Chapter 68: The Celebration

last update Data de publicação: 2026-05-09 05:05:51

The wolves at the edge of the forest vanished as quickly as they'd come, melting into the shadows like mist at dawn. But their words lingered in the cold air, settling into my chest like something that would never leave.

*The half-blood has earned her pack's respect. Now let's see if she can earn ours.*

I stood at the edge of the camp, Stellan's hand in mine, and felt the weight of those words press down on me. The pack had accepted me. Bjorn had bowed before me. The doubters had become believers. But the old ones were still watching. Still waiting. Still testing.

"The old ones," I said, my voice barely a whisper. "What do they want from me?"

Stellan was quiet for a moment. Then: "They want to see if you're real. If the prophecy is real. If the half-blood who chose love over fear can do what none have done before."

I looked at the forest, at the darkness beyond, at something I couldn't see. "And if I can't?"

He pulled me close, his arms wrapping around me, his face buried in my hair. "Then we find another way. We always find another way."

---

The celebration began at dusk.

The pack gathered at the edge of the lake, the fires burning bright, the snow turning to gold in the fading light. The North Star wolves were there—Dag and his loyal wolves, the ones who had stayed, the ones who had fought. The Bozkurt wolves were there—Altan and Ayşe, the Elder and the wolves who had followed them across the mountains. And the doubters were there—Bjorn and his wolves, their faces no longer hard, their eyes no longer cold.

They had come to celebrate the hunt. To celebrate the pack. To celebrate the half-blood who had become their Luna.

Stellan stood at my side, his hand in mine, the bond pulsing between us. "You did this," he said, his voice low. "You brought them together."

I looked at the wolves before me, at the pack that had doubted me, that had feared me, that had only just begun to accept me. "We did this. Together."

He smiled—that rare, beautiful smile. "Together."

---

The fire was built at the center of the camp, its flames reaching toward the sky, its warmth spreading through the gathering wolves. The Elder stepped forward, her silver hair bright, her voice rising in the old song, the song that had been sung since before the wolves came to these lands.

The wolves began to move, their bodies swaying, their voices rising. They danced around the fire, their forms shifting between wolf and human, their joy echoing off the mountains.

And Stellan pulled me into the circle.

"Dance with me," he said, his hands on my waist, his eyes bright.

I laughed—a real laugh, warm and free. "I don't know how."

He smiled. "Then let me teach you."

He moved with me, his body guiding mine, his hands steady on my hips. We danced around the fire, our steps slow, our breath mingling in the cold air. The wolves watched, their voices rising, their joy spreading through the camp like fire.

And for the first time in my life, I felt like I belonged.

---

The dance ended as the moon rose, its light silver on the snow, its presence a blessing on the pack. The wolves gathered around the fire, their voices raised in stories, their hearts full.

Stellan sat beside me, his arm around my shoulders, his face turned toward the sky. "You're happy," he said. "I can feel it. Through the bond."

I leaned into him, feeling the warmth of his skin, the pulse of his heart. "I am happy. For the first time, I'm really happy."

He kissed my forehead. "Then let's stay here. Let's stay like this. Forever."

I looked at the pack around us, at the wolves who had become my family, at the mate who had become my home. "Forever sounds good."

---

The stories ended as the night grew late, the wolves drifting back to their tents, the fire burning low. But Stellan and I stayed, sitting together at the edge of the lake, watching the stars wheel overhead.

"You were magnificent today," he said, his voice soft. "The hunt. The creature. The way you faced it. The way you saved the young wolf."

I looked at him. "I was terrified."

He smiled. "That's what made you brave."

I felt the words like a warmth, spreading through my chest, chasing away the cold. "I never thought I'd be here. I never thought I'd have this. A pack. A home. A mate who loves me."

He pulled me close, his arms wrapping around me, his face buried in my hair. "You deserve it. You deserve all of it. You deserve everything."

I held onto him, feeling the warmth of his skin, the pulse of the bond. "I love you."

He kissed me then—soft and sweet and full of everything we'd been through. "I love you too."

---

The wolves began to howl as the moon reached its peak.

Their voices rose into the night, wild and free, their joy echoing off the mountains. Stellan pulled me to my feet, his hand in mine, his eyes bright.

"Howl with me," he said.

I looked at the wolves around us, at the pack that had become my family, at the mate who had become my home. And I raised my voice to the moon.

The sound that came from my throat was not human. It was wolf. It was pack. It was me.

Stellan howled beside me, his voice rising with mine, our voices twining together in the cold air. The wolves answered, their voices joining ours, their joy becoming ours.

And when the howling faded, I stood at the edge of the lake, Stellan's hand in mine, and felt something I'd never felt before.

Home.

---

The celebration ended as the first light of dawn began to show.

The wolves drifted back to their tents, their voices low, their hearts full. The fire burned down to embers, the snow turning gold in the rising sun.

But Stellan and I stayed, sitting together at the edge of the lake, watching the day begin.

"You're pack now," he said, his voice soft. "You're family. You're home."

I leaned into him, feeling the warmth of his skin, the pulse of the bond. "I'm home."

He kissed my forehead. "Then let's stay here. Let's stay like this. Forever."

I looked at the camp, at the wolves who had become my family, at the mate who had become my home. "Forever."

---

Later, when the camp was quiet and the wolves were sleeping, I walked to the edge of the forest.

The trees were dark, the shadows deep, the silence absolute. But I knew they were there. The old ones. Watching. Waiting.

"They're testing you," Stellan said, appearing at my side. "Seeing what you'll become."

I looked at the forest, at the darkness beyond, at something I couldn't see. "Then let them watch. Let them wait. I know what I am."

He took my hand. "And what's that?"

I smiled. "Luna. Alpha. Mate. Pack." I squeezed his hand. "Home."

He pulled me close, his arms wrapping around me, his face buried in my hair. "Then let's go home."

The camp was in chaos when Lyra pushed through the entrance. Wolves ran in every direction, their voices sharp with alarm, their bodies tense with the expectation of violence. Fires had been knocked over in the confusion, sending sparks into the night sky. Tents had been trampled, supplies scattered. The prisoners were gone.Dag met her at the center of the clearing, his face pale beneath the grime of battle. "They escaped about an hour ago. We tried to stop them, but there were too many. Kael organized the breakout. He knew exactly where the guards would be, when they would change shifts. He planned this."Lyra looked around at the chaos, at the wolves who were still searching, still shouting, still trying to regain control. "How many got away?"Dag's jaw tightened. "All of them. Every prisoner we were holding."Stellan moved to stand beside her, his body tense, his eyes scanning the darkness beyond the camp. "They couldn't have gone far. The mountains a

The stranger at the edge of the camp did not move. She stood with her hands at her sides, her head slightly bowed, her breath misting in the cold air. She was young, perhaps sixteen or seventeen, with dark hair pulled back from a face that was trying very hard to be brave. Her clothes were torn, her boots worn through, her fingers red with cold. She had been walking for a long time.Lyra studied her from across the clearing. The guards had their hands on their weapons, their bodies tense, ready to act if the girl made any sudden moves. But the girl just stood there, waiting, her eyes fixed on Lyra with an intensity that felt almost familiar."I've been looking for you," the girl said again. "The half-blood who united the packs. The wolf who broke the prophecy." She took a step forward, and the guards shifted closer. "I need your help."Lyra held up her hand, and the guards stopped. "Who are you?"The girl swallowed. "My name is Mira. I come from the south

  • FROZEN BONDS: THE HALF-BLOOD'S MATE   Chapter 81: The Aftermath

The snow fell softly on the camp, covering the scars of battle, hiding the blood that had been spilled, softening the edges of grief that still cut deep. Three days had passed since Ronan had drawn his final breath. Three days since the pack had howled their victory. Three days since the world had begun to learn what peace felt like. The morning was gray and cold, the sky heavy with clouds that promised more snow before nightfall. Wolves moved through the camp with quiet purpose, their voices low, their steps careful. The celebration was over. What remained was the harder work of mourning.Lyra stood at the edge of the clearing where the funeral pyres had burned. The ground was still blackened, the snow melted away in a wide circle, leaving bare earth that smelled of smoke and ash and something older. Loss. She could taste it in the air, feel it settling into her bones like the cold that never quite left this place.Bjorn's pyre had been the largest. The Elder h

The messenger's words echoed in the cold air, settling into my chest like something that would never leave."The Watcher is gone. It disappeared into the forest. It said it was going home. It said the half-blood had done what it could not. It said it was time to rest."I stood at the edge of the lake, Stellan's hand in mine, and felt the weight of those words press down on me. The Watcher was gone. The old ones were defeated. The prophecy was fulfilled. But something was still missing. Something that had been chasing me since before I was born."What does it mean?" I asked. "The Watcher is free?"Stellan was quiet for a moment. Then: "It means the half-blood who came before has finally found peace. It means the prophecy is complete. It means the future is ours to build."I looked at the forest, at the darkness where the Watcher had disappeared. "I hope it finds what it's looking for."He pulled me close, his arms wrapping around me. "It alre

The Elder's words hung in the cold air, sharp and terrible, settling into my chest like ice."The old ones are coming. They've been waiting for this moment. Waiting for the half-blood to become what she was meant to be. And now they're coming to destroy her."I stood at the edge of the camp, Stellan's hand in mine, and felt the weight of those words press down on me. The old ones. The wolf who had fired the arrow knelt before me, her hands raised, her face pale. "I came to surrender. I came to tell you the truth. I wasn't working alone. There are others. Others who want to destroy everything you've built."I stared at her, the pendant warm against my chest, Bjorn's sacrifice still fresh in my mind. "Who? Who sent you?"She looked up at me, and I saw the fear in her eyes. Not fear of me. Fear of what was coming. "The old ones. The ones who have been watching since before the wolves came to these lands. Her body went rigid. And then she fell.---The arrow came from the forest, dark and fast, aimed at her heart. I caught her as she fell, my hands pressing against her wound, my voice rising.
