Emma's POV

I wasn't going to let their disrespect slide anymore.

She most likely already heard my voicemail, and still didn't reply to me.

“Lily, don't you think you're being a little too bitchy.” I said, dragging her back by the shoulders.

“Take your hands off her.” Gray turned back and screamed at me.

We were causing a scene as students had begun to gather to watch us in the hallway.

“Shut the fuck up.” Lily's tiny voice boomed through the air. But she wasn't referring to me, she was talking to Chase.

I stood aside and let them battle their shit out.

“You're a fucking liar. A fucking cheat. You said she meant nothing to you.” Lily screamed at him.

“Lily. Come on. This isn't even the place for this. We're causing a scene. Let's talk somewhere else.” I could see the guilt in Chase's eyes.

Lily kept crying and sobbing and speaking incoherently.

I wanted to hold her, but I didn't know how she'd react, so I stayed put.

Her hair was already disheveled.

She launched a

Chase's POV Emma was avoiding me, and I got it. I finally told my infatuated self that it was probably time to step back a bit. So I played her game well. I didn't want to have to sit among the many people who I knew never liked me. Almost all the friendships I ever had were false or forced, and I was used to that. I barely had anyone genuine till... I stayed in classes throughout lunch break, waiting for the day to end so I could go back to my meaningless and purposeless life. It was about ten minutes till the next class when I started hearing noise and commotion in the walkway. I wanted to sit it out as there was always something like that in a school where everyone wanted power and fame. I let it go on for another five minutes, when I heard Gray scream Emma's name. I stood up and went to where everyone was gathered, which was obviously where they had their fight. The show was over, but their audience was still thrilled and happy. Saying all sorts of things about Gray, and

Lily's POV I probably seem like the bad guy in the story. But as always, I don't care, I never cared. I hadn't gotten past blaming my parents' very messy divorce for my misdemeanors. We had court hearings almost every other week. Like it wasn't bad enough, my dad always brought along our step siblings. I hated the whole idea of it. I know I came off as a child when I always asked them why they didn't just split and handle their shit on their own, but it was all really just annoying. Strangers who, for all who knows, might have a messy family issue themselves sitting to judge my family. I made enemies of all the attorneys and judges, for and against. I just decided I had had enough of it all, and decided to visit a private bar. I thought it was the drink when I saw someone who looked like Chase come in, so I didn't bother looking too much, for fear I'd embarrass the person. “Has to be him.” I said to myself. He did what my baby brother called ‘violent drinking’. Shot after

Emma's POV I literally thought my whole life had turned upside down, but it was the beginning of the mending of many of my relationships. First, with Lily. I sat far away from her in class, among the ‘zeros’, as Lily called them. People who had little to no appeal. I had begun to feel that way either way. Someone passed me a note. I saw Lily's poorly drawn heart shape on it and laughed. “I'm sorry, Emma.” The note read. “I didn't mean for that to happen. You're a really pretty girl, you can't blame me so much.” She drew a very funny face next to it. I was still baffled, but I liked the fact that she was making a joke out of it. It made the air feel less tense. “It really caught me unawares.” I replied to her and sent it back. People were already looking at us and wondering how we were talking and laughing and exchanging notes barely an hour after the showdown in the lobby. “I know. I'm so sorry. It's messing with me again.” She wrote with a tear faced badly drawn man ne

Chase's POV Emma loved the flowers I got her so much that I decided to surprise her with the seeds. I ordered them that night before I slept. When things started to become awry between both of us, I forgot to cancel it. Apparently, they were delivered with all the instructions I left and it led her to the wrong conclusion. I can't say I'm sorry that she saw me fucking Patty. I only felt bad by making her feel bad. But it was also high time I proved to myself that Emma did not hold the key to my orgasm. I have been sexually active since I was thirteen. Emma was too soon, too recent, too brief, to be so etched in my mind. Our fling lasted barely a month. Too short to have me comparing every sex I've had since then to her. As soon as she left, my penis went limp. I shamelessly even tried imagining I was fucking her instead of Patty, but it's still didn't work. Patty was a maid my dad had for about ten years. She was married when she moved in, but she looked young and didn't min

Emma's POV Just two days after our fallout, Chase had an accident. I was the only one home, and it made sense to be there for him. All the nights I spent near his bedside praying that nothing happens to him. My grades started to slack, I slept in class, my social battery was down, I was even beginning to look malnourished. I tried to fight the fact, which is that I cared about Chase, but it was impossible. I hated seeing him like that. I'd very much rather he be up and well, than sick, bedridden and housebound. I passed out on him so many times, the doctor advised a maid to check up on me whenever I went in to see him. Life was beginning to look colorful again, when two weeks after crashing himself and his car, he blinked. Blood tests showed he was under the influence of drugs, but Mark paid heavily to kill the investigations at that stage. It was all anyone needed to know, really. Three weeks after, doctors certified him okay enough to go about daily activities “Rise and

  • Falling For My Stepbrother 1    Chapter 44

Jessica's POVWhen Chase walked into that bar that night, I felt the type of joy I hadn't felt in over two months. I liked Chase, but I loved him broken. Broken Chase always ran back to me. Coincidentally, Mr Rudd and I were out that night too. He had been giving me glances too publicly, so I decided that it was hi-time we met somewhere outside the walls of school. He was just a sexy eye candy that caught my attention, gradually, we became more than just admirers. He needed something, and obviously I did too. Two things in fact. Chase had left me solely for Emma, no I needed some dick, and I also needed someone who could help me fuck Eme up. Rudd was my golden opportunity, so I grabbed him fast and hard. He was only too happy and excited. We used to make out in corners in the school, but between the threat of getting caught, and having to stop halfway. I hadn't been so unsatisfied. One day, it was so bad I had to finish up in the bathroom. “Hey baby.” I said, walking up to

Jessica's POV Emma's effect was really a thing. Gray once joked about how she had an aura that kinda punished people who didn't like her. I didn't think it was real till that night, even though I hate to admit it. I had lost both Chase and Rudd to her, indirectly. I didn't like post nut clarity, and I'm sure there was more wrong with Chase than just that. The next day at school was their showdown, which I really couldn't give a fuck about because I was nursing wounds of my own. The day seemed to drag. My wounds hurt worse than they did the night before. Worse still, I got an infection from the previous night. The thought of Chase pouring alcohol into my vagina now began to irritate me, though it was a little too late. Between all that, I knew I had to do something. I wasn't one to go down without a fight. I hated Rudd, but he still hadn't fulfilled his end of the bargain, which was failing Emma. Results were to be out in about a month's time, so I expected her to face her hel

Jessica's POV “They say you've been seeing Mr Rudd.” Grayson texted finally. It was a big deal, but definitely not as bad as I thought it could get. “Who the fuck said so?” I asked him “I don't know. News has just been floating around.” He replied. I had better things to get back to. “Alright Gray.” I texted. “It's fine. Thank you.” I wanted to end the conversation and get back to my toys. “I'm lonely though.” He texted. For a minute, I didn't know what to say. I didn't give a very big fuck that he was lonely. He and Chase left me to roll with their ugly raggedy bitches. “So what do you want from me?” I asked. “Let's hang out.” He replied I didn't really want to think too much about it. I knew I was probably gonna be rebound sex, but heaven knows I couldn't give a shit. “Where?” I asked, packing my toys back. “My place. I'll see you at five.” That was barely an hour away. Excited, I grabbed my keys and raced down the stairs. I drove to Gray’s in a mad r

Emma's POV “Welcome. I've got wine.” I said, and sprang up to my feet as soon as Kevin got close enough to me. I didn't enjoy the rush of blood to my nether regions at the sight of him and smell of his cologne, but really, my body had a lot to do in coming to terms with my mind and heart. “Not too happy to see me.” He said and smiled sadly, looking away. “Would you rather be alone? I'd just drop this and be on my way.” He held my keys up, before tossing them gently to my reading table. “You're breaking me, Kevin.” I managed to say. “I don't even know where we are, I don't even know where to start, you can't blame me for acting like this. Even though I genuinely think wine would help.” I said, looking down. I didn't have the mind to look Kevin in his face. I felt so shitty. This must've been how Chase felt every single time he fucked up. It hurt so bad being on that other half of a relationship drama. As horrible as it is to admit, I'd rather be the one cheated on. I just cou

Emma's POV “I think you know where your keys are.” Chase looked me in the eyes. His blue eyes were no more sexy, they were icy. “We can take it from here, Dave.” I turned to the uber guy, dismissing him. “To think that you're the one who was so concerned with how I'd handle Kayla!” Chase screamed. “I think you should know that I didn't think this was gonna happen!” I yelled back at him. I wasn't known to be the noisy neighbour, and I didn't want Chase to make me be seen as one, so I entered my apartment, which was stuffed full of flowers and hampers and gifts, a note on my reading desk which I snatched up immediately, and a wine on my bed. Gosh! It was so sexy. I didn't know how to feel. Kevin really went out of his way. What I didn't understand was why he'd do that, knowing when he left, he left me to Chase, and really, the outcome was inevitable. “I see y'all have a fun night planned, I wouldn't want to interrupt any plans you've made.” Chase said, with his hand

Emma's POV “Is it just me, or is this trip actually unnecessary?” I asked him, as we boarded a flight back to MA. “Come on!” Chase said as he took my hand. “You know it is. We're not planning to accumulate a lot of school work, are we?” He smiled. We didn't have to wait with the business and economy passengers, cause, well, we're first class. “Every single trip to reality sucks so much.” I whined. Chase held my hands tightly under his, maybe ensuring I wasn't gonna run away, and it's not like I wanted to either. “We have to keep taking it.” He said and sighed. “You really do not know much about being supportive.” I muttered and just let myself be led like a sheep to the slaughter. “Come on, Em.” He said, still not taking his eyes off the road, “You know everyone's just doing what they have to do.” Chase said. “Do I have a choice?” I whispered to myself. I wasn't mad at Chase, I was just angry that our little baecation was over and that we were gonna be separate

  • Falling For My Stepbrother 1    Chapter 179

Emma's POV “Hey mom!” I was overfilled with excitement and anticipation. From what Chase briefed me, we had a whole lot of fun stuff to do. It was quite risky that we were taking such a break from school, but it's nothing Chase's dads connections couldn't fix. He said that we were gonna have fun, and he was gonna make sure of it. “How are you, sugar?” She asked. It'd been a minute since I saw my mom that happy. “Never been better.” I replied a little too enthusiastically, I was so happy to be away. Somewhere no one knew me. “You look it.” She smiled. “Why did you not call me? Forgot about your woman in all your boy dramas?” Unfortunately for me, the phone was on speaker, and Chase wasn't far. Which definitely meant he was paying more than the usual attention. “Come on, mom!” I chided. “It didn't exactly end the way we thought.” I was trying to be as cryptic as possible, if I had my way, I'd have avoided the whole topic all together. “Tell me.” She said, looking s

  • Falling For My Stepbrother 1    Chapter 178

Emma's POV “Do you wanna come in with me?” Chase asked. The answer was gonna be hell yeah, but because of what happened in the past-less than twenty four hours ago, the question was necessary. “Yes.” I answered affirmatively. “Are you sure you're gonna be comfortable here?” He asked again, looking at me doubtfully. “I'll try.” I replied. “That's not such a good thing.” He remarked, heavy on his amateur British accent, taking a step back. “I can't help it. It's too many memories.” I apologized. “Don't do that.” He said, and appeared to think pensively. “Let's go somewhere. What do you say?” He looked at me. “What?!” I asked. Can't lie, I was shaken a bit. “Just like that?” I blinked so hard and fast. “Yeah. Somewhere different. Somewhere we could be ourselves. Somewhere we can start on a fresh slate and get back on our feet.”He couldn't have sold the idea to me any better. “Uhm, I,uhm. Is that possible?” I asked. The sun was so bright, I had to squint, and

  • Falling For My Stepbrother 1    Chapter 177

Emma's POVDon't even ask why I walked out of Chase's house, cause I couldn't give myself a sensible reason. I just wanted to be away from there. It felt like something was haunting me. I had a troubled sleep, matter of fact, I had no sleep at all that night. I tossed and turned and cursed myself out for being so trashy. I kept wondering if I was cursed. Could I just not mess my own happiness up? I wanted to do something desperately. It was the day after and I was still the only one in Mark's house. It gets lonely real fast when no one is home. “You've gotta do something, Emma.” I said to myself as I sat alone in Mark's big ass living room. Confused and ashamed, but ready to make things right, I hopped into the easiest car to back out of the garage, and once again, was on my way to Chase's house. As I drove, I thought of a million things I could say. Really, just anything to explain my behavior the previous day, but nothing came to my mind. I could not even convince myself t

  • Falling For My Stepbrother 1    Chapter 176

Chase's POV “Fuck!” I didn't understand why Emma was in such a rush to get away from me. We literally were just unloading our hearts content to each other. Was she bored? Tired of me? Did she see something that triggered her? She wasn't even with her phone. I'd have concluded that she got some type of news. Two days after my dads anniversary dinner, and I was still in Starry, against my own will. Having sworn to leave town, immediately after the dinner, with all traces of me gone if Emma didn't come into my life, I surprised myself. For every single thing I thought could never be, life kept sending it my way. Emma and I had sorted our issues, but she wasn't speaking to me. I woke up as early as 6:00am, checking my phone for texts from her constantly, and there were none. I wondered what I did to deserve the cold treatment again. It's one thing to be in someone's bad books, it's another thing not to know why. I thought long and hard of what to do. But no sensible ideas wer

Emma's POVThe person I was at Chase’s house wasn't the regular me. I was feeling a million things and I wanted anything, anything at all, that would make me feel even just a bit better. Being that close to him, saying everything I said was a new feeling. My heart was racing and my throat constantly ran dry. “Can I admit something I think of sometimes?” I asked Chase. “Yes.” He said, really enthusiastically. I thought to myself if he'd be that hyped up if he knew what was on my mind, but since I'd concluded that I'd stop keeping stuff I thought to just myself, I said it. “You might not be too enthusiastic if you knew the shit that's about to fly out of my mouth.” “Come on, Em.” He said. “I don't fancy when you refer to yourself that way.” “Okay, okay.” I said, putting my hands up in surrender. “What if Gray and Lily weren't there?” I asked him. Chase looked at me, for about ten seconds, his bright blue eyes were beginning to get their spark. Instead of being terrified

Chase’s POV “I was about to ask if I ever made you doubt that, but I remembered I have, over a thousand times.” I said, shooting myself in the foot. “People change, Chase. I believe you can too.” She said like she was holy or something. “Come on girl, don't treat me that way.” I played along. “Can we sit?” she asked, pointing at the chairs I'd already wrapped. “Sure we can,” I said, “tear them off.” “What were you gonna do, really?” She asked her. “I don't know, actually, and I'm not even lying. The plan was to be away from everywhere you were.” I replied, truthfully. “Do you still feel that way?” She asked me. “Come on!” I said. “You know that's not possible.” “Just checking in to make sure, really.” She remarked and looked away.. “Can I go now?” I asked her if I could ask my own questions. “How do you think life would have been if both of us ended up in MIT?” I asked her. “I know it'd be great, for sure. I also know it'd be straining, maybe a
