Chapter 4

In the end, Jean followed her friend after a few minutes of staring at her. She must have felt that her decision will not change.

When Jaylyn finally left, Jean went to her office. She still has some papers to sign before she goes home. She usually reaches her office very early in the morning. But that's not a problem for her because her house is nearby.

She studied the papers and signed them before she leaned back in her seat and closed her eyes for a moment to relax. When she opened her eyes, she immediately looked at her watch, it was ten o'clock at night. She first arranged the things and then decided to leave her office.

She was the only person in the office so there were some lights on and she decided to turn them off.

When the elevator opened in the lobby she quickly got out of there but she was surprised to see a familiar image of a man in the reception area of the building. He was sitting so relaxed in one of the chairs that you thought he was familiar with that place. And when he saw her he waved at her and smiled so she covered her mouth. She automatically retreated to where she stood and decided to go to the restroom.

"where are you going?"

"Ahhhh, Frog!" Jean jumped in shock because suddenly the man was next to her and he was also shocked like her.

"Why are you shouting?" he asked her irritably when he recovered from her silence.

"Because you surprised me there."

She laughed a little at what the man said and was really surprised. Shouldn't she be the one to say that. She couldn't fully imagine the speed of her heart beating like lightning at the speed that the man reached her side while he was just in the lobby earlier and was sitting relaxed on the sofa.

"Hmmmp, Leave it here. Don't follow me!" she said annoyed and quickly entered the restroom before she could say anything to her.

She dropped her bag on the side of the sink with a bang as she entered the restroom. That man is starting to get on her nerves. However, she tried to calm herself down. Maybe she didn't go there on purpose. After a while she calmed down.

After calming down, she straightened herself up and left the restroom. She was surprised that she didn't see the man in the lobby but because of that she breathed a sigh of relief that she was no longer in her sight. It means that he is not aiming for me there.

She just ordered the guard to get a taxi for her and wait for her outside the building. The opening of the building is also quite far from the highway.

The ride home to her house is only twenty two minutes, so she can rest in just a few moments.

She felt very tired from what happened today. But isn't that what she really wants to happen to come home tired every day? Because then she falls asleep quickly and she can't think about anything else.

"I thought you would never come out."

Jean quickly covered her mouth and looked at the man. This man's attitude really surprising?

In a mixture of anger and shock, she accepted it and then asked.

"What do you really want? are you really following me? and why are you following me? What do you want, huh?"

"Don't be mad, please I won't do anything bad to you. Even I'm following you."

"So, are you really following me?

Jean was even more annoyed when the man admitted that he was really following her. And it wasn't even shaken by the anger she was showing on him. He seemed to be happy to see her angry because he was still smiling. She clenched her hands.

"Yes, you're right."

She was surprised by the man's direct confession.

"Why are you following me?" she asked.

But before the man could answer, the guard approached her to take a taxi.

"Ma'am, the taxi is waiting." the guard told her.

"It's a plague." Jean said to the guard. Then she looked at the man and hurriedly walked towards the taxi. Maybe later it turns out that she has a bad plan for her that's why he follows her.

"Wait, wait Miss!" he called to her and quickly blocked her path.

Just a little bit more and I will really hurt him.

"What? What do you need from me?" We don't know each other, so I don't know anything we should talk about!"

"I'm sorry, and I hope you'll forgive me, I'm Emmanuel."

He said this while extending his hand in front of her.

Jean frowned. Shaking her head, she walked past the man and was sure that this man was really crazy.

She got into the parked taxi but before she could close the door, the man was already holding my door.

"Wait, can you listen to me first?"

She wouldn't listen to the man anymore but there was something in the man's eyes that she couldn't explain what it was. Maybe a sense of familiarity.

Jean sighed.

"Uncle, just wait a second," she pleaded with the driver, then got out of the taxi again and confronted the man. She looked him straight in the eyes that in the end she wanted to regret. She wanted to look back but she couldn't because there was something in his eyes that made her seem like she was stuck staring at them.

"I need your help." it says it straight.

"What kind of help?" She thought carefully about what help he was talking about but she couldn't really imagine what help he needed from her.

"Because I have nowhere to live. I just arrived in this place and I don't know anyone except you. Can I come with you?"

Jean was really surprised by what the man said to her. Did she hear right? He wants to go with her because he has nowhere to live?

She carefully examined the man from head to toe. The same long sleeved polo and slacks he was wearing this morning is what he is wearing now. And she thinks that what the man is saying is vague because from the looks of it, he looks like a businessman and he attends the board meeting and goes home when he is supposed to be in a wealthy condominium.

Jean looked around to see if he was a member of a gang and their modus operandi was to pretend to be a stranger and settle down. Perhaps he has colleagues around and the plan is to convince her to take him to her house. And then they will break into her house to rob her, so she won't allow what this man is planning to happen.

Jean shook her head and then backed away.

"Just find someone else to fool because I know very well that style of fooling people. That's your modus. You thought, huh!" At a quarter to one, Jean got back into the taxi but quickly blocked the taxi door.

"Trust me please no one can help me but you. I'm not a cheater. I'm not a bad person. I promise I'll never hurt you."

Surprised, Jean looked at the man and saw the sincerity in what he was telling her.

"Please, I'm not really a bad person," he begged again.

Jean sees only one thing in the man's eyes, That is nothing else but honesty.

Even before she realized what was happening, she saw herself trusting in it.
