Chapter 4

Chresanto’s Pov

As soon as I stepped into my office, my cell phone beeped causing me to pull my eyes away from the file on the desk.

“Sir the new employees await you at the conference hall” Josh my secretary reminded me.

I had just arrived from the CEO’s breakfast meeting, which was said to be a compulsory meeting for all CEOS. Josh stated it was a grand way of announcing that I was the new CEO of Lightwood Company.

I had all weekends to study all about Lightwood Company and I was glad I already had working experience else it would have been hard taking over the company just like dad had stated.

“Sir” Josh called again in a firm tone.

“Lead the way” I told him ignoring the message I had received earlier on my cell phone while I walked behind Josh who was already a few feet’s ahead of me.

We took the private elevator down to the seventh floor and headed straight to the conference room.

The meeting went on for about thirty minutes, at first I was clueless as to how to address the employees but then I was able to with the help of Josh.

Just as the meeting ended and I was about to leave. The sight of someone’s face smudged with lipstick caught my attention, she obviously tried to wash it off but it didn’t come off.

I bit my lips holding back laughter while I took the elevator back to my floor.

Immediately I arrived at my office I slumped into my chair exhaustedly as I had nothing scheduled until 4pm.

I heard faint knock on my door before it opened widely revealing the least person I expected and wanted to see.

“Chresanto” Bella rushed to meet me, sat of my laps and crushed her chest into mine, breathing heavily into my neck.

“Bella” I replied through gritted teeth, while I pulled her away from me up to her feet.

“I heard from your dad you got back, how long has it been? Four to five years?” She asked “And it took you this long to request to see me” She added while her hands folded under her breast akimbo.

I had almost told her I still didn’t ask her to come see me but then I kept my mouth shut. I didn’t want to hurt her even further “It’s been a while” I told her while I pointed for her to sit and she did without hesitation.

“Five years isn’t just a while Chres” She told me clearly angry.

“I should have called” I told her sincerely.

“You should have answered your phone when I called” She lashed back, her eyes now seemed red like she was going to break down any minute from now “For Christ sake Chres we are engaged, to be married” She said in a tone that stated clearly that it was a reminder in case I had forgotten.

I loosened the tie from my neck in a frustrated manner while I ran my hand through my hair, messing it up in the process “We both know what this marriage is Bella” I reminded her.

“Is that it? That is your excuse?” Her eyebrows drew very much closer and already visible tears which she had tried to hide earlier on tickled down her cheeks, her shoulders raised and dropped heavily.

I stood from where I sat and advanced towards her, when I reached her I bent to her level, wiping off her tears with one hand and further patting her hair with the other.

“I’m sorry” I whispered into her ears silently while her tears increased even further.

“You say this and then you act differently, I’m sick of all this Chres” Bella spoke up after her tears had subsided.

“Maybe we should take a break” I told her while I moved away from her.

“A break?” She jumped to her feet like there was something else in the chair “We’ve literally had five years break and how much break do you need?” She asked with raised voice.

Just then I was thankful the walls were sound proof, a woman drama on my first day at work would be a bad start as a CEO.

“Or we might as well put an end to all of this, to us” I told her more in a suggestive tone, the look in her eyes changed to something I couldn’t put a hand to, something anyone should be afraid of.

“There is no end to us Chres, you know better than this” She warned as if reminding me of the situation.

“Leave” I breath out while my hand ran through my hair again “I have something important scheduled for later and I want to be of a clear mind when I do attend” I told her while I took my seat.

She looked like she was going to hesitate but then she didn’t “I’ll wait for you at home” She told me when she got to the door.

“Don’t” I told her just as she was about to go out the door “I’m not sure when I’ll be back home, I’ll call you when I’m done” I told her while she walked out without saying a word.

I released a sharp breath I didn’t know I  was holding after she had left, while I closed the laptop in front of me angrily, some few buttons fell off in the process.

The door opened revealing  Josh, his eyes roamed around my office and then stopped at my laptop which was now on the floor “Luckily the documents are all safe and backed up” He said while he walked towards me “I’ll call someone to get you a new laptop” He added unaffectedly.

“Did you....” I started to say but he stopped me mid sentence.

“No, I didn’t hear your conversation with Bella but I know better than anyone else her conversation doesn’t always end well” He replied with a straight face while he handed me my jacked which I had pulled earlier “We need to leave now if you want us to arrive early” He added pointing to my loosed tie.

I sighed while I began to picture how I got to this point with Bella “Sir” Josh called.

“Go get the car ready, I’ll be down in a second” I told him, after he had left I closed my eyes hoping the day would just end.
