Shocked, Anders' brows pull together at the information he’d just heard. But he is even more shocked when Electra suddenly grabs the lapels of his suit jacket, stirs him towards her and locks her lips with his.

His surprise only lasts for a brief second as he gets into the kiss. His hand circles to the slim of her waist and he pulls her in, closing whatever distance lay between them. He deepens the kiss, savouring the taste of her.

Damn! She tastes divine. And she fits perfectly in his hold. Why is he thinking this?

The smell of her perfume fills his nostrils, making him forget he is supposed to be pretending. He inhales sharply, feasting on the intoxicating aroma. Involuntarily, his hand begins to journey down the flare of her hips.

He is quite disappointed when Electra pulls away. Her face flushes and her lips red and swollen from the kiss. His gaze lingers on her, darkening as he reads the effect of their proximity in her eyes. She is aroused.

Not wanting to confront what just happened between them, Electra turns to Karl.

“You were saying?” She asks in a breathless tone. Her hand finds Anders’ elbow and she loops her hand in them, holding him close.

Anders tugs his jacket, smoothing the creasing that formed from Electra’s pull. His intimidating gaze rests on Karl.

“Sir.” Karl calls respectfully. He forces a smile at them, nods before he leaves. But Anders doesn't miss the anger that flashes across his eyes.

Anders’ gaze wanders about the hall. The pair of eyes looking in their direction is a testament that their little display was very entertaining.

He looks down at Electra. “What was that about?”

“Just doing my assignment. I’m your girlfriend, remember?” She is wearing a false smile.

“Not that. I mean with Karl.” He clarifies.

“Well, you heard him.”

“He’s your boyfriend?” The sheer perplexity in Anders’ voice cannot be missed.

“Ex. He’s my Ex.”

Anders flashes his brows. “You had a boyfriend?”

She doesn't get to respond.

“There you are!”

Anders is pissed with the distraction, but Electra is grateful for it. Karl is a past she doesn't like to discuss.

Simultaneously, they turn in the direction of the voice. Anders rushes to the older woman who comes to stand by them.

“Granny, you shouldn’t be moving around too much.” He scolds and Electra catches the worry in his voice.

“I was eager to see my future daughter-in-law.” The old lady says. She turns her gaze towards Electra and smiles warmly at her.

Daughter in-law? The title sends a cold shiver down Electra’s spine.

“Granny, this is Electra.” Anders introduces as he moves to hold Electra. Electra stills from the contact. He's close. Too close.

“Electra, my granny” He forces a smile.

Granny’s smile widens. “I’m Laurel.” She says.

Electra steps closer, smiling at her. “Ma’am.” She calls with a slight bow of her head in greeting.

“You don’t have to be so formal with me! We’re practically family!... And I heard the good news.” Grandma Laurel beams with excitement. “But I'm not happy that I had to hear it from outsiders first.”

Electra passes a look to Anders. The expression on his face reveals that he knows nothing about the good news Laurel is talking about.

“What good news, granny?” Anders asks.

“You asked Electra to move in with you!” Sheer joy lit the woman’s voice. Her eyes sparkled with lively excitement.

Anders furrows his brows. “What?”

“Everyone is talking about it.” Granny says, and looks around the hall.

Anders looks around. The few gazes he catches, glint with amusement, confirming Granny's words.

Electra’s wide surprised eyes rest on Anders. Her mouth parts as her shock intensifies when she sights someone approaching them.

“Dad?” Electra calls as her father appears behind Laurel. He smiles at her. “What are you doing here?”

“I invited him.” Laurel supplies. “He is family too. He should be here.” Laurel says.

Electra’s father, Kleon, was a good friend to Laurel's husband. Although there was a huge gap in their age difference, Laurel's husband considered Kleon his equal and they had a good relationship. And even after his death, Laurel maintained that relationship with Karl.

When Laurel's son and his wife met with the unfortunate accident that took their life, she promised them on their deathbed that she would ensure Anders marries right this time.

After several, countless failed blind dates, he decides to set Anders up with Kleon’s daughter. Kleon was thrilled and revealed he had been trying to get a good man for his daughter.

Laurel was more than happy when they interpreted that Anders takes an interest in Electra. Her husband would be pleased too if he were here. Now she can die peacefully.

Electra swallows. Her father moves to shake Anders’ hand. Anders takes his hand and nods courteously.

“I didn’t think my baby girl would be leaving me so soon..You're moving really fast.” Kleon strikes a conversation with Anders.

Granny chuckles. “Better fast than slow. I think this would let them know each other faster and better.” Laurel contributes. She is overjoyed about this.

“Have you told him about your new job at Brimstone architectures?” Kleon asks.

“She got the job?” Laurel squeals.

“Yes. She's the new in-house architect for Brimstone.” Kleon says and pats Electra's back proudly.

“Congratulations.” Laurel says to Electra. “They're not only moving in together, and she's got a new job. How wonderful!” She claps her hand together. “If things continue to go at this pace, I won't be surprised if we start planning a wedding by next month.” She finishes with a laugh.

Kleon joins her. Electra lets out a nervous chuckle and Anders' hard expression doesn't stir.

Anders glances at Electra. Their eyes met. They know they are stuck.

Anders cannot break Granny's heart by telling her they are not moving in together.

Electra is too terrified to break her father's heart and let him find out she's nothing like the daughter he'd envisioned.

“You're not safe here.” Worry clothes her voice. The urgency of the situation presses down on her.“It's nothing to worry about.” Even he doesn't believe himself.“Yeah.” Electra nods. “That’s very comforting.”Nikas doesn't miss her sarcasm. “There are guards here, Electra.”“And there were no guards when this happened?” She fires back.“When do I get to see your boyfriend?”“Don't. Don't do that.”He titters. They both know what he's doing. “You're hiding him from me now?”She glares at him. His eyes twinkle with mischief and amusement. They keep at it. She sighs resignedly. He wins.“I hate it when you do that.” She says.“You're cute when you do that.” He returns. She smiles and shakes her head. She'll let it go. Only for now.“Paul let me use his bike while he's out of town.” She beams excitedly, following his switch in discussion.“Oh!” Nikas smiles. His sister loves to ride just as much as he does. “How long would he be gone for?”Electra shrugs. “He didn't say. He just told m

“Place your phone, keys and any metal you have on you here.” The officer slides a metal tray over to Electra. This is the last security check Electra has to go through before she can enter the prison. She does as she is told, going as far as removing her pant belt, placing it in the tray before she steps through the metal detector. This is a routine she’s used to. She gains an entry pass when the machine makes no noise. The officer nods for her to go on.She walks into the state prison, her heart beating fast against her chest. This isn’t her first time here. She comes here every other week when she can get away from her father. Living with Anders eliminates the eagle eyes of her father watching her every move. But it doesn’t eliminate the racing in her heart; not the heaviness she feels whenever she comes here; not the memories of her life. Her hard life without her brother. Her shield. She stills herself and forces a smile over her face as she catches sight of him. Another officer

She says her greetings and places some files in front of Anders.Just as she parts her lips to begin speaking, his phone chimes. He raises a finger to silence her and takes the call.“Granny.” A smile forms on his lips. His voice is warm and tender. His smile lingers as he exchanges more pleasantries with Laurel. They talk about her health and other things. Then Anders goes silent. His brows knit with attention and slowly, a scowl forms over his expression.“When?” He asks, trying to keep the irk out of his voice. “Okay. I'll let her know.” He says, and the call ends.He turns his attention to Julia again. Anders sits

Anders jogs down the sidewalk towards his house. Perspiration covers his skin- a testament to the energy expended during his run. This is routine. Going for a run in the wee hours of the morning. It is his way of having the right start to his day. From his vantage point, he has a clear view of his apartment. It is a beautiful house, a modern design with unique architectural structure, and that's why he had purchased the property. He reaches his front porch in no time.Still panting from his run, he checks his smartwatch and smiles to himself at the accomplishment. He did half a mile more than yesterday’s run. He checks the time; 7am. Just in time. Today can’t start any better. But that soon changes as he steps inside the house. His breath catches, not from his run but from the fear that immediately fills him. There is smoke everywhere. His only rational explanation; Fire! His house is burning! He doubles his pace, runs inside the house in panic. Electra! His mind hits him with the

Electra bites her tongue all through the list of rules Anders dishes. Don't go here, don't do this, don't touch that. He even goes as far as giving her a curfew. She excuses him as this is his house. He can do however he pleases. At least that’s what her father used to say. But the next rule is a stab she can't ignore.“You'll cook the meals…”“Cook what meals?” She cuts him. “You want me to cook for you?” Electra yelps. Anders cocks his brow at her, wondering what he may have said wrong. She huffs out a breath. “You should have outrightly told me you wanted a maid.”“If you choose to adopt that title, I can't stop you. As long as you're happy, pumpkin.”She hisses and grounds her teeth. “You’re out to make my living here hell for me, aren’t you?”“You threatened to fuck this up and let me watch my granny…” He doesn't finish.Shock registers over Electra's face. He did the same thing to her. “So this is payback? Your way of punishing me?”“No. I'm not that petty.” Anders smiles. “Co

Orion stands by the door to Anders’ house, ready to bolt if Anders comes at him again. He holds the handle, an apologetic look sits on his face.“I didn't know Maria would take me seriously and tell everyone about it.” He explains.“Maria is a gossip. You should know better than to tell her anything. I mean anything!” Anders grits. Now he knows the source of the rumors. Orion had playfully told the office gossip that Anders was taking things seriously with Electra. A piece of news was all Maria ever needed to create a vivid imagination of her own. And she never hesitated to spread what she thinks.“You could have said no.” Orion offers. The look Anders dashes him, has him thinning his lips and swallowing the words right back.Anders cannot say no to Granny. Not at this time.“So when does she move in?” Orion asks. He gets back inside the house. Anders has taken a seat on his couch.“Today.” His response is filled with horror.“Great! This house could use a feminine touch.”Anders glar
