The maid gave a respectful nod after Aria finished speaking and walked away, her footsteps fading down the hallway.

Aria let out a quiet breath and turned toward the kitchen. Her throat was dry, and she needed water, if only to cool the sudden heat that had crept into her chest since the breakfast table incident. Damian’s small gesture still lingered in her mind, even though she tried to push it aside.

She entered the kitchen and went straight to the counter, reaching for a glass and filling it with water from the jug. As she raised the glass to her lips, she sensed it.

That presence.

The faint shift of air. A step.

She slowly turned, and startled.

Marco stood just behind her, closer than necessary, hands in his pockets, eyes unreadable.

She stepped back instinctively, the glass in her hand trembling slightly. Her mind flashed to that night—Damian’s cold fury when he’d caught Marco near her. She couldn’t let something like that happen again.

“Is there a problem, Marco?

The whip dropped from Damian’s hand, landing on the floor with a quiet thud. The room was deathly silent, all eyes on the man now breathing raggedly at his feet. “You came for who?” Damian’s voice was barely above a whisper, but it was laced with menace. The man coughed again, blood spattering on the polished floor. “Aria…” he repeated, wincing from the pain. “They want her… alive.” Damian’s jaw clenched. He turned to his men. “Take him to the basement. Don’t let him die. I want him conscious.” Two guards immediately grabbed the man and hauled him away. Damian remained standing in the center of the room, staring at the bloodstains like they held the answer to a puzzle he hadn’t realized he was trying to solve. Who would dare come after Aria? And why? He turned sharply and stormed out of the study. His thoughts were racing, and for once, they weren’t about territory or alliances. They were about her. --- Aria sat curled up on the edge of her bed, her arms wrapped around her kn

The room fell into dead silence. Marco stiffened as soon as he saw his father standing at the door. His cocky expression vanished instantly, replaced by dread. “D-Dad… umm—” Damian didn’t blink. His voice was like ice. “I’ll have a chat with you later, Marco,” he said calmly, too calmly. “But now… get out.” Marco opened his mouth, trying to find the words to defend himself. “It’s not what you think. I—” “I said get out,” Damian snapped, his tone dark and final. Marco clenched his jaw and looked between Damian and Aria. But one more glance at his father’s cold expression made him turn and leave the room without another word. The door clicked shut behind him.Damian locked it. Aria’s heart began to pound. The tension in the air was suffocating. She watched as he stood still for a long moment, his back to her. Then, he turned. His eyes burned, not with fury, but something worse—betrayal. “So…” he said quietly, rage simmering beneath every syllable. “You both have been h

Lyla stormed down the hallway, her heels clicking furiously against the floor. She didn’t care who heard her. She was fuming. The sight of Damian handing Aria water, in front of everyone, was unbearable. That girl was chipping away at everything Lyla had worked for. She shoved open her bedroom door and marched inside, slamming it shut behind her. Moments later, Marco entered after her, shutting the door more gently. “What was that back there?” he asked sharply. Lyla turned on him. “What do you mean?” “You know damn well what I mean,” Marco snapped. “Speaking like that in front of Damian? Are you out of your mind?” “I just stated a fact,” Lyla said bitterly. “Since when does Damian care about anyone coughing?” “It wasn’t about the cough and you know it,” Marco said, stepping closer. “It was about Aria. You couldn’t handle the fact that he showed her the slightest concern. You let your jealousy show—and in front of him, no less.” Lyla’s eyes burned. “I’m not jealous!”

“I said, what are you doing?” Damian repeated, his voice low but firm. Aria clutched the ointment in her hand. “I want to treat your back,” she said gently. “That’s not required. I’m fine,” Damian replied, turning away. “No, you’re not,” she whispered. “I know you’re hurting.” Damian looked at her for a long moment, his expression unreadable. She took a small step closer and added, “Please…” He seemed to hesitate, his jaw tightening, but after a moment he silently walked over and sat on the edge of the bed. Aria exhaled softly and moved behind him. As she applied the ointment to the bruises on his back, her fingers moved carefully, gently, like she was trying to soothe more than just the physical pain. Her heart fluttered as he allowed her to care for him. When she finished, she stepped back and asked quietly, “Does that feel better?” He gave her a small nod. She nodded in return, trying to mask the emotion in her eyes. Aria set the first aid kit aside and walked to the close

The heavy silence in the living room was shattered by Damian’s cold voice. “A party was held here last night,” he began, his tone flat but his presence sharp like a blade. “And some incidents took place.” Aria’s head immediately lowered, her heart sinking with the weight of shame and pain. She knew exactly what he was referring to. The memory still haunted her, even though she could hardly remember the details. Damian’s eyes swept across the room, finally settling on the group of maids standing in a line. “Now, this question is for the maids,” he said, voice growing colder. “Who amongst you spiked Aria’s drink?” A thick silence fell over the room. Lyla’s breath hitched, and she exchanged a quick, panicked look with Marco. Her hand gripped her dress tightly. Aria blinked, stunned. He believed her? A flicker of relief rushed through her chest, but it was quickly overshadowed by fear of what might follow. No one spoke. Not a single maid moved. Damian’s jaw clenched. “You
