THE REJECTION

last update Last Updated: 2024-09-08 17:47:03

The Moonrise Festival was supposed to be a night of celebration. The entire pack had gathered in the clearing, where the soft glow of the full moon bathed everything in a silvery light. Bonfires crackled and danced, sending sparks up into the star-studded sky. Laughter and music filled the air, blending with the distant howls of wolves.

Catherine stood at the edge of the gathering, her heart pounding. Tonight was the night she had dreamed of her entire life — the night she would find her mate.

Anticipation thrummed through her veins. Her hands trembled as she smoothed down her simple blue dress, made especially by her mother for this occasion. For years, she had lingered on the periphery of the pack, unnoticed and unremarkable. But tonight, everything was supposed to change.

Her eyes scanned the crowd, searching for any sign of him — her mate. She didn’t know who he was, but the moment their eyes met, she would feel it. The bond would pull them together, as her mother had always promised. That magical moment when time would stop, and nothing else in the world would matter.

Her breath hitched when she spotted Kieran, the Alpha’s son, across the clearing. He was everything she wasn’t — tall, confident, and powerful, with an easy smile that seemed to captivate everyone around him. His dark hair fell in waves around his sharp, handsome features, and his amber eyes glowed like embers in the moonlight.

For a fleeting moment, their eyes met, and Catherine felt a jolt deep within her. Her heart raced. Could it be him?

Her pulse quickened as her feet moved without thinking, drawn to him by something primal. She had admired Kieran from afar for years — his strength, his leadership, the way he seemed to command every room he entered. He was everything she had ever dreamed her mate would be.

But as she drew closer, the warmth in his eyes vanished, replaced by something cold and unfeeling. His expression darkened, and a flicker of cruelty passed over his face. Catherine’s heart lurched, but she kept walking, determined to reach him.

She was just a few steps away when Kieran finally turned to face her, his expression unreadable. The crowd seemed to quiet, as if sensing the tension.

“Kieran,” she began, her voice barely above a whisper, “I think… I think we’re mates.”

For a split second, the world hung in the balance.

Then Kieran laughed. A cold, mocking sound that shattered the moment and sent a ripple through the crowd. Heads turned, eyes focused on them.

“You think what, Catherine?” he sneered, his voice dripping with disdain. “That you’re my mate?”

Catherine’s cheeks flushed with humiliation as the pack’s eyes bore into her. “I… I felt the bond,” she stammered, her voice faltering.

Kieran took a step closer, his lips curling into a cruel smile. “You felt wrong,” he said, his voice cold and cutting. “There is no bond between us. You’re nothing to me — just a low-born wolf with ridiculous fantasies.”

The murmurs from the crowd grew louder, and Catherine felt her heart shatter into a million pieces. Her entire world was collapsing around her. This couldn’t be happening.

“Kieran, please,” she whispered, her voice breaking. “I know you felt it too.”

But he only laughed again, louder this time. “The only thing I feel is pity for you,” he spat. “You’ll never be worthy of someone like me. You’re nothing.”

Tears welled up in Catherine’s eyes as the weight of his rejection settled over her, suffocating her. The whispers of the pack sliced through her like knives. She had dreamed of this moment her entire life, and now it had become her worst nightmare.

Without another word, Kieran turned his back on her and walked away, leaving her standing there in the clearing, utterly broken. The crowd slowly dispersed, their whispered judgments trailing behind them, and Catherine was left standing alone, her heart in pieces.

Unable to bear it any longer, she turned and ran, fleeing the scene of her public humiliation. She ran blindly through the forest, the pain and rejection coursing through her like a poison. Her feet pounded against the earth as tears blurred her vision, but she didn’t stop. She couldn’t stop.

She didn’t stop running until the sounds of the festival were nothing but a distant echo, until the only sound was her own ragged breathing.

Finally, she collapsed to her knees, sobbing uncontrollably, her hands digging into the dirt as her entire world crumbled around her. How could the bond be wrong? How could she be so wrong? Was she truly so worthless, so undeserving of love?

The rejection cut deeper than anything she had ever known.

For hours, she stayed there, lost in the storm of her emotions. When the tears finally dried, she wiped her face and stood on shaky legs. She couldn’t go back to the pack. Not now. Not after this.

With a final glance back toward the distant lights of the festival, Catherine made her decision. She would leave. She had no idea where she would go, but she couldn’t stay here. She had to find a way to heal. A way to start over.

And so, she turned and walked into the darkness, alone but determined to find her own path, she had a goal now, which was to discover herself and train to her fullest potential so everyone could stop looking down on her as a low ranking wolf.

  • FATED TO HEAL   AN ALPHA AND HIS LUNA.

Two days had passed since the battle, but the grief in my heart felt as raw as the moment Kieran fell into the chasm. The sky was a muted gray, the sun hidden behind heavy clouds, as if mourning alongside us. We gathered in the heart of the Moon Shadow pack's territory, wolves and humans standing side by side in solemn silence. It wasn’t just a memorial—it was a moment to honor a hero, a leader, and a brother. As I stood beside Luca, my heart ached for him. Kieran wasn’t just the previous Alpha; he was his brother, his blood. The loss had carved a wound so deep it would take a lifetime to heal. Luca stepped forward, his face a mask of stoic determination, though I could see the pain in his eyes. His voice carried over the crowd, firm yet tinged with sorrow. “Kieran was more than a brother to me,” he began, his words measured. “He was my challenger and although he did wrong in the past, he proved himself worthy of being called an alpha. And though he’s no longer with us, his spirit

Damian stretched his hands forward without a word, and his army surged toward us like a relentless tide.Ahead of my army, Luca and I didn’t hesitate. With a shared glance, we charged into the fray, breaking through Damian’s men with swift, brutal efficiency. The sounds of battle roared around us—clashing blades, howling wolves, and cries of pain—but none of it mattered. My focus was singular: Damian. His soldiers came at us from all sides, but we carved a path through them, our movements a deadly dance. My claws slashed through flesh and bone, my senses heightened as the red energy burned through me. Beside me, Luca fought with unmatched ferocity, his strikes precise and lethal.Damian stood in the distance, unmoving, his eyes cold and calculating. Flanking him were his two dark priests, their presence radiating a dark, oppressive energy. He didn’t flinch as we cut through his wolves, his confidence unshaken. The ground beneath us trembled as the battle raged on. My army clashed with

  • FATED TO HEAL   COME AT ME.

I stood frozen, my knees weak and my heart pounding so hard I thought it would burst out of my chest. Tears blurred my vision as the weight of Damian’s words settled over me.“I can’t go against them,” I whispered, my voice barely audible. Even as I spoke, I hated myself for saying it.Damian’s sharp eyes locked onto mine, and his lips twisted into a cruel smile. He didn’t need to hear me—he had read my lips. That wicked grin of his made my stomach churn. He turned and strode toward my mother, who was bound and broken in those heavy chains. The sound of them scraping against the cold, hard ground sent shivers down my spine.“You give me no choice, Cathrine,” he said, his voice loud enough to cut through the silence.I wanted to scream, to fight, but my body refused to move. I could only stand there, trembling, as Damian grabbed my mother’s chin with his hand.“Out of my generosity,” he said with a mocking smile, “I’ll offer you one last chance to speak. Any final words?”My mother, he

  • FATED TO HEAL   CAT GOT YOUR TONGUE.

I took a cautious step forward, my army moving as one behind me. The earth beneath my boots seemed to pulse with the weight of the moment. The tension was suffocating, the distance between us and Damian’s army feeling like a fragile thread ready to snap. My gaze never left Damian’s face, though my peripheral vision picked up the shifting forms of his wolves. They were restless, teeth bared, waiting for the command to strike. But then, Damian raised a hand, and his wolves parted once again. This time, another figure emerged from their ranks—a man I knew all too well.“Dennis,” I whispered, my chest tightening. He walked with measured steps, his head bowed slightly, a gleaming sword clutched in his hand. His shoulders were stiff, and his movements lacked the usual confidence I remembered. My heart ached as I saw him stop just a few paces from Damian, the blade in his grip trembling ever so slightly. He turned his head just enough for me to see his face—teary-eyed, conflicted, and filled

  • FATED TO HEAL   I'M COUNTING ON IT.

After days of relentless marching, we arrived at the border of Damian’s territory. The dense forest seemed darker here, the trees more twisted and suffocating. Each breath felt heavier, the air thick with the scent of damp earth and something foul I couldn’t place. My heart pounded, though I kept my expression cold, my head held high. I couldn’t let the others see even a flicker of doubt. But when we broke through the tree line, I froze. Damian was already there. He stood at the head of his army, a wall of snarling wolves behind him. His presence was as commanding as ever, broad shoulders squared, his eyes gleaming with cruel amusement. Beside him, his generals stood tense, their claws glinting in the faint light. Every one of them was poised to strike. For a brief moment, I questioned everything. How had he known we were coming? Had someone betrayed us? Or was Damian just that arrogant, so confident in his rule that he expected us to challenge him eventually? It didn’t matter now.I
