I held in my fist this crumpled piece of paper—the pregnancy result. Stunned by it, my heart was racing with the warmth of my belly with my evident fingers. Ethan is going to be a father — I am pregnant. The tide of reality washed through me so hard that sorrows burst out of my heart like waves.

“I have to inform him …” I mumbled beneath my breath with doubt overtaking. Tell him? Isn't he even aware of that night?!

It was around the time when everything was quiet, midnight, and their home felt hard to take. She put her arms around herself to keep warm as the night became darker.

She was pulled from what she was thinking when the doorbell rang. She felt a rush of fear crossing through her body. At this time of night, who could it be? She felt her heart speed up as she thought things over before standing from her bed. When she reached the door, she couldn’t help but picture various outcomes, yet deep inside she knew who was there.

Breathe deep, she opened the door, and her heartbeat sped up at what came into view. Ethan, her cold and hard husband, was there with an expression we couldn’t interpret and a body that seemed unsteady.

He did not say anything but pushed right by her and stumbled into the house. The heavy scent of alcohol suddenly filled the air and filled her senses. She suddenly realized he was drunk, and both worry and unease took over. She could see that he was in no control of himself, moving strangely and staring unthinkingly.

Lily unconsciously moved away from the door, feeling afraid inside. She held back as he tried to steady himself. All of a sudden, he mis-stepped and hit the floor with a big thud.

Her pulse quickened as she looked at her husband lying there, and her fear was pushed aside by a tiny spark of care. She thought to herself, he needs my help, and started to prepare.

Taking a steadying breath, she went to his side and trembled as she reached for him. Trying to stay calm, she said to Ethan, “Ethan.” “Can you stand up?”

He sighed and could only look at her with difficulty. Her arms held onto his broad shoulders, though her strength didn’t look like much next to his. She urged, “Let me help you,” pulling on the item as hard as she could.

She finally managed to get him to his feet after a few tries, and he was wobbling so she had to press up against him. His heat was not only entirely too warm to be comfortable; it made her feel a thousand million different things.

She took a deep breath and, with small, fear-steeped steps, took him to their shared bedroom. What if he snaps? The notion was making her crazy, but she pushed it aside, focusing instead on getting him to safety.

She guided him to the near edge of the bed, within it. He slumped onto it, the bed dipping as weight gave way. And out of the corner of her eye until he lay there, eyes closed, breathing heavily.

Both relief and dread rushed through Lily. She was about to turn and leave, but he held her hand and pulled her toward him, and she fell on his hard chest, lost in his blue eyes.

The mountain of questions in my mind built up and grew bigger. I collapsed on a nearby bench, the outside world dissolving as I cried. In my 3-year marriage, he only touched me once. I gave him my everything. Did he even remember?

Anxious for a hug, I took out my phone and dialed Mia. Once she answered, I dumped the whole thing: my fears, the dreams I had, and the life inside me.

Mia said, her voice calm and kind. "That is his child. He has to care. Who knows… this may make your marriage better. Maybe he will forget about that woman."

“Alright, I will tell him,” I stated, my voice final. “I will see this child born, no matter if he accepts it or not.” I ended the call and went home, tired but with my heart heavy with resolve.

Lewis sat in the meeting room, his expression calm and collected as the project head, James Warner, and his team presented their findings. Lewis remained silent, not uttering a single word, his gaze fixed intently on the presentation. Oliver, who had worked with Lewis for years, noticed his boss's demeanor and felt a sense of unease. He knew that a silent Lewis was often a sign of an impending storm. As the presentation concluded, James smiled, expecting approval from his boss. Without any comments or questions, Lewis's silence seemed almost palpable. James glanced at his team, and they all looked relieved. Over the past three years, Lewis had become even more stringent and cold in his expectations. As Lewis stood up to leave, the room fell into an awkward silence. Everyone was confused, unsure of what to make of Lewis's reaction. Oliver hesitated for a moment before speaking up softly, "Sir, didn't you have any comments?"Lewis's expression remained unreadable as he turned to Oliver,

The meeting commenced with a sense of anticipation and importance. The conference room was filled with key stakeholders from both Hamilton Corp. and Smith & Co. At the helm of Smith & Co. was Evelyn Smith, a sharp and astute CEO, whose father, Arthur Smith, had been a close friend of Edward's father. The familiarity between the two families was evident as Edward and Evelyn exchanged warm smiles, reminiscing about their school days.Lily, who had been preparing for this meeting for weeks, stood confidently at the presentation screen, ready to lead the discussion. Edward sat beside her, observing with a keen eye, his presence a testament to his role as her superior."Good morning, everyone," Lily began, her voice clear and professional. "Today, we'll be discussing the details of our proposed partnership and the specifics of the project. I'll walk you through the key points and highlights."Evelyn nodded, her eyes fixed on Lily's presentation. "Please proceed, Lily. We're eager to hear y

Three years had passed, and Lauren, or Lorry as Lily affectionately called her, had grown into a precocious and endearing child. The kitchen, once a place of solitary contemplation for Lily, was now filled with laughter and the clatter of tiny utensils. On this particular morning, Lily stood by the stove, her eyes fixed on her little daughter, who sat on a miniature chair, looking like a tiny queen in her kingdom."Hey Lorry , what do you want for breakfast, sweetie?" Lily asked, her voice warm with affection. Lorry looked up at her mother with big, round eyes that sparkled with a maturity beyond her years. She pondered the question for a moment, her small hands clasped together in her lap."Whatever you like, Mommy," Lorry replied, her voice soft but firm. "Whatever you make, I like." Lily's heart swelled with love and a tinge of nostalgia as she heard the words. There was something about Lorry’s response that reminded her of Lewis, Lorry’s father. The way she phrased her words, th

Standing in the doorway was the same stranger who had intervened in the altercation with Jackson at the restaurant. He smiled warmly, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "I've been trying to call you, but I guess you already left. You dropped your purse at the restaurant, so I thought I'd return it to you."Mia's eyes widened as she took in the familiar purse in his hand. "Oh, thank you so much!" she exclaimed, her voice a little breathless.Just then, her mother appeared behind her. "Mia, who's at the door?" she asked, and then her eyes landed on the stranger. "Oh, thank you so much for returning our daughter's purse. We really appreciate it."The stranger nodded graciously. "No problem at all. I'm Mike Nolan, by the way."Mia's mother smiled. "Thank you, Mike. I'm Karen, and this is my husband, John."Mike shook hands with John, who seemed to approve of him. "Thanks for stepping in back there," John said. "We owe you one."Mike waved it off. "No need to thank me. Just glad everything

Edward leaned down to the baby's crib, his face inches from hers. He gently touched her soft cheeks, and the baby turned her head away, scrunching up her face. Richard watched the exchange and chuckled. "Looks like you're not her type, Edward."Edward stood up, a confident smile spreading across his face. "Impossible. Who wouldn't love a handsome guy like me? She's just a little confused, being new to the world and all. But mark my words, when she grows up, she'll be begging to go out with me."Richard raised an eyebrow, amused. "Begging to go out with you? I think she'll lose interest in boys altogether after seeing you."Edward shot Richard a mock-offended look, but before he could respond, Lily's voice drifted from the bed. "What are you two talking about? My daughter's love life, perhaps? I think I'll have to keep her away from both of you."Richard chuckled, and Edward rushed to Lily's side. "No, no, Lily, don't say that. We've gone through so much for her already. Besides, Richa

As they helped Lily into the car, she winced in pain, her face contorted in discomfort. Edward quickly got into the driver's seat, while Richard took the passenger seat. Edward put the car in gear and hit the accelerator, racing towards the hospital. But as they hit the evening traffic, Edward's speed had to slow down. Lily's screams of pain grew louder, and Richard turned around to try and comfort her. "Hang in there, Lily. We're almost there," he said, his voice soothing. But Edward's navigation skills were questionable, and Richard soon realized they were going the wrong way. "Edward, what are you doing? This isn't the way to the hospital!" Richard exclaimed, frustration creeping into his voice."I thought this was the shortcut," Edward replied defensively, his eyes fixed on the road."Shortcut? We're going to be lucky if we make it to the hospital before the baby is born," Richard retorted, his tone rising.Lily's screams grew louder, and she gripped the seat tightly, her knuckles
