CAUGHT IN THE ACT

"What was that?" He asks me while he watches the bird fly off. He looks like he wants to snatch the bird from its flight to find out what I just sent.

I was taken unawares. How didn't I feel someone at my back?

"Ermmm… my lord, I was sending a letter to my parents and my sister. They always love to hear from me every week," I stutter. I hope that I didn't just let my guard down.

He stares at me blankly. I try to read the expression on his face, but there seem to be none as it all seemed to have been concealed by him. For the first time in my entire years of existence, I feel nervous and wish that I have the ability to read minds. I wouldn't mind getting into his head and reading his thoughts.

"You were sending what messages? Why did you have to send it this late at night?" He finally speak up, and I release the breath I've been holding unknowingly. I've never been this nervous all my life. The moon is reflecting on his hard features now. He isn't smiling.
