‘Xavier Blackwood was a terrible choice, Harper.’

I looked at the picture of me and Xavier Melissa showed me on her phone. It was taken last night, with the ring glittering on my finger. The ring I still wore.

‘I have my reasons,’ I looked away, feeling Melissa’s eyes still on me.

‘You know I’d always look out for you, Harps,’ Melissa said. ‘Still in that same circle of family? Horrendous idea.’

‘At least mom’s bills are being paid,’ I avoided her gaze.

HarperI didn’t stop him.Even when I remembered the agreement; the emotional impact it would have on me later on.I didn’t stop him because I didn’t want to. I was wet, shivering and my body ached for more of his touch, his lips…‘Xavier…’ I whispered his name again, a silent plea building up within me.‘Don’t do that,’ his voice dropped. ‘Don’t say my name like that unless you’re ready for what comes next.’I raised my hands to his chest, feeling his body hard under that wet clothing. He was so close I could feel everything: from his musky scent to how hard he was. And I wanted it all.He drew closer, as if testing how far he could go. I felt his lips before they reached mine, and it almost did.‘Xavier!’ Terese’s voice called out from outside the bedroom, followed by a sharp knock on the door.We paused, our breath coming in shallows.Xavier looked at me, his eyes still dark and wanting. I also wanted more, even if I shouldn’t.‘Xavier!’ Terese called out again.‘Coming,’ Xavier r

  • Faking It With The CEO   Chapter Eighteen

XavierIf there was one thing I was sure of, it was that nothing was certain. And driving over to meet me my father, that belief struck again like the Tower clock at midnight.Father had called me for an important discussion this morning, and although my anxiety had skyrocketed, I had composed myself enough to linger at home before going there. An hour to two of lateness could count as good composure. Stan was already there when I walked into the office, standing by the floor-to-ceiling window. When he turned and saw me, a sneer spread across his face, but he remained calm and controlled as usual.‘You’re late,’ my father’s voice cut through the room before I could say a word.‘Traffic,’ I slipped my hands into my pockets.‘You’re never one for giving excuses, Xavier,’ he didn’t look up from the file in front of him. ‘Don’t start now. Sit.’Stan ambled towards me, an amused expression on his face. Of course, he was enjoying this.As we both sat side by side, Father closed the file a

HarperThe flowers that arrived the next morning were unprecedented. After signing and receiving them, I carried them to the kitchen where Xavier was having his breakfast, and Terese was still conjuring up something from the pot.‘I didn’t know your mom sends you flowers,’ Xavier laughed.‘It’s not from my mom,’ I groaned as I placed the flowers on the counter.‘Well, don’t add them to my food,’ Terese turned to glare at me.‘I’m sorry,’ I shifted it away from her. ‘So who sent it?’ Xavier asked.I checked around the wrapping until I saw a piece of cars stacked with a string. It read: HI. IT’S THE GUY WITH THE GLASSES. HOPE THESE MAKE YOU SMILE. YOU LOOKED LIKE YOU NEEDED IT-JOSH.‘It’s from a friend,’ I said to Xavier, a small smile tugging at the corners of my lips. The flowers were a mixture of daffodils, pink carnations, and light purple lavender sprigs. They weren’t much but they were beautiful.‘So we’re having friends now?’ Xavier’s tone lost the joke it had once carried w

I never knew Stan had a brother.’‘I didn’t either,’ I shook my head. ‘He just appeared out of the blue and…’‘All the more reason why you should know this is a bad idea; because whatever reason made him go extinct at that point must have been a very good reason.’‘He didn’t go extinct, Mel. He just…didn’t exist then…’ those words came out as a question.‘The Prince of Wales would’ve been a better choice than a twenty-first-century Casanova

  • Faking It With The CEO   Chapter Fifteen

XavierI had wanted her more than I’d wanted any other woman. Her scent, her soft moans, the way her smooth hands moved her around my body…It was invigorating. And I wanted more. With the frustration eating up inside me, I left the guest room and walked straight to our bedroom- as she had called it.Our.I was ready to take her, feel her in places I’d never felt her, make her lose control. But once I opened the door, I noticed she had fallen asleep on the bed, the robe she wore showing more skin than I could stand. She looked so calm, beautiful, almost like something ethereal. Seeing her like this made me wonder how Stan could fathom hurting someone like this. But, of course, he didn’t love her. He never did. Harper didn’t know it yet, but I was the reason he had married her in the first place.Because of me.I gently covered her with the duvet, and headed to the other side of the bed. But I couldn’t sleep; I needed a drink so bad.Even if it was just a sip. After few minutes of batt

  • Faking It With The CEO   Chapter Fourteen

Harper I had walked away again, and I regretted it. All my life, I had walked away from confrontations; even my marriage. But I knew this last time I should have stood up for myself; I should have looked Mrs. Hart in her face and said what needed to be said. But I had simply walked away. With a deep sigh, I hugged my hands around my body, feeling the night air brush my skin with a light chill. Sitting on a bench, overlooking the city’s night landscape, I felt a bit better. Calmer. I didn’t know what to think anymore, so I decided not to reminisce and just enjoy the view. ‘You look like you’re about to freeze.’ I turned around at the sound of a male voice, and I saw a man standing behind me. His metal-rimmed glasses flickered in the street light, and although he was tall, he stooped over a bit as he spoke to me. ‘I’m fine,’ I shook my head, but I was done talking before he pulled off his coat and draped it around my shoulders. ‘There you go,’ a faint smile passed his lips. ‘W
