ragged steps before a heavy, leather-clad arm snared my hair from behind.

Before I could even scream, I was lifted off my feet and hurled through the air like a ragdoll.

BOOM.

My body slammed violently into the trunk of a massive pine tree. A sickening crunch echoed through the clearing as my spine absorbed the full impact, followed by a surge of white-hot, agonizing paralysis that tore through my lower body. I crashed into the mud, gasping for air that wouldn't enter my collapsed lungs.

I couldn't feel my legs. I couldn't move my fingers.

"You treacherous little bitch!" the struck rogue snarled, spitting out a broken tooth as he towered over me, raising an iron-capped boot. "I'm going to break every single bone left in your—"

A roar shattered the night.

It wasn't the howl of a rogue. It was a deep, thunderous, bone-rattling growl that vibrated through the very dirt beneath my cheek—a sound thick with raw, ancient Alpha authority.

The four rogues froze instantly, the color draining completely from their filthy faces.

From the dark tree line, four massive wolves strode into the moonlight with lethal, synchronized grace. Their coats were sleek, their muscles rippling like iron beneath silver armor-harnesses. The rogues began to tremble violently, backing away in sheer terror.

My vision was dimming fast, dark shadows eating away at the edges of the moonlit clearing. My body was shutting down.

I felt gentle, powerful hands lift my broken frame off the freezing mud, wrapping me in a warm, heavy wool cloak that smelled faintly of sandalwood and rain.

A deep, velvet-soft voice whispered directly into my ear, firm and protective: "We've got you. Don't worry, you're safe now."

As my eyelids fluttered shut, a sharp, gasping voice rang out among the rescuers:

"Wait... hold the light higher! Look at her face... isn't she...?"

It wasn't the calculated, terrifying dominance I displayed in front of the elders or the pack enforcers. It exploded inside my chest without a second's warning—sharp, violent, and utterly barbaric, crashing through my ribcage like an unleashed monster breaking free from its iron chains.I couldn't even pinpoint the exact moment I had lost control, and that terrifying lack of grip only fueled the inferno raging beneath my skin. I had faced every form of resistance known to our kind before today. I had stared into the eyes of dying Alpha rivals who cursed my bloodline with their final breaths. I had weathered mockery, bitter resentment, and open defiance from captives, rogues, and political enemies alike

Lucian"Stop!"The word ripped from my throat before my brain could stop it, ringing across the cold granite hallway like a crack of thunder.I couldn't explain where it came from. It wasn't logic. It wasn't strategy. It was a raw, tangled instinct that pulled me in two opposite directions at once, tearing at my chest until I could barely breathe.Long before this day, I had made a silent vow to myself.I had sworn that when the Goddess finally granted me my mate, I would honor her. Shield her. Treat her with a reverence no other wolf in the territories had ever known. I had envisioned a bond of absolute devotion—giving her comfort, safety, luxury, and my unyielding protection. She would never have to beg for my mercy. She would be cherished. Spoiled. Safe behind my claws. And then the universe handed me her.A Crest rogue. Fractured. Untamed. A living weapon sent from our greatest enemies. From the second we pulled her broken body from the border mud, everything had turned to ash. Ev

ElenaMorning light pierced through a narrow stone window, slicing across my face like a blade. I groaned, pulling a bruised arm up to shield my eyes, my breath coming in shallow, ragged puffs of frustration as consciousness dragged me back from the dark void.I sat up abruptly—and froze. The room was silent, crisp, and unnervingly precise. The mattress beneath me was firm and narrow; the stone walls rose in clean, gray lines that pressed inward, giving the space a controlled, clinical feeling. An unadorned wardrobe stood pushed tightly against the corner, and a single wooden chair sat perfectly centered against the far wall. There was no scent of mold or rot here. It smelled of cedarwood, ozone, and fresh slate.Memories flooded my mind in sudden, brutal flashes—the four monstrous wolves in the moonlight, the crunch of my spine against the tree, iron chains, and four dark brothers declaring me their mate and personal maid.I am in the stronghold of the Quadruplet Alphas.Panic rising
