After Nate left her house, Meredith used a few seconds to compose herself. She used her palms to rub her face, suddenly feeling more tired than she let on while Nate was with her.

What was that all about?

Meredith couldn’t make sense of everything that happened between her and Nate. The redhead kissed her out of the blue and professed his love. She didn’t see that coming.

Hopefully, he will get the message that nothing will ever happen between them, not when Jake is still alive.

The doorbell rang, dragging Meredith’s attention from her inner musing. She stood up with a sigh and made her way to the door.

She opened the door with a flat expression that quickly brightened when she saw Jake on the other side.

“Hi, you came,” she said with joy, a happy smile coating her lips.

Jake glared at her, not responding to her greeting or her smile. He didn’t want to be here and made sure the blonde saw it on his face.

Meredith’s face fell when she noticed the stony look on Jake’s face.

  • FORBIDDEN MATES   Chapter Sixty: Broken Friendship

The tension in the room felt so palpable that one could cut it with a knife. Jake wouldn’t look at Adira as the blonde waited for his response, while Nate smirked beside him, his expression smug. He couldn’t wait for his friend to confess his sins and grant him the satisfaction of watching his world crumble. He knows how much Jake loves Adira, and it will kill the dark boy to lose her. Then he will get to feel the same agony he is in right now. Nate’s fingers curled into a fist as his mind brought up images of Jake and Meredith making love. He tortured himself with those images, unaware that what he imagined wasn’t how it happened. The silence stretched into awkwardness, forcing Meredith to break it. Please don’t listen to Nate; he's just trying to cause trouble. “Why don’t we go to the hospital to care for their injuries? Every other—”Adira raised her hand to stop Meredith from speaking. Her eyes narrowed at Jake, whose shoulders were slumped, and his gaze was fixed on the ground.

  • FORBIDDEN MATES   Chapter Fifty-Eight: His suspicions

Nate doesn't know why he is here. Meredith has made it clear that she neither returns his feelings nor acknowledges them, but despite his inner monologue arguing with himself about the futility of seeking the blonde out. And here he is, begging for more heartbreak. He got his wish, even though it wasn't what he wanted. Nate felt a dagger pierce his heart when Meredith opened the door, mentioning Jake's name with a huge smile. Something inside him snapped. Jake! He snarled, storming inside the house. Meredith, shocked to find Nate on her front door instead of Jake, took a step back at the fury in his eyes. Nate! What are you doing here? Her heart pounded in her chest. Oddly enough, she felt both fear and excitement, leaving the blonde wondering if being pregnant was making her crazy. Nate ignored Meredith's question and advanced toward the blonde, his expression stormy and intense. "Why do you like him so much? You know he will never love you, not like I love you." Meredith's hear

  • FORBIDDEN MATES   Chapter Fifty-Seven: Threatening Him

It has been a week since Meredith was discharged home. The young woman is doing better than the previous week. She has come to terms with her parents' death, and with the help of her guardian, her mother's best friend, she has taken care of things in the company. A board of directors would run her parents' company until she is old enough to take over. She has also made a decision about the little one growing inside her belly, which she has yet to share with her friends. Over the weekend following her discharge, none of her friends had contact with her. At school on Monday, the friends gathered in their usual spot, talking with each other, with little laughter. The tension created by the death of Meredith's parents has all but disappeared, and things are almost back to normal. While the friends talked, they suddenly went silent at the sight of Meredith's arrival in her red posh car."Did you know she will be coming to school today?" Dylan asked, looking at Adira. Adira shook her he

  • FORBIDDEN MATES   Chapter Fifty-Six: Are You Sure?

You are the father! The words echoed inside Jake's head while he gaped at Meredith with horrified, shocked eyes. Ever since he learned about the blonde's pregnancy, he has prayed that he wouldn't be the father. Looks like God was not in the mood to listen to the prayers of someone like him.Jake was so shocked and terrified of the news that the blonde landed on him that he spoke the first words that came to his mouth without thinking."Are you sure?" As you know, that is the least thing you should ask a woman who just told you that you are the father of her baby. Meredith glared at him. If looks could burn, Jake would be a charred barbecue. Jake winced at Meredith's scornful look, looking down at the ground. "I am sorry, I didn't mean to offend you. It is just that—"Jake trailed off, unable to finish his thoughts. He wasn't even sure what he was trying to say. He is not ready to be a father. Sure, but that is not his main concern. His main concern is how damaging this pregnancy wo

Jake and Adira were in her room doing their literature assignment. They had learned about ethical dilemmas in Literature, and their teacher tasked them to analyze a character’s ethical decision in a novel and evaluate the consequences of their action using evidence from the text. She gave them the choice of picking the book they wanted. Adira went with 'To Kill a Mockingbird, while Jake settled on The Crucible by Arthur Miller. Jake suggested doing it together so they could each read what they had written to one another. Adira agreed because she had no reason not to. They have been at it for an hour. Adira was about to request a break when she felt it. Her eyes doubled in size in horror, while she cried these words, ‘not now’, in her mind. Jake immediately felt her panic and looked at her. “What is wrong, D?” He asked worriedly from his prone position on the ground. They were both lying on the ground, with Adira now sitting up. “Nothing,” Adira blurted out quickly, her expression
