Adrienne POV

Not long after I'd had breakfast of a single pancake and a glass of milk, Meg and Alexis danced into Lucas's room.

"We're going shopping!", Alexis announced.

I sat up from the bed where I was laying face up counting the stars Lucas had stuck up there for me.

"We are?", I asked.

Meg plopped down beside me. "Ignore her. She'll come off it", she advised.

Alexis ignored both of us, only fished around in her purse for something and seconds later, came up triumphant.

"Aha!" In her hands, she held two gleaming black cards.

"Where did you get those?", Meg asked, suddenly interested.

"Lucas", Alexis sang. "I said Adrienne wanted to go shopping and he said to get anything she wants."

"What?" That was both Meg and me.

"Adrienne never said she wants to go shopping!", Meg said.

"Yeah", I affirmed. "I don't want to go.'

Alexis waved her hand and shushed me. "Of course you do, honey. And even if you don't, you'll like what I want to get for myself, yes?"

"Alexis", Meg groaned. "You are

Lucas was sifting through paperwork in his office when suddenly, a voice barged into his head. An urgent mindlink. It was his sister.*Lucas, you have to get here, and fast! Adrienne is gone!*Lucas's vision went pure white for a second after hearing that proclamation. Then, he got his bearings back, his heart thumping wildly in his chest, his work abandoned as he leapt over his table and raced out his office.*What?*, He thundered furiously. *Where are you? How did this happen?**We're outside the clothes shop*, Alexis said desperately. *We were walking home, and Quinn said something, and Adrienne shifted and ran!**Quinn? Who's Quinn? Nevermind, that's not important. She shifted? Which direction did she run to? I'll send the guards after her now. Meanwhile, I want you to try tracking her now!**Yes, Alpha*, Alexis replied. She knew when Lucas was just her brother and when he was her Alpha.Quickly, heart racing, Lucas sent a message to his border patrol and pack warriors, ordering t

Adrienne POV Lucas was holding my hand. I knew from the small sparks and tingling sensation that erupted every time he moved even slightly. I opened my eyes. That I wasn't in his bedroom was the first thing I noticed. I recognized the room though. It was the same hospital room I was in when I first came here. I wriggled my fingers in Lucas's palm and he shot up."Adrienne?""Hi", I said timidly."You're okay!" He breathed a sigh of relief. "Do you want something?", He asked. "Water?"I shook my head. "What happened?", I asked him.His gaze darkened. "We don't know. You just suddenly started... acting up."That was a mild way to put it, I thought. I remembered what happened, up to the point of me wanting to kill that guy I thought was Alpha Marcus.*Snow?* She was uncharacteristically silent.*I'm sorry*, she said.*For what?**For acting the way I did. I almost forced another shift.**It's not your fault, Snow. But why...**His smell. He smells like Alpha Marcus*, she said. *That's w

Adrienne POV I sat in front of Lucas's baby grand in his small library, running my fingers over the keys, too scared to actually play. Lucas had retreated into his study soon after breakfast, saying that the had work. He'd asked me to come sit with him but I didn't think he actually meant that. He was probably just being too nice and actually didn't want to be near me. Snow growled at me and gave me the equivalent of a wolf scowl.*That's not true!* I chose not to believe that, instead entering the library as soon as Lucas disappeared, admiring his books and piano like a creep. I heard footsteps sound closer to the door and quickly removed my fingers from the keys. It wasn't Lucas, that much I knew. They were much too light and quick.I turned just as a light knock sounded and the girl from earlier poked her head in. Alexis. She grinned at me."Hey. Lucas told me I'd find you here."She walked in, not even tottering on her sky high heels.I wondered who the hell wore heels in the hou

Adrienne POV I raced down the stairs at a speed that should have legitimately broken my neck, tears blurring my vision. Furiously, I wiped them away, vaguely hearing the sounds of large footfalls as Lucas chased after me.I burst out of the house into a large front yard and broke into a faster run, the cold night air nipping at my feet. I'd hurt Lucas. The one person that hadn't done anything to deserve it. The one person that had actually shown an interest in my getting better. I might not trust him, but he'd done nothing to deserve what I'd just done. Besides, it was better to leave now. Lucas might be a good person, but after the stunt I'd just pulled, he was sure to mete out my deserved punishment. Better to leave this place while I still could. My body was barely healed, but I was much better than I was the first day I was here. I escaped Blue Moon. I would also escape Blood Moon. It wasn't a matter of being strong enough. It was a matter of life and death."Adrienne, wait!" I h

  • FERAL    Chapter 12

A few hours later, Lucas opened the front door to a house that was as silent as a graveyard. The house looked as untouched as it was when he left it, except for the fact that another paper cup had joined his in the trash can. So apparently, his mate's stomach could handle a chocolate drink but not a pancake. He remembered her insinuation a few hours ago that he would spike her drink. He'd been so hurt by that but he hadn't let it show. Not for the first time, he wondered the extent of Adrienne's pain that she would think her own mate capable of poisoning her and came up blank. He remembered the bite mark on her neck then and almost growled as he realized she might not even believe they were mates. He shook his head clear of thoughts that would quickly become destructive if he didn't rein them in and climbed the stairs up to his bedroom, looking for Adrienne. The door was opened a crack and he pushed it open and walked inside. He saw the bags from earlier on the sofa, but no Adrienne.
