I checked the caller ID and was so surprised to see that my best friend number was active. I have been trying trying her line for a while but to no avail. I didn't pick up as she could be so unnecessarily lousy atimes and I wasn't ready for drama.

I looked at my mother guiltily. She stared back at me without saying anything as she dug into her food.

" Mom" I called out. " I'll be back. I want to get something very important" My eyes never leaving hers.

" Work calls?". she ask

" Yes " I lied again. I can't count how many times I had lied to her face.

" It's fine then".

I pecked her by the cheeks and rushed out immediately, my mind drifting on how to raise the funds for her treatment.

Outside the hospital.

It suddenly became windy with dust spuring in the air. I glanced at my phone as I checked the weather forecast. It was about to rain and getting to the country side where I live would take about an hour plus the traffic.

" Damn it!!" I exclaimed as I noticed that I wasn't with an umbrella or a coverage at all. I hissed in frustration as I moved across the road flagging a taxi as I couldn't wait for the public train.

As soon as I boarded the taxi. I noticed a black car following gently behind me and from the rear view I could feel someone's gaze resting on me but I didn't pay attention to it as that wasn't my focus.

I called the other line that just called me and as usual she picked up immediately.

" Hey". I say

" Ariaaaa!!!!!" she screamed, I kept my phone a bit far from my ear till she had her fill before putting it back.

" How was your trip?" I ask in a caring manner, seeming unfazed or bitter that she had not checked up on me.

" I'm so sorry Aria. I know I promised to be in touch but I suddenly travelled just for a few days though". she begged. I could imagine her pouting at the other end.

Yes it was just a few days and I was worried and concerned. Liana has been my childhood friend, has an outgoing personality unlike me.

" How did you sleep comfortably without hearing my voice?" I ask more in a playful yet tough manner.

" I felt bored and incomplete" she replied in her ever dramatic voice.

" You're forgiven"

" Yaayyyyy!!!! Love you Aria " she screamed for the second time as usual but this time in excitement. I chuckled.

" Okay come to think of it . I'm currently at your house but there's no one inside so where are you?".

I smiled as I reassured her to wait stating that we have a lot to discuss on.

Soon enough the taxi got to my destination. I paid and went straight to my house. It was an old building that my father left for my mom right before he passed away. That was one of the best treasure. At least we didn't have to pay for rent.

"Aria" my best friend called out. She looked so stunning in her outfit. She previously had a boyfriend that was lavishly spending on her.

" Liana" I said excitedly not wanting the news that I just heard bring me down.

" What's wrong?" she asks as she sees my face.Even when masked with pretense she could tell that I wasn't okay.

" Nothing much" I replied knowing fully well that she wasn't having it. I open the door leading the way into my home.

" You can't say so with a face looking like this".

"Okay fine—".

" Where's Mom?" he asked before I could speak.

" You see. That's the thing. Mom's in the hospital and in need of a surgery" I held the hem of my cloth as I spoke.

" Surgery?" she yelled a bit in wonder.

" Why? What happen? How?" she couldn't stop asking so many questions. Her exclaim broke me to pieces.

" S....she has blood cancer Liana" I sobbed quietly, the tears streaming down my face nonstop.

" Blood—" her hand placed on her mouth in shock. " The surgery cost five hundred thousand dollars Li. How am I going to raise that in the span of three to seven days cause the earlier the better". I said more like asking myself how possible.

" We'll find a way" she suddenly said with so much determination in her eyes as she hugged me calmly for a while. After then.

I pushed my room door open as I walked in. Everywhere was arranged as usual. I went towards my wardrobe as I tip toed to pick a box. I brought it down and proceeded to open it. This was where I had been storing my savings.

" What are you doing?" Liana asked utterly confused.

" I'm trying to calculate the amount that is here to see how I can fund my mother's treatment".

I opened it and there layed a lot of cash but after counting it I exhaled sharply.

" It's just one hundred and eighty six dollars". I say, my voice shaky. it wasn't even up to half. I had been saving this money for my fees. I so much loved education and I personally wanted to sponsor myself. My mom played a major role. it has almost been four years and I haven't for once spent the money I worked for except for basic needs that's why I could save this much.

" I have fifty dollars" Liana said. I stared at her like I wanted to strangle her but I held myself.

" How could you say you have—".

" We broke up Aria" she says. " I was going to tell you but you have a more pressing matter to handle".

" I see" I said nodding in pains. We couldn't even take a loan cause as soon as my father died my mother took it upon herself to repay. She has been repaying the loan gradually leaving us with no penny at hand.

" I have an idea on how to get this money but it'll require you to go out".

" To where?".

" Bar"

  • FORGIVE ME, PLEASE.    More Concerned than I should be

~Niklaus~ I left as soon as I had settled the case. I lost my appetite for food after seeing how settled she was— Maybe her smile gave me satisfaction and of course her confused look. I smirked thinking of how bothered she'll be owning a restaurant. Was I too forward? but that's the least I could at least do. Being possessive was iny nature. Charles open the car for me to sit and off to the hospital we went. In no time we arrived at the hospital. It wasn't as far as I had thought. I and Charles both highlighted from the car walking towards the private elevator that'll take us to the doctor's office. Charles had booked an appointment before time, the doctor will be expecting us. " Sir, we are here!!" Charles says turning to me as he notices my gaze unstable, lost in thought. " Hmm" I reply, walking out, My right hands stuffed at the right side of the pocket. I stood tall, my tailored suit accentuating my broad shoulders, exuding an air of confidence. " You can come in"

  • FORGIVE ME, PLEASE.    It's Yours

~Aria~ I stare at Niklaus in shock. Yeah I was expecting judgement but not the restaurant as mine. And what did he say? Wifey? Pffft. He must be crazy to think I'll want to be... Hold up, I can as well play along and scold him later. Maybe he doesn't want them to look down on me. Liana's eyes were wide opened. The distance between her lips were a bit wider than usual. Surprise, Shock and a kind of admiration was written all over her face. She glares at me as if telling me not to spoil the fun. " I... Why do I need a restau—". I say turning towards Nik as his gaze rested on me. I couldn't find the right statement. it was as though I was spellbound by his gaze. The manager brought the phone closer to Niklaus. His hands shaking from fear of been tailed out but what could he do. Niklaus wasn't the type he could bribe let alone impress with girls. " Hello. Who the hell did you give the phone to and what's the tension about? My restaurant's blown?". The other end shouted, leav

  • FORGIVE ME, PLEASE.    Ex Fiance

~Aria~ I'd like to distract myself from this feeling but I am stuck, stuck looking at him. I'd wish for my gaze to flicker but it didn't instead it was glued. His face as smooth as fresh milk, his eyes dark yet luring. His lips oh gosh I couldn't understand myself. All eyes were on me and maybe I know why. If the security footage gets here I fear what would happen. I haven't seen his ruthlessness but I swear someone is going home jobless today. " Sir the security footage is here" Charles spoke from the crowd. My heart raced as his gaze flickered to something dangerous. " What did you do to her?" he says, his gaze landing on Jack and his supposed girlfriend. " I....I..." Seeing Jack stammer stunned me. He was such a wide lipped person and now his words are stuck in his throat. " Mr Blackwood I....." The Manager's face turned pale. it had gotten to his part of interference and Nik saw how he was hostile towards me. " You told your dead ass security to touch m

  • FORGIVE ME, PLEASE.    Genesis of his ruthlessness

~Niklaus~ I had just finished a meeting today and I thought to visit the hospital where her mother is. I'm looking for answers. Whoever this anonymous person is, I must get rid of him immediately and I want to do so myself but just before then I thought to text her to at least agree to me. Never seen someone so determined to stay poor — I thought, scoffing. I picked up my phone. The drive to the hospital seem slow and I was loosing my patience. I adjusted the tie around my neck so I could breathe properly. "Aria" I muttered the name slowly like it was fragile. Like it was my favorite piece of being. " Sir, Did you say something?". Charles said turning back. " No" I grunt, I didn't like the moment where Charles interrupts my thought. " You don't really need to go yourself you know. I can handle it " he says but I was't convinced. I didn't say anything. I was quiet. I didn't need to say anything. Charles stares at me through the rearview mirror while I look out of

  • FORGIVE ME, PLEASE.    HARASSING YOU?

That was the last cake and I wanted to get it for my mom. She loves cake and this is all that I could do at least before she goes in for surgery. " Hey, Do you have a death wish? Can't you see someone requested for it first". Liana said, her voice cracking up from the anger within. " That I don't care. My babe wants it and she'll get it". Jack's voice irritated me to my bones and it left me to wonder how that pretty lady put up with him even with his attitude. That was one hell of a work. " You can't be serious. I was here before you. Say something" I directed the last word to the server and all I met was a fidgeting girl avoiding eye contact with me, proceeding to pack the order for him. " Sorry ma'am. The order belongs to who pays first and if you can wait for like an hour. Another would be ready" She says, her voice shaky. " But none of us has paid. Make it make sense" . From the tone of her voice I knew she was scared and whoever this man was. He was influentia

  • FORGIVE ME, PLEASE.    You deserve better

As I stepped into the room I saw the panic look on Liana's face. I rushed to where my mother was. She was in so much pain. The nurses quickly led us out and attended to her. I walked aimlessly in the corridor waiting for the doctor and nurse to walk out. One minute.... Two minutes.... I felt restless. Just then I felt a arm around me. It was comforting. Liana hugged me so tight. I never knew how scared I was until she held me. " Hey it's fine okay. It's just symptoms you don't have to worry". she says " But Li" " No buts. Mum would be fine " her reassurance echoed in my mind for a while and in no time the doctor and nurses came outside. " What was the issue doctor?" I ask, his face was marked with a very serious expression. This could only mean one thing. "You don't have to worry Miss Monroe. Your mom is fine but we need to speed up the surgery and she's having it soon. So prepare. Her body can no longer take the pains that comes with it " he says nodding his
