I joined Park Entertainment because I've always wanted to work in the music world.
But if you ask my best friend, Bella, she'll tell you I joined the company because of the CEO.
That's total bull.
I mean...yeah, sure, Park Hyun Bin is the youngest, hottest CEO in the industry right now. But joining a company because of that doesn't sound like a wise career move to me.
Park Entertainment simply happened to offer me a job as a designer after I applied to five other comapnies unsuccessfully. And they are paying well.
The fact that I'm lusting after the CEO is a meaningless detail. Besides, it's not as if I think I have a chance with him. Please.
Park Hyun Bin, with all his money, looks, and influence, is the type of man who only dates expensive women. Gorgeous supermodels, actresses, and songstresses. Not a 25-year average person with only student loans and unpaid bills to her name.
The company building is two blocks from where I get off the bus. It's twenty past seven. I was supposed to be at the reception by eight but I'm not taking any chances. I've heard that Mr. Park is a super active CEO who keeps everyone on their toes. I definitely don't want to get on his bad books on the first day.
Despite what Bella said last night...
"Get on his bad books, it might be your ticket to his bed."
Ever since I bagged my new job, the only thing the girl talks about is how I can manage to get Mr. Park's attention. Sadly for her, I'm not a natural flirt.
I walk into the building and head to the reception desk, where I introduce myself and inform the receptionist that it's my first day.
The receptionist is about my height and her name tag reads Luna.
"Welcome to Park Entertainment, Ms. Tsindoli. It's a pleasure."
I can't help but beam when she blesses me with a wide smile.
"Would you mind waiting over there for a while?" she asks, pointing towards a seating area adjacent to her desk. "Naomi from HR is supposed to show you to your office but she's not here yet."
"Sure," I reply, well aware that I'm about thirty minutes early.
My sitting position allows me to see who goes in and out of the building. If I'm lucky, I might just catch a glimpse of Mr. Park on my first day.
But, to be honest, Mr. Park is not the only person of interest in this company for me. Park Entertainment is a new comapny in the industry, barely two years old. In the time they've been in operation, they've debuted two groups. First came Phix, their boy group. Six members, with four vocalists and two rappers. Six months later came Diamonds, a 5-member girl group. I'm a fan of both groups and working with them is unbelievable.
All I need to do is keep my cool when they appear and not act like a crazy fan.
A tall woman walks towards the reception area twenty minutes later. She comes straight to me, a smile on her face.
"Emma Tsindoli, right?"
I shoot to my feet and shake her hand. "That's me."
"I'm Naomi. I'll be your guide today."
"Thank you, it's nice to meet you."
Naomi exchanges greetings with Luna, then leads me towards the check-in area. We get through and head for the elevators.
"I saw your portfolio," she says once the elevator opens and we step in. "You're amazing. I'm glad we managed to snag you before some competitor could."
"Really?" I blurt due to my disbelief. I quickly school my expression. "I mean... I'm happy you liked it. Some of them did turn me down."
Naomi looks at me, brow raised. "Are you serious?"
I nod.
She waves a hand in dismissal. "That's the difference between us and them. Mr. Park has an eye for talent. He's never made a bad choice."
"Mr. Park?" I mumble, hoping for further explanation.
She nods.
"Mr. Park likes taking part in all the important decisions in the company. As a designer, you'll be working directly with the artists. It was a given he would take part in the selection process. Actually, he was disatisfied with all of the applications until he came across your work."
As Naomi explains, a feeling of pride swells in my chest... Or maybe that's just the butterflies in my stomach.
Mr. Park personally evaluated and loved my portfolio. Any worries I had about my capabilities as a designer fade into nothing.
The elevators open on the fourth floor and we step out. We're in a large office area with spacious cubicles.
"This is where you'll spend time cooking up brilliant design ideas in that pretty skull of yours," Naomi jokes, then starts down the aisle. "Let me show you to your cubicle."
***
First day at work goes well. Naomi showed me my work area and explained the entire designing process at the company. I also got to meet my teammates.
It's a small team of five people, with me being the fifth one. They looked happy enough to have me there, and it made me relax.
I set up my workstation, and in the afternoon, Naomi showed me around the rest of the building. I saw the practice rooms, studios, and a glimpse of the CEO's office on the highest floor.
I don't get to see any of the artists, but I figure it won't be long before I do.
In the evening, I'm gathering my stuff to leave when Naomi shows up at my cubicle. "Tomorrow, you have a meeting with Mr. Park at 8.00 am. It's the only free time he has tomorrow, so don't be late."
I stare at her in disbelief.
"I have a meeting with Mr. Park?"
She nods. "Yes, the CEO. Don't fret. I already told you he loved your work, right?"
Okay, yes, but... Why does he want to see me?
"Don't be nervous. It's something he does with every new essential member of the staff. Wants to make sure you understand the vision of the company so you can actively contribute to its realization."
I gulp.
First, he took part in my selection, and now, he's going to give me a sort of private orientation.
In all my years as a working adult, never has that involved a CEO.
I'm starting to get the idea that he's a CEO who expects nothing short of perfection from his employees. One who watches them like a hawk. And roots out the ones he deems inefficient.
I don't know whether to be excited or terrified about tomorrow.
I think telling Bella that I have a meeting with Mr. Park tomorrow morning was a bad idea. For the last ten minutes, she's been narrating various scenarios from her favorite erotic fiction pieces involving CEOs. Apparently, there are a thousand and one tricks I can pull tomorrow to seduce Mr. Park. I put the phone on loud speaker, throw it on my bed, and begin looking through my wardrobe."Don't wear that skirt you wore today," Bella's voice comes across. "It was too long.""I'm wearing jeans tomorrow.""What?""My mom jeans. They're non-fitting just like I love it, and I think they'll look great for work.""Your mom what?" she screeches and I cover my ears for a few seconds. When she doesn't scream again, I drop my hands."I look good in mom jeans. High waist. White sneakers. And a simple tee. That's the kind of vibe I found at work today.""
Park Hyun Bin has a lot of attractive traits about him. Everything on his face is perfectly arranged, symmetrical. His dark hair is shorter on the sides and longer at the top, currently slicked back. He's tall and lean. I've seen his shirtless photos before, and he has a perfect six pack beneath his crisp white shirt. His eyes are penetrating. And, right now, they're studying me from across the large mahogany table."Ms. Tsindoli," he begins, leaning back in his chair and clasping his hands together. "What's your dream?"It catches me off guard.I thought we were going to talk about my new job, not my dreams. What's my dream?Oh, I do know what that is. But isn't it so simple? I don't want to make a bad first impression. My mother has always accused me of being unambitious. What if Mr. Park doesn't think I'm ambitious enough?I've always been
This is officially a shitty day. How can it not be, when my mother's overbearing presence is so big in my house? Why one earth did she not tell me she was coming? Is it not common courtesy to tell someone when you're visiting them, regardless of your relationship? Why is she here, anyway? When I let us into the apartment, she spends a good five minutes looking around, corners of her mouth downturned. She doesn't need to say anything for me to know she doesn't approve of my living arrangement. But that's none of her business. "You didn't tell me you were coming," I say, dropping my bag on a couch in my living room. It's a small room, filled with everything I own. The kitchen is sectioned from it with a waist-length wall. Despite how small and inefficient my apartment appears, it's more than enough for me. First, the rent is the lowest I cou
"If you don't get laid tonight, I've failed my job as your only friend."I adjust my red leather mini skirt and smack my freshly painted lips together. "You're not my only friend."It's nine o'clock, Saturday night, and I'm in Bella's hotel room. Girl appeared at my door this morning, then quickly stole me away from my mother. When mum asked when I'd be back, Bella said not to worry, I wouldn't miss work on Monday.I had no objections.Right now, we're getting ready for a night out. That concert Bella is attending is happening over the weekend, but she only got a ticket for the last show tomorrow. Tonight, we're going to have fun.She scoffs. "Right, sorry. I forgot you're the social butterfly."I smile and turn sideways, observing myself in the mirror. Bella picked out my outfit and did my makeup. She knew if she let me do it myself, I wouldn't be able to create the 'wow
I came on a night out to have fun and hopefully land a hot guy to bed tonight. Not sit here, reminiscing with my old friend with benefits."Can we talk somewhere more quiet?" Roberto asks a few minutes later. "There's something I want to tell you.""Not now," Bella says, dropping from her stool and grabbing my arm. "We're going to dance right now.""Can I joi-""No," Bella snaps, her patience growing thin. "Why don't you wait for your little friend, Roberto? In fact, why don't you go check and see how she's doing? You might have to take her home early."She doesn't wait for his response as she leads me to the dance floor. We penetrate the throng of dancing bodies until we're out of sight of the bar area.I heave a sigh of relief. "Thanks.""I got you, girl," Bella says. She snickers. "Looks can truly be deceptive. Look at him, with that height and face. Looks like s
"Park Hyun Bin in a Bar Fight. Who's Park Hyun Bin's New Girl? Park Hyun Bin Gets Into a Fight Over a Woman. See Photos from Park Hyun Bin's Eventful Outing Last Night."That's Bella, scrolling on her tablet, reading out loud what the online tabloids have to say about Park Hyun Bin and what happened at the back of The Daze last night. It's around ten the next morning.Bella pauses."Girl, don't go on Twitter today, okay? A lot of fans don't have a lot of nice things to say about you.""It's fine," I say. "It's not like they can see my face, so I don't have to worry about getting mobbed on the street."Fortunately, none of the pictures that the paparazzi got show my face. Hyun Bin was the one facing the camera and when he hid my face, the cameraman had no chance to get a shot of mine.I know I should listen to Bella and stay away from social media, but my itchy fingers don't le
In the morning, I get to work ten minutes to eight. I stand nervously at the elevator, awaiting its arrival. Before, I was eager to run into certain people.Today, I would love to not do that. It's a shame I can't avoid running into Fiona. I stand still, my hands clutching my leather jacket sleeves as I wait. Today I went for a pair of black palazzo pants, a white top, and a black leather jacket. I look okay."Hello there, Ms. Celebrity."I nearly jump out of my skin at Fiona's sudden voice. I turn and there she is, striding up to stand next to me.My lips pull up in a feeble attempt of a smile. "Morning, Fiona.""How does it feel?" she asks."What?""Being mistaken for Mr. Park's lover." She sighs, tips her head backwards. "Must feel nice."I stare at the elevator doors. "It doesn't."I can feel her stare on my face. "What, a
I've never been blackmailed before. Maybe because I've never come across a real life witch before. I don't doubt for a second that Fiona would release my information to the public. I just wish she would stop being delusional about the whole me going after Mr. Park thing. She is acting like a jealous girlfriend or something. She's obviously the one who has her eyes on him. After lunch, I count the minutes until it's 4 o'clock. I wish it is so I can leave work, but that would mean spending more time around my mother when I get back home. Instead, I'm just eager to see Fiona get out of my sight. After everyone leaves, I hang back at the office, researching more about the costumes I have to have ready in seven weeks. Luckily for me, the company building is open to staff throughout. I leave after six. Surprisingly, my mothe
