Scott was tired of having the same conversation with his grandfather over and over again for what felt like years now. Every time the man had a chance to bring up the topic again, Scott knew a long lecture was coming his way.

This time was no different. He had just arrived from a trip to London where he had met potential future business partners. As soon as he landed, he went straight to NYU for a meeting with the President, the Provost, and other members of the academic board to decide what would be the direction of his donations, which was finally concluded now.

After that, he had an interview with an academic magazine and meetings scheduled for the entire afternoon. He was just having some time off to have lunch before diving back into his tasks.

He barely had time to think of his brief encounter with Florence. He didn’t tell her about his visit since it was very short notice and he wouldn’t have time to see her anyway.

Also, with his business trip happening so soon after their date, Scott found it hard to have some free time to call her or stay in touch, not to mention their time difference.

They texted a few times, but nothing too deep or meaningful. Just simple exchanges like ‘how was your day?’ or ‘what did you eat?’.

Surprisingly, he had to admit to himself that he was missing her. He had never felt this way about any woman he dated before.

“Grandpa, we already talked about this,” he said over the phone while taking a bite of his meatball sandwich. His assistant bought it for him knowing that he had to be given something for him to eat a meal. Otherwise, he’d probably just skip lunch. “Why do you insist on wanting to see me married?” He rolled his eyes and could imagine his grandfather doing the same thing on the other side.

“Because I don’t have much time to wait and I won’t let my company fall in the wrong hands. You already know that, so why do you always ask?” Noah complained.

“Well, I’m already the CEO. So, can’t I just continue to be it? Without having an heir?” Scott insisted, even though he already knew the answer to that.

“Our legacy is too big to have someone without kids to take over. It would probably fall in the hands of the shareholders eventually, and we know they don’t care about our name. They only care about money.”

“It'd be better than having Eric and Pearl take over. If you give my cousin the company, you know his wife will stain our name even more. Her family has ties everywhere in the underworld. Is that what you want for Lee Pharmaceuticals?” he tried to appeal to Noah’s good sense. But the man was stubborn like a mule.

“No, that’s why I want you to marry soon. So I can give the company to you. My lawyer is pissing me off by asking me to authenticate my will, and I want to retire soon. So do me this one favor and just find someone to marry. Or should I do it myself? I know a lot of trusting men that have beautiful daughters. I could introduce you.”

Scott rolled his eyes again, finishing his sandwich, and throwing the wrapping paper in the trash bin. To be honest, it’d actually be better to just have his grandfather arrange him with someone. He never believed in marriages anyway. So, finding someone to agree to marry him for business purposes didn’t sound so bad.

But why couldn’t he just agree to it? Now, more than ever, he was constantly seeing Florence’s sweet face in front of him every time his grandfather mentioned the word ‘marriage’. And it made no sense. Why would he think about her? He didn’t want to marry anyone, but he also never thought about liking someone the way he was starting to like her.

Could she really make him change his mind? He could see himself being happy around her, even if they were still in the ‘getting to know each other’ phase.

“I will give you a couple of weeks, Scott. That’s all I can offer you,” Noah continued since he didn’t get a reply after a couple of minutes. “If you don’t find someone to marry, I’ll set you up on some dates and will have my will authenticated. Or I’ll just pass it along to Eric. You know that’s not what I want either, but I see no other options. I won’t pass my company to someone that doesn’t carry the Lee name.”

Scott wanted to scream out of frustration. Why did his grandfather have to be so stubborn? He knew that Scott was more than capable of taking over the company. He was the CEO after all. For years now.

If Eric put his hands on the company, Pearl would ruin it for good. Her family was no joke. They were involved with money laundering and Scott suspected that they even had ties to the mafia.

Was that really what Noah would let happen to their family legacy? It would die anyway if Eric were to inherit it.

So, it’d be better if someone that knew the business inherited it, even without an heir. But it wouldn’t work. He had tried every single time to convince Noah of what was the best choice, but the man never listened to him.

And Scott was not willing to let anything bad happen to his family legacy. Or his grandfather’s company. Lee Pharmaceuticals was his life too. He couldn’t stand seeing it fall to the ground. They worked really hard to make it what it was.

“Fine,” he huffed.

“Fine?” Noah repeated, and Scott couldn’t ignore the hint of excitement in his tone. “What exactly did you agree with?”

“If you want me to marry someone, then I will. You can wait for news from me pretty soon. Eric won’t have our company. Not if I can do anything about it,” he concluded, surprising even himself.

As the words came out of his mouth, the plan was already being elaborated in his mind. He usually wasn’t a man that made decisions under pressure or out of impulse. And he was also surprised to realize that was not the case.

Scott wasn’t just saying it to get his grandfather out of his hair. He truly said that thinking about a plan. A plan he didn’t know if it was going to work, but he would do everything in his power to make sure it would.

He couldn’t think about anyone else to marry, so he needed to find something to offer Florence, something she’d never refuse.

It’d have to be her. He couldn’t think of anyone else. He didn’t want anyone else.

  • Falling for my Fake Husband   Chapter 50: Epilogue

The last preparations for Ethan’s first birthday party were full steam ahead. This time, Florence didn’t even have the chance to say that she wanted something simple and intimate as she requested the first time she married Scott.Noah wouldn’t accept ‘no’ for an answer. She tried to reason with him a couple of times, but the man ended up winning the argument, saying that Ethan’s life was enough reason to have a huge celebration. Florence couldn’t argue with that. The man had a point after all.About her second wedding with Scott, Noah didn’t get too much in the way of the preparations, and even though she still wanted to go with a similar celebration to the first one, she also accepted that the list of guests was a bit bigger this time.Of course, no one understood why they were marrying again. For the people outside of the family, it might have just seemed like rich people doing rich stuff. She didn’t mind. As to their family, she and Scott decided to share the real reason behind it.

  • Falling for my Fake Husband   Chapter 49: The Beginning of the Rest of Our Lives

Two entire months passed before Ethan was finally released from the NICU by doctor’s orders. Only then his body was able to carry on by itself without the need for breathing machines or an incubator.During that period, Florence and Scott visited the baby at the hospital every single day, but since he was being observed, they couldn’t get too close. Watching him through glass was enough to calm their hearts, however, it wasn’t nearly close to what they really wanted. The need to hold Ethan in their arms was all they could think about for weeks, and even though they tried their hardest to remain positive, it wasn’t a very good moment for either of them. The entire family was heartbroken, still collecting the pieces that this whole incident left behind. Some good news came out of it though. Pearl had been arrested, and the waiter’s testimony, alongside other evidence that Phil managed to collect, was enough to put her behind bars for a long time. She did try to pay bail to get out, but

  • Falling for my Fake Husband   Chapter 48: Moments of Fear

Those were the worst hours of Scott’s life. Without a question. He lost count of the minutes he stayed in that hallway, waiting for news alongside Isabella, Liam, and Noah.He had never felt so helpless and incompetent. Not being able to do anything was agonizing. By every second, Scott honestly started to think that things had gone wrong. That Florence and the baby wouldn’t survive. And when he was almost giving up, a light seemed to appear at the end of the tunnel. A nurse came toward them, looking extremely exhausted, and Scott didn’t even wait to get up and shoot her a question before she even had the chance to say something.“How was it? Are they ok?”The nurse looked at the others who had just joined them and turned her eyes back to Scott.“The surgery was a success and the mother is out of risk,” she started, and Scott fell back on his chair, feeling like the weight of the world had been taken off of his shoulders. His legs, however, felt heavier than ever and he couldn’t remain

  • Falling for my Fake Husband   Chapter 47: Hardest Decision

The next couple of hours were the definition of hell to Scott. He didn’t wait to see what would happen to Pearl, but Luke came to him with all the information a while later whilst Scott was still waiting for news about Florence. She had been taken to the emergency room, but he couldn’t come inside with her. And it never hurt so badly to wait for news like now.Luke told him that Pearl was taken to the police station, and he’d have to come by to give his statement as a witness whenever he could. Scott would definitely do such a thing, and hopefully Florence as well, as soon as she was out of risk and able to speak again. While he waited, Noah, Isabella, and Liam also arrived at the hospital, and Scott could barely lift his head to look at them, especially Florence’s parents. He had already made them a promise that he’d protect their daughter no matter what, and again he had failed them.Scott couldn’t stand the shame and guilt he felt when Isabella came toward him and put her arms aroun

  • Falling for my Fake Husband   Chapter 46: A Thread of Hope

Scott should have known that something bad would happen again. No matter how hard he tried to convince himself and Florence that everything was ok now, deep down he knew it wasn’t true.Pearl had been too quiet, and it scared the hell out of him. Florence tried to tell him exactly that, but Scott didn’t want her to stress over it, not during her pregnancy. She had been through a lot already, more than he would ever forgive himself for, and all he wanted now was for Florence to have a normal and calm pregnancy. But when his phone rang that afternoon and he saw Luke’s name on the screen, Scott simply knew something was wrong. He didn’t know why; he had no reason to think that something was off, but his heart somehow knew. And when he answered the call with his trembling fingers, Scott couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Luke told him that he had gone out to get Florence some Mexican food, but when he returned, she wasn’t at the apartment anymore.Luke had asked around, but no one in th

  • Falling for my Fake Husband   Chapter 45: Ghosts That Come Back to Haunt You

Surprisingly, after that awful meeting, neither Pearl nor Eric seemed to cross their paths again. For a couple of months, Florence could barely sleep without feeling like she was being watched and followed everywhere. But after a while, Scott convinced her that everything was fine now and she could finally relax and enjoy her pregnancy. It took her a long time, but eventually, Florence managed to do just that. And it felt incredible. Motherhood suited her. Of course, she wouldn’t really feel what it was like to be a mother per se until the baby was born, but with all of the preparations, she could already anticipate the joy she’d feel when the moment finally arrived. She could tell the same thing about Scott. That he’d be an amazing father was more than clear to her. But Florence couldn’t help being surprised by him every once in a while. He was everything she ever dreamed a perfect husband would be like. He accompanied her to her ultrasounds, doctor’s appointments, baby shopping miss
