Astrid’s POV

If someone had told me that my life would spiral this badly in less than twenty-four hours, I would have laughed in their face.

But now, I couldn’t even laugh.

I sat stiffly in my seat, my pen hovering over my notebook, pretending to take notes while my mind replayed one thing over and over again.

Astrid’s POVIf someone had told me that my life would spiral this badly in less than twenty-four hours, I would have laughed in their face. But now, I couldn’t even laugh.I sat stiffly in my seat, my pen hovering over my notebook, pretending to take notes while my mind replayed one thing over and over again. That stupid, impulsive and humiliating comment I had posted under Ocean’s post was still fresh in my head. My phone had died before I could delete it and coincidentally, there was a black out that plunged the dormitory into total darkness. My battery was still dead which meant the comment was still there.Merely thinking about it was mortifying. I squeezed my eyes shut briefly, dragging in a slow breath as Ms. Torres' voice droned on in the background. My fingers tightened around my pen as I forced myself to look down at my notes, even though the words blurred together.Ms. Torres was rounding off the lecture when the door creaked open.At first, no one paid attention but wh

Astrid’s POVThe moment Reis’s fingers wrapped around my wrist, stopping me from pulling my phone away, something shifted in the air between us.My eyes flicked up to his face, searching, and studying. His usual confidence, the one he wore like armor was cracked. It was barely noticeable if you didn’t know him well enough.“Are you alright?” I asked softly, my voice careful, like I was walking around broken glass. He nodded, then muttered, “Yeah, I’m fine.”He wasn’t. I could see it in the way his jaw tightened and in the way his fingers loosened their grip on me like he suddenly realized what he was doing.Slowly, he pulled his hand away.I swallowed, pulling my phone back to myself, my appetite completely gone. The food in front of me might as well have been cardboard.“I think I’m done,” I murmured.Reis didn’t argue and that alone was strange.Normally, he would have teased me, insisted I eat more, made some joke to lighten the mood but he did nothing. “Yeah… me too.” He mumble

Reis’s POVThe moment I saw him sitting several tables away from us, something in me snapped. It was not visible, but inside, it was instant, sharp and violent.Ocean was here of all places and all times. Instead, I leaned back slightly in my chair, keeping my expression neutral as my eyes flicked toward Astrid.Right now, I cared about her reaction and I got it.Her shoulders tensed first, then her grip on the table tightened. Her eyes…God, her eyes. They flickered with something I couldn’t quite name.Panic?Guilt?Something in between. My jaw tightened. So that’s what this was.I felt something bitter settle in my chest, but I swallowed it down, forcing my face to remain calm and casual like I didn’t care.Like it didn’t matter that the guy I hated most in the world was in the same room as us.Astrid breathing had changed. It had become faster and shallow now. Her eyes weren’t focused anymore. She wasn’t here with me, she was somewhere else entirely. She was probably thinking a

Astrid’s POV“Don’t go.”Dawn’s voice followed me like a shadow as I stood in front of the mirror, adjusting my top for what felt like the tenth time.“I mean it, Astrid,” she added, folding her arms tightly across her chest. “This is a bad idea.”I exhaled slowly, smoothing down the fabric like it would somehow calm the storm inside me.“Nothing is going to happen,” I said, meeting her eyes through the mirror. “We’re just talking.”She scoffed, pushing herself off the bed.“You don’t ‘just talk’ with your ex, especially not that ex.” She drawled so the words would sink in. “I’m not getting back with him.” I replied, turning around to get my back. “That’s not what I’m worried about.”“Then what are you worried about?” I asked, a little more sharply than I intended. She hesitated before she answered and that alone made my stomach twist.“You’re in too deep,” she said finally. “With both of them.”I froze for half a second then forced a small laugh.“That’s dramatic.”“No, it’s not,”

Ocean’s POVLong after her message came in, I was still staring at my phone. The screen was still lit up, her message sitting there like it weighed more than it should. Her response was simple, casual and harmless but it didn’t feel harmless. It felt like a door closing softly, not slammed but closed all the same. Pushing my hand into my hair, I leaned back into the couch, my jaw tightening as I read it again and again like the meaning would change if I stared long enough.“She said no, didn’t she?” Calvin’s voice cut through my thoughts.I didn’t look at him or answer either which, apparently, was answer enough. He let out a low whistle from where he was sprawled across the other end of the couch, one arm thrown over his head like he had all the time in the world.“Ouch.”“Shut up,” I muttered, finally locking my phone and tossing it onto the coffee table. He sat up immediately, his eyes lighting up with amusement.“Oh, it’s bad.”“It’s not bad.”“You look like someone just told yo

Chapter 31Astrid’s POVSleep came in pieces. It was not the deep and peaceful kind that wrapped around you and pulled you under, but the restless kind where your mind never really shut off. I lay curled on my side, my blanket half tangled around my legs and my face buried into my pillow as faint sunlight filtered through the thin curtains of our dorm.My head was still heavy, not from alcohol this time but from everything else.Ocean, Reis, Caitlin and that picture.God, that picture.Even in my half-asleep state, I could still see it so clearly.Ocean and Reis standing side by side and smiling like they didn’t hate each other. And that third boy in the background, the one who looked so much like Ocean…The thought barely had time to settle before my phone rang. The sound cut through the quiet like a blade making me groan softly as I shifted deeper into my pillow, trying to ignore it.Whoever it was could wait as I wasn’t in the mood.My phone kept ringing. It was relentless, annoy

Astrid’s POVThe next morning felt unreal. It was as if the world had moved forward while I had stayed frozen somewhere in the middle of last night. The campus looked the same as always. Students walked through the gates in clusters, laughing, talking, complaining about assignments and professors.

Ocean’s POVBy the time I pushed through the club doors, she was gone. The cold night air hit me like a slap, sharp and grounding, but it did nothing to slow the restless energy coursing through my body. The music from the club still thumped faintly behind me, muffled by the heavy doors, but outsi

Astrid’s POV“Hey, relax,” Ocean cooed, tightening his grip on me. “I'm relaxed,” I lied through my teeth and he knew it. The moment we reached the entrance of the club, I knew I had made a mistake which was too late to correct now. The bass from the music was pulsing through the floor beneath m

Astrid’s POVThe city lights blurred past the window like streaks of liquid gold. Finally, Ocean was satisfied with my look and now we are on our way to wherever he was taking me to. Pressing my lips into a thin line, I kept my eyes fixed on my phone, pretending to scroll through messages I wasn’t
