Elara’s POV

The night was cold and chilly as I stood by the gates of my former home with two suitcases by my side.

I pulled out my phone with steady fingers and dialed Grandpa’s number.

His voice was already covered with sleep when he answered.

“Grandpa… I’m ready,” I informed.

“I’ll send the driver.” he simply said.

Less than thirty minutes later, a black Prado pulled up in front of the estate. I quickly hopped in, trying not to spend more time here than I already have.

When I arrived at my family mansion, the gate flung open before we even honked. Grandpa stood outside, still in his night robe, and under the porch light.

“Welcome back home, child,” he greeted me, his arms wide open.

I ran into them. Tears spilled from my eyes as I mumbled again, “I’m sorry, Grandpa. I’m so sorry…”

He patted my back and pulled away slightly to look at me.

“Don’t cry again, my child. You are home now, and that is all that matters. For honoring my wish, I will throw a lavish party for your homecoming. All the dignitaries in the city will be present. You can have as much fun as you missed out on all these years.”

I managed a tearful chuckle.

“So go and freshen up and relax for a while,” he added, “because your big day is cominggggg”

The ballroom glittered under chandeliers. Golden ribbons, cream drapes, roses in tall vases. Every inch of the room screamed elegance, wealth, and legacy.

My custom emerald gown hugged my body perfectly and I could see heads turn whenever I passed by them.

I had secretly snuck Adrian’s name onto the guest list the other day so I was sure he was present.

I can’t wait to see his face when he realizes I am no ordinary girl to be played with.

Before marrying Adrian, I had a purpose. I was trained to be the next CEO of my family business, to lead, and expand the business empire.

But I had let go of it all to chase after a man who viewed me as nothing more than a substitute,

Now, standing in this ballroom, filled with power and grace, all I could think of was to show this man where power lies.

Adrian’s POV

The moment I saw the invitation, I grinned.

A homecoming event for the granddaughter of Alonso Revaz Group’s chairman? That was huge.

Life was beginning to favor me again. No more Elara to drain my energy with endless emotions.

This event was my ticket to success because. If I played my cards right, I could find someone richer, gullible, and more useful to replace her.

I had come here in a hired clean tuxedo to impress the people I interact with. Oh my days, I can't believe how great life will be when I finally get on these people’s level.

“Ladies and gentlemen…” the Chairman called, jolting me out of my thoughts.

“Thank you all for honoring my invitation. It is with pleasure that I present my long-lost granddaughter, Elara Sanz Alonso l…..”

I nearly dropped my wine glass as the supposed granddaughter of the Oldman Alonso mounted the stage.

“What?!” I gasped under my breath, staring intently at her without a blink.

Elara?

My Elara was related to the infamous Sanz Alonso dynasty? How come I didn’t know?

Descending like royalty in that green gown, her hair was swept up, with diamonds dancing on her neck like it was common.

No. No, no, no. This couldn’t be real. This must be a stunt or something like that…

Because ain't no way this was the Elara I mocked and dismissed the other night.

I couldn’t breathe.

Throughout the rest of the event, my eyes were fixated on her. I couldn't be happier when the event ended.

With quickness, I pushed through the crowd and caught her alone near the terrace doors.

“Elara!” I called.

She turned slowly, but her face was unreadable.

“What do you want, Adrian?”

“What did I hear just now? You’re the Alonso Revas heiress? And you never told me about it?”

She scrutinised me from head to toe as she disgustingly asked. “Does it matter now?”

“Why didn’t you tell me?” I stepped closer, and my hands were shaking. “If I had known, I…”

She cut me off. “Would you have treated me better?”

“Yes,” I answered without hesitation.

The slap that came after was too fast, loud, and hard. It was sharp enough to make the few remaining guests nearby turn their heads.

“You bastard,” she said, in a strong tone. “I gave you years of my life. I loved you with everything in me. And now you tell me you would’ve only treated me right if you knew I was rich?”

“I didn’t mean it like that!”

She rolled her eyes at me and attempted to leave but I quickly grabbed her arm. “Elara, listen. We can annul the divorce. We can fix this. It’s not too late…”

“Pathetic! Let go of me, Adrian!”

“Elara, please!”

“Let. Me. Go!”

She continued to struggle against my firm grip, her voice piercing through the air as onlookers murmured among themselves.

Just as she was screaming, another hand grabbed my hand and yanked me backward.

I turned immediately and was ready to throw a punch when I stopped midway.

The man’s intense gaze sent shivers down my spine. He looked sophisticated and powerful. He was wearing a Midnight-black suit, with striking eyes, and a dangerous calmness.

“Don’t you ever set your filthy hands on what belongs to me ever again,” he bellowed.

Elara's POVI needed air. The walls of the house felt like they were closing in on me, suffocating me with the weight of my anger and frustration. I grabbed my novel and headed to the garden, hoping the fresh air and peaceful surroundings would calm the storm raging in my chest. The garden was beautiful in the afternoon light, with flowers blooming in vibrant colors and the fountain bubbling softly in the center. I found my favorite spot under the large oak tree and settled onto the stone bench with my book. But I couldn't focus on the words. My mind kept replaying the breakfast scene, the way Killian had rushed to help Bella, the way he defended her in our argument. My jaw clenched as I remembered his dismissive tone when he told me she was just his childhood friend.Just friends. Right.I was so lost in my angry thoughts that I didn't notice someone approaching until I heard footsteps on the gravel path. I looked up to see Bella walking toward me, and what I saw made me pause. She w

Killian's POVI closed the door to my study harder than I meant to, the sound echoing through the room like a gunshot. My shoulders sagged as I leaned against the wooden frame, running both hands through my hair in frustration.Elara's angry words kept replaying in my mind like a broken record. The way her eyes had flashed with hurt and fury, the way her voice had shaken with emotion... I had messed this up badly.I walked to my desk and slumped into the leather chair, my head falling into my hands. The weight of trying to balance everything was crushing me. Bella needed help, but Elara was suffering because of it. And somehow, I was failing both of them.A soft knock interrupted my thoughts. Before I could answer, the door opened, and Bella slipped inside. She looked so much better than she had at the breakfast table, her cheeks pink and her eyes bright with concern."Are you fine?" she asked, closing the door gently behind her. "You look upset."I straightened up, trying to compose

Elara's POVI woke up to sunlight streaming through the curtains. My neck was stiff from sleeping on the small bed, and I rubbed it gently as I sat up. I looked over at Bella's bed, expecting to see her sleeping form under the covers. The bed was empty. My heart jumped, and I stood up quickly, alert and worried. Where was she? Had something happened during the night?Just then, I heard the bathroom door open. Bella came out, looking completely different from the weak, fragile woman I had helped last night. She was wiping her damp hair with a towel, and her cheeks had color in them. She looked... healthy. My eyebrows shot up in surprise. The change was so dramatic it made my head spin."Good morning," Bella said with a bright smile. "I made sure not to make a sound so as not to disrupt your sleep."I forced a smile, though my mind was racing with questions. "How are you feeling? I see you look better today.""Yes, I feel much better today. Thanks for your care," she said, her voice str

Elara's POVThe scream pierced through the air like a knife through my heart. My body went cold, and I felt all the blood drain from my face."HELP! SOMEBODY HELP ME!"Bella's voice was so weak, so desperate. I could hear the pain in every word.Without thinking, I ran toward the guest room, my bare feet pounding against the floor. Killian was right behind me, his footsteps heavy and urgent. My heart was beating so fast I thought it might burst out of my chest.I pushed the door open and gasped. My hand flew to my mouth in shock.Bella was on the floor beside the bed, her hospital gown stained with bright red blood. She was holding her hand against her chest, tears streaming down her pale cheeks. The white tiles beneath her were splattered with drops of blood that looked so dark against the clean floor."Oh my God!" I rushed to her side, dropping to my knees without caring about the blood on the floor. My hands were shaking as I gently touched her shoulder. "Bella, what happened?"She

Killian's POV"Elara?"My heart nearly stopped when I heard her voice from the stairs. I looked up to see her standing there in her nightgown, her eyes wide with shock and confusion. Her hair was messy from sleep, and she looked so small and vulnerable standing there.Beside me, Bella was still leaning heavily against my arm. She was so weak that I could feel her trembling through the thin fabric of her hospital gown."What is Bella doing here?" Elara asked, her voice tight with confusion. I could see her hands gripping the railing of the stairs, her knuckles turning white. My stomach dropped. "Do you two know each other?" I asked, looking between them. How could they possibly know each other?Elara came down the stairs slowly, her eyes never leaving Bella's face. "We met at the company yesterday," she said quietly. "But why is she here? In our house?"Our house. The way she said it made something warm spread through my chest, even in this awkward situation."She's my childhood friend

Elara's POVI sat on the edge of my bed, staring at the closed door where Killian had just disappeared. My heart was still racing from everything that had almost happened between us. The way he had looked at me, the way his hands had felt when he helped me with my nightgown... and then that phone call.Emergency. The word kept echoing in my head.My hands were shaking as I picked up my phone and dialed his number. It rang once, twice, then went straight to voicemail. His deep voice filled my ear, making my chest tighten with worry."You've reached Killian. Leave a message."I ended the call without saying anything. What would I even say? That I was worried about him? That I couldn't stop thinking about what emergency had made him run out so quickly?I tried calling again. Voicemail. And again. Voicemail. My stomach twisted into knots as I realized I didn't have his assistant's number, or his driver's number. I had no way of knowing if he was okay.I stood up and started pacing around
