Knox's POV

The puck slips past my stick for the third time this practice.

“Knox fucking Black! Focus!” Ronan's voice cuts across the ice.

I nod, skating to retrieve it. But my legs feel heavier than they should. Like I'm moving through water instead of gliding across ice.

‘Tired,’ Nyx murmurs weakly in my mind.

His voice has gotten quieter over the past few days. Less demanding. More... faded.

‘I know.’ I grip my stick tighter, trying to push through.

Practice drags on. Each drill feels like a marathon. My breathing comes harder, sharper. Sweat drips down my back despite the cold.

This isn't normal. I know it's not.

But I can't stop. I can't show weakness. The championship is in a few weeks and I need to—

Pain pierces through my chest, sharp and sudden. I stumble, catching myself on my stick before I fall.

Not my pain. Hers.

Cassie.

Through the bond, I feel it. The ache in her chest. The tightness. The constant pull that won't let her rest.

She's suffering. And I can feel every seco

Cassie's POV It's been three days since the trials. Three days since I felt Knox's pain tear through me like I was the one being beaten in that arena. Three days of waiting for news that never comes. The aches have faded to a dull, constant throb in my chest. Not the sharp, stabbing agony of broken ribs or fractured bones. Just this persistent reminder that something is wrong. I'm sitting in class again, staring at diagrams that blur together into meaningless shapes. The professor keeps talking about words that don't register. All I can think about is Knox lying in some pack hospital, his body broken, while I sit here pretending to be a normal college student.“Cassie.”Adrian's voice is quiet beside me. His hand touches my arm gently.I blink, realizing I've been staring at the same page for the last twenty minutes without turning it.“Sorry,” I whisper. “I'm just—”“I know.” His expression is understanding. Worried. “Do you need to leave? We can go get some air.”I shake my head.

Alpha Warren's POVThe door closes behind Maya with a soft click. Silence fills my office once more, broken only by the faint crackling of the fireplace in the corner. I return to my desk, settling into the leather chair that has molded to my form over decades of rule.My daughter's tears don't move me. They can't. Sentiment is a luxury I abandoned long ago when I took the Alpha position.Leaders don't have the privilege of emotion. We make the hard choices. The necessary ones. Even when they tear our families apart.I pour myself a glass of whiskey, the amber liquid catching the firelight. The burn down my throat is familiar and grounding.Knox's broken body being carried from the arena flashes in my mind. For a brief moment— so brief I almost don't acknowledge it— something that might be regret stirs in my chest. My heir. My son. Beaten unconscious because his wolf is dead and he's too stubborn to yield. Too much like me, perhaps. Though I would never admit that to anyone.I take an

Maya's POV“Cassie Monroe.”The name falls from my father's lips as soon as I sit on the chair. My heart stops, literally stops beating for one terrible second before slamming back to life with such force I can feel it in my throat.No.No, no, no.He’d already found out. Somehow, he already knows about Cassie.Every muscle in my body screams at me to run. To grab Cassie and Knox and flee as far from this pack as possible. But I force myself to remain still, to keep my expression neutral even though panic is clawing at my insides.“What?” I try to make my voice sound confused, innocent. “What about Cassie?”My father's eyes narrow dangerously. The temperature in the room seems to drop ten degrees.“Don't.” The single word is sharp as a blade. “Don't play dumb with me, Maya. I know who she is.”My throat tightens in an instant. I can barely breathe around the fear choking me.“I… I don't understand what you're talking about.” The lie feels flimsy even as I say it. “Cassie is just my fr

Maya's POV Cold dread settles in my stomach in an instant. Whatever my father wants to discuss, it won't be good. He doesn't summon people to his office for pleasant conversations. He summons them to deliver judgments. To issue commands. To remind them of their place in the pack hierarchy. And right now, after what just happened in the arena, after I screamed and tried to rush to Knox's side in front of everyone, I'm not sure what kind of judgment is waiting for me.I force myself to move down the steps, through the crowd, toward the exit that leads to the pack house.Wolves move aside as I pass, their expressions a mixture of sympathy and curiosity. They know I've been summoned. They're probably wondering what punishment awaits. So am I.The walk to the pack house feels too short and too long at the same time. Each step brings me closer to facing my father. To whatever cold fury he's hiding behind that emotionless mask.I reach his office door. My hand hovers over the handle, trembl

  • Falling For The Alpha Hockey Player.    Chapter One Hundred and Thirty Five

Maya's POVI can't breathe. The arena is packed with wolves from every corner of our Pack, their voices rising and falling like waves. But I can't hear them. I can't focus on anything except my brother standing in the center of the stone floor.Knox looks so small down there. So breakable.I've never thought of him that way before. Knox has always been larger than life— the future Alpha, the protector, the one who kept me safe when our father's coldness became too much to bear. But now, watching him face Garrett without his wolf, he looks human. Vulnerable. Wrong. The trial begins and my hands grip the edge of my seat so hard my knuckles turn white.Garrett moves fast, too fast. Knox dodges, barely. The crowd murmurs around me, uncomfortable sounds that match the churning in my stomach. This isn't right. This isn't how trials are supposed to go.Knox should be winning. He should be dominating, should be proving to everyone that he's worthy of leading this pack.Instead, he's strugglin

  • Falling For The Alpha Hockey Player.    Chapter One Hundred and Thirty Four

Cassie's POV My stomach plummets with dread in an instant. The word ‘barely’ hits me like a physical blow. Knox is alive, but barely.“What happened?” Adrian's hand finds mine, squeezing. “How bad is it?”“Bad enough.” The elder's voice is heavy with something that sounds like disgust. “He fought well for someone without a wolf. Lasted longer than many expected. But in the end,” he sighs. “Garrett beat him down. Multiple broken ribs, fractured jaw, internal bleeding. The boy passed out in the arena and hasn't woken up yet.”Hasn't woken up yet.The words echo in my head. Knox is unconscious. Badly injured. Maybe dying even now.“Alpha Warren?” Adrian asks quietly. “What did he do?”“Stood there and watched his son get beaten into the ground.” The elder's tone turns bitter. “He refused to call the trial even when it was clear Knox couldn't continue. Made Garrett keep hitting him until the boy finally passed out.”Horror crashes through me. Knox's own father stood there and let this ha
