Rune’s POV

My fiancé is a bottom.

There are a number of things I never imagined I’d ever see. Werewolves. Sparkly vampires. Aliens. The list goes on.

At the top of that list is Anslem, my beloved fiancé, getting railed on the floor of my apartment by a man.

His stepbrother.

The cold air that was around me seconds ago transferred to my veins.

My chest tightened, squeezing off the air flow in to my lungs. The bright smile on my face froze faster than water outside the harsh winter.

I tried to inhale and it sounded like a weak doorknob rattling in my throat.

Anslem. The man I believed was the love of my life. The one I was about to introduce to my family tomorrow — Christmas day— as my fiancé. The man I’m supposed to get married to by Valentine’s Day next year.

“F-fuck! Baby… I’m— you’re so big…” Anslem moaned, his legs pressed to his chest, his cheeks flushed a dark crimson and eyes rolled back in pleasure.

He’s never had such a look of pleasure before, not even when I did all I could to please him.

“Yeah, you like that huh? You filthy little bitch,” Chris, his stepbrother, threw his head back and groaned as his dick continued to ram into Anslem.

This can’t be happening.

My heart felt like it had split in half and splattered on the floors. This is a bad dream. Yea. I got hit by a truck on my way home and now I’m dreaming up Anslem cheating on me.

He would never. He loves me!

“Shit—“ Chris growled. “Gonna fill you up with my cum. Take it, alright?”

Anslem whimpered.

He fucking whimpered.

My vision turned blurry and I realized I was crying. My lips parted and I exhaled shakily.

“Anslem, r-really?”

His head snapped over to me. His eyes, the beauty golden brown eyes I always admired, widened. “Rune!” He gasped, pushing Chris off him and scrambling for his discarded clothes. He jumped into his pants and rushed over to me. “What the fuck?! When did you get in?!”

I scoffed. “That’s what you’re asking right now?” I looked behind him at Chris who was casually and calmly putting his clothes back on. “This…this isn’t what it looks like, right?”

“Are you fucking blind?” Chris asked with annoyance in his voice. He rolled his eyes, glaring at me coldly. “Fucks sake. I was so close. Talk about cockblocker of the year.”

I blinked rapidly, as if doing so would make this all clearer to me.

Chris has never liked me, that I knew. He never hid it either. He’s always been testy whenever he saw me with Anslem. I believed it’s because he was a protective older brother.

Little did I know.

Anslem reached out to grab my arm and I reeled back like his touch was acid. “Don’t…just don’t. We’re engaged, Anslem. Tomorrow…you agreed to meet my parents for Christmas and tell them that—“

“Look, Rune, I’m sorry. Okay. I’m really sorry. But this little fantasy of yours is not working anymore. Seriously. Didn’t you notice just once?”

“Notice that you were gay?!”

He ran his fingers through his damp blond hair and sighed. “To think you had a 4.0 gpa in college. Why did you even date me? Huh?”

“Because I loved you!” I screamed at him. Tears blurred my vision and my chest heaved with each breath I forced down my lungs. “Didn’t you ever love me too? For three years, Anslem. Three fucking years. You never thought to tell me you were gay?!”

“The signs were all there, Rune. You were blind to them! I gagged every fucking time I touched you!”

My knees went weak and I stumbled back, grabbing onto the closest object which happened to be a table. His words felt like a jab to my heart.

Anslem stared me up and down, pity swimming in his eyes. “If anything I’m glad. I’m really fucking glad I don’t have to hide anymore.”

I laughed.

It was more less out of mirth and more out of disbelief.

“My goodness. You couldn’t even face me and tell it to my face what you’re not attracted to me. You decided to…how long has this been going on?”

“Years, darling.” Chris drawled behind him. "Take a guess."

Anslem had the good graces left to look ashamed.

I brushed my hand over my face and sighed. “You know, if you had told me—“”

“What? Rune? What would you have done? Wished the gay away?”

My hand moved.

I slapped him right across the face with all the anger and spite I could muster.

My body trembled and I felt nausea rise in my gut. His head whipped to the side and he brought a hand up to his cheek which was turning red with a print of my palm.

“Fuck you.” I hissed at him.

“Hey, hey,” Chris walked up to him and stood between us. He glared down at me with hatred in his dark eyes. “Get the fuck out now. Damn it, you’re so fucking crazy. Get out.”

“This is my apartment!” I hissed at him, getting his gaze with hatred of mine.

“Baby, it’s okay,” Anslem said softly.

For a second, I thought he was talking to me. Then he put his hand on Chris’s shoulder and gently nudged him back.

That was the final straw.

A sob welled in my throat. It hurt to swallow it down, but the last thing I wanted was to sob in front of these idiots.

“I’m glad I never introduced you to my parents.” I said to Anslem. “I hate you. And I wish I never see you again.”

“Rune, there’s no need to be dramatic. Please, it’s not like this sham of a relationship didn’t drain me too.”

Sham of a relationship.

Coming from the man who was by my side all the time. Who brought me coffee whenever I had a late case to crack at work. The man who kissed me whenever he could, who told me how much he loved me and how he couldn’t wait to be my husband.

All this time, he thought of our relationship as a sham.

Words couldn’t begin to describe how painful it was.

RUNEI did my best to bite back a smirk as I hurried after Xavier. It wasn't my plan to meet with Ben, a friend of mine from highschool, but it was absolutely my plan to piss Xavier off. After last night, after he edged me till I fucking cried and then walked off like nothing happened, yeah. I'm not just going to let him go scott free. My heels ached, running across the parking lot just to keep up with his long strides was taxing at best. He got to the car opened the backdoor. "Get in."I shuffled my weight, pretending to be deep in thought. "I actually want to sit beside you," I said, offering him a bright smile. "That way we can talk about Mr Bayer's case?"His eyes narrowed, a dark gold today. I've stopped thinking about why his eyes does the colour changing thing, it's much better that way. "Fine." He said, closing the door. I noticed how, even though he looked very pissed, he didn't slam the door. Gosh, he looks so hot when he's pissed. Should I do this more often? Rile him

XAVIER"There has been a slight change in your schedule, sir. Franklin Bayer called, requesting an urgent meeting." Rune's voice carried steadily, but she didn't do a good job at hiding the annoyance in her tone. Franklin Bayer? That slimy fellow. I bet my fortune he has gotten himself into trouble."Should I cancel it?" Rune asked. I looked up at her. My throat tightened. The dark material of her blouse clung to her shapely body, one button undone showing a tantalising flash of her collarbone. She liked to wear tight blouses, I had no issues with that. However today, it's almost like she's doing this for a purpose.Payback for yesterday?Ah. My kitten finally brandishes her claws. She blinked at me, her beautiful eyes seemingly oblivious to the fire she's stirring in me. "Is anything the problem, sir?" She glanced down at her outfit. "Did I do something wrong?"Like hell she doesn't know. "No. You didn't do anything wrong." I replied, clearing my throat. "Don't cancel Franklin's

RUNE"Whoever said I was giving it to you?" Xavier asked, his steady hands on my shoulders and pulling me away. I whined, chasing after his lips only to fall a few centimeters short. "Did I do something wrong?""Did you?"My stomach twisted as the answer made itself known to me. "Let me make it up to you then," as I said those words, my eyes went to the noticeable bulge in his pants. I had yet to see him...all of him. My core clenched and I swallowed thickly. "Please?" I asked, batting my lashes at him in my best attempt of seduction. He chuckled, seeming amused. "That's it?"Feeling bolder, I leaned closer to him. "Do you have a better idea? Let me guess, you want to spank me?""Tempting. But no, you'll go back to your bad habits once I'm done."His words made me pout. "No fair. Let's try something else then?" I trailed my hand down from his chest, down to his cock. I palmed him through his pants, keeping my expression coy. His hand came up and closed around my neck. Not hard en

RUNEI’m going to catch a cold. That cold will become something worse and I will develop a terminal illness and die. My phone vibrated. I glanced down at the rain slicked screen, my heart twisting in my chest. Xavier. He’s been calling all day. Since I left Annabelle’s house. I haven’t had the heart to pick his calls. It’s night now, I think it’s past ten. I watched this one ring out. My phone pinged with a battery low notification. I watched it countdown, wondering for a second how I would reach help if my phone died and I was here, all alone by the roadside, soaked and still sitting in the rain. I’ve cried so much that my head hurt and all my tears dried up. Yet it didn’t feel enough. My tears aren’t enough to remedy this. Nor is the cold seeping into my marrows. Annabelle’s words repeat in my head like a cursed mantra. Get off your high horse. You’re arrogant. You thought you’d get to be a savior. I don’t know why her words hurt so much when I know they aren’t true. I did

RUNEAnslem glanced at his watch and shook his head. “I’m sorry, baby. As much as I’d love to catch up with you, my lunch break is almost over.” He said sweetly, as if nothing had happened. “W-what?” I asked, blinking. “You’re…you’re not burned?”He touched his cheek. “I guess so.”What is going on?Who heals that fast? And especially from a burn? That’s not normal. That’s not supposed to happen. What’s even worse is how calm and collected he is. I stared at him, my brain running helter skelter, trying to piece together or at least come up with an explanation for what the hell just happened. Anslem smiled at me, blew a kiss, and walked out of the cafe, leaving me standing there dumbfounded like an idiot. I slowly lowered myself back into my seat. A waitress came up to my table, apologizing as she cleaned up the broken mug. “Is everything okay?” Brandon asked. I had even forgotten he was here. “It’s fine,” I breathed, trying to pull myself together. I’ll worry about Anslem late

RUNEThree days later, it was like nothing ever happened. Creighton Law Firm moved operations to a secondary location in the heart of the city, one that was even bigger, and more equipped than the previous one. Construction started on the burned building, and it was going to be turned into a sort of mall. In just a day, everyone seemed to recover. By three days, it was like what had happened, the literal building burning to the ground, was nothing more than a small but inconvenient change in the weather. I couldn’t understand it. And I honestly felt too shy to ask, like I would be seen as a crazy woman if I started asking everyone “why did we recover so fast?”I tried to reach Marcella but her phone wasn’t going through. Dylan said she was fine, that she spoke with him that same day. I wished I could speak to her, so I’d ask her myself what the hell was going through her mind when she did it. The biggest change of all, was Xavier. After visiting Annabelle, I didn’t know how to fa
